The Official Mitt Romney Thread II

Wall Street loves both sides of the aisle, and they love Wall Street, except when one needs to make a speech about the Fat Cats that, um, give him money as well.....:cwink:

I personally don't understand why Wall Street is not giving more cash this time around to the Democrats(I know they really gave alot to them in 2008). The stock market has practically doubled under Obama's watch, while as you say the Dems have been more then lenient on wall street reform, you put both of those together you think for the most part you would go out of your way to help then get re-elected(with the possible exception of some candidates say like Elizabeth Warren)

I was wrong when I said Romney's tax returns are a boring snoozefest of a distraction with nothing new to offer. I actually find this note worthy.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/...n-Oil-Investments-Loom-During-Visit-To-Israel

Mitt Romney invested in State-owned Iranian oil supply companies, and pumped money into the economy of Israel’s enemy, Iran, in 2006, even after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for the annihilation of Israel in 2005.

Basically the story is Mitt's returns show he invested $1.5 million in Chinese and Russian oil companies that supply Iran. Ya know, while saying he'll be tougher on China, and that Russia is our #1 geo-political foe. Then goes on to sell the stocks the day before the first republican debate. If this gets blown up, it could be another big blow to Romney. Him selling the stocks right before the first debate shows he knew it would be a problem if questioned on it, and he needed to be able to deny having the stocks.

Now I am a bit more curious about the 10 other years. I didn't think they could show anything we didn't already expect (paying less taxes, off shore accounts, ect), but now I'm seeing the potential.

That's a very simplistic way to look at it. You ever think when you start telling everybody but old white hetrosexual males that you are not American, your values aren't American, you are not patriotic, etc that you are just driving people to the other side and it has absolutely nothing to do with free handouts.

Exactly. And the sad thing? Many who align themselves with the party don't even realize that a serious shift has taken place.

It's like placing a frog in a pot of lukewarm water on top of the stove. If you gradually turn the heat up, he will continue to "accept it" and get "accustomed to it" until he's fried. Few with clear vision would willingly embrace a lot of the GOP's modern philosophy on the Human Race today.

If they lose this election, expect a lot of people to jump ship and create a new party or at least do a complete overhaul on what exists. And that would be a great thing.

Both parties are run by psychopathic charlatans who hates math.

Republicans provide ******** solutions to the math problems.

Democrats try to ******** the math problems away into the land of unicorns, fairies and talking burritos.

He's lost. It's over. The only way he wins now is people voting for anyone but Obama on principle alone.

He'd have to deliver like the greatest debate smackdown of all time at this point.

I think with all the gaffes and all the crazy ****, he could still win due to people just not wanting Obama back for four more years and all the ones that hated him getting the job from the get go.

Obama's campaign also lacks the enthusiasm and momentum it had in 2008.

But at this rate... he'll win, easily.

I think it's his idea of a joke to be completely fair. The guy has worse groaners than my Dad.

If it was a joke and i was his campaign manager i would smack him for that dumb ****. Bad Mittens!

Haha true. But I think his campaign manager (Stuart Stevens) is half the problem.

Maybe he is still shocked that Gary Johnson is polling at 6% in the latest Reason-Rupe Poll, and is saying dumber stuff than usual, cause he can't understand how a Libertarian is polling above 3%...

Or maybe he is shocked that the Johnson campaign issued a Anti-Trust Lawsuit against the Commission on Presidential Debates, Republican National Committee, and Democratic National Committee, to force his way into the Debates.

The Libertarian and Green party usually try file lawsuits to get into the debates with no luck

Yes, but I believe this is the first time it's a Anti-Trust Lawsuit using the Sherman Act of 1890 and it isn't just the CPD. It's CPD, RNC, and DNC being sued.

He's supposed to be good at debates. A candidate normally doesn't have to hit a home run, just appear presidential, stand his ground, and deliver a few good ideas on key issues. Romney's key problems are going to be fact checkers post debate, and staying on topic, IMO. Plenty of early voting going on, and Obama leading by 5+ points in states Romney HAS to win however leaves Romney in a far from typical position. Obama's campaign has already made an ad in battleground states combing his 47% comment with his tax returns to add fuel to the fire.

The Obama staff has been playing it smart though. Several staff members have been on various shows hyping up Romney's debate skills, putting more pressure on him to do well.

Personally I don't think it was a joke because the comment concerned his wife having her life threatened. I may not like Romney politically, but I doubt he'd joke about that, as he strike me as a family first type in his personal life. I'm not sure if he believes planes should be able to roll windows down or not, but I'm sure he face palmed backstage after he said it after the realisation sunk in, or someone told him. The stupidity of it was Palin-esque, but it won't stick, we'll all have forgotten about it 2 days from now.

I don't know. Romney is a lot of things, but I wouldn't call him stupid (definitely nowhere near Palin levels). If it's not a joke, it could be one of those weird things candidates blurt out, out of exhaustion, like when Obama talked about 57 states. They get by on 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night, so they have a lot of brain-farts. Not really defending him, because he has said a lot of stupid things, but they've been mostly stupid for their nakedly opportunistic and unsympathetic nature (like jumping all over the Cairo embassy tweet and the "47%") rather than intellectually stupid like Palin was infamous for.

Meh. In any event, another bad news day for Romney is a good day for America.

Christ, I just looked at Nate Silver's nowcast (www.fivethirtyeight.com). I know the guy gets some criticism for being left-leaning, but his nowcast (if election were held today) prediction for Romney is just..... brutal. According to his numbers, if the election were held today Romney would have just a 4.3% chance of winning. His Nov 6 forecast is a bit more forgiving, giving Romney 22.3% chance, but still.

And why the hell was Romney still orange in his 60 Minutes interview? Didn't he have a chance to wash off the fake-tan after his carefully staged Univision interview?

I will give Romney a pass on this as well, in the big picture it's not the President's job to design airplanes

I don't think he was joking but just rambling on a train of thought. He's said far more offensive things. Besides, this is a guy who strapped his dog to the roof of a car on a family vacation, so he may not have the best common sense.
