Square Enix on Dragon Quest IX for smartphones, Dragon Quest X offline version
Published 19 hours ago. 32 comments.

Yuu Miyake wants to tell MMORPG's stories to overseas players.

DQIX-X_10-09-18.jpg

The topics of a smartphone version of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies and an offline version of Dragon Quest X came up during the “Chou Dragon Quest X TV: Fall no Bunkasai 10-Hour Special 2018” held today in Japan.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies for Smartphones

According to Dragon Quest series executive producer Yuu Miyake, the Tag Mode functionality of the DS version of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, which was one of the main reasons it was such a big hit, has become a bottleneck in the production of a smartphone version, as it is difficult to reproduce on smartphones. However, convenient tools have recently been introduced that give hope to the development of a smartphone version, with Miyake saying, “I’m starting to see us being able to do it.”

Be that as it may, completely reproducing the Tag Mode functionality of the DS version would seemingly be difficult, as Miyake said that “it wouldn’t be in the same form as DS or 3DS.” As for whether the prospect of offering a similar experience has come up, Miyake said, “I’m starting to see us being able to do something.” Miyake also mentioned that with the Dragon Quest series lineup on smartphones being as substantial as it is, he would like Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies to join.

Offline Version of MMORPG Dragon Quest X

Former Dragon Quest X producer Yosuke Saito, who stepped down from the position on August 25, said, “Even within the traditional Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest X is packed with excellent stories,” then added, “Talk of an offline version often comes up, and I don’t think the possibility is zero. It would be great if we could introduce it to fans to play somewhere.”

Miyake followed up on Saito, explaining that “Overseas, Dragon Quest X has not been released” and “3DS was also not as prevalent overseas, and there are people going from Dragon Quest VIII to XI.” Miyake showed a strong desire to develop an offline version of the game, saying, “Since Dragon Quest X has tons of rich stories, I would like to make something that can tell those stories, including to players overseas.”

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is currently available for DS worldwide, while Dragon Quest X is available for PlayStation 4, Switch, Wii U, 3DS, and PC in Japan.

ESRB rates Corpse Party: Blood Drive for Switch
Published 3 hours ago. 17 comments.
2014-released survival horror game adding a new platform?

Corpse-Party-Blood-Drive-Switch-Rating_10-12-18.jpg

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has rated Corpse Party: Blood Drive for Switch.

The Team GrisGris and 5pb.-developed survival horror game was first released for PS Vita in July 2014 in Japan, followed by October 2015 in North America and Europe. An iOS and Android version was released worldwide in February 2017.

Here is the ESRB’s description of the game:

This is a survival-horror adventure game in which players help students escape a haunted school. From an over-head perspective, players traverse environments, avoid monsters, and interact with various objects and characters. Cutscenes sometimes depict various acts of violence: a man stabbing himself with a knife; a character crucified and burned. Violence is also described in text (e.g., “She continued to hack at me, again and again. . . From behind me, I could hear the sound of blood gushing into the air from the gaping hole above my neck”). Blood is frequently depicted near corpses and when characters are injured. During the course of the game, a handful of sequences depict characters whose nude bodies are partially obscured by lights, steam, and/or other body parts. Some sequences are accompanied by suggestive dialogue (e.g.,“Not that I’d expect you to be too turned on by these raisins o’mine,” “Hey, stop jiggling them,” “And where do you think you’re touching?! Those are my boobs!”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in dialogue.

Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix for Switch launches in November in the west
Published 16 hours ago. 0 comments.
Tactical RPG tells a new story in the Mercenaries Saga worldview.

Mercenaries-Wings-The-False-Phoenix_10-22-18.jpg

Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix will launch for Switch via the Nintendo eShop in November in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, publisher Circle Entertainment announced.

The game first launched for Switch in Japan on September 27, followed by PlayStation 4 on October 10. Circle Entertainment has not announced a western release of the PlayStation 4 version.

Here is an overview of the game, via Circle Entertainment:

This new release in the Mercenaries series will offer familiar gameplay but a separate story and worldview from the Mercenaries Saga trilogy recently seen in Mercenaries Saga Chronicles on Nintendo Switch. It is not an orthodox sequel, nor will players need to have played the original trilogy to fully enjoy the game.

A tactical RPG in the finest traditions of the genre, Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix requires you to carefully utilize varied units and their abilities. Set Leaders to change the flow of battle, level up your units, change classes, manage equipment and make the key choices that will be the difference between victory and defeat!

This all takes place against the backdrop of a storyline revolving around war, betrayal and magical forces! We’ll reveal more about the story ahead of release.

CAPCOM BEAT 'EM UP BUNDLE To Get New Updates In November
Captain Commando has heard all of the feedback from the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle community, and the game will be getting some radical updates in November.Read more

CAPCOMBEATEMUPBanner-October24.jpg
Bringing together a bunch of classic Capcom arcade titles from the 80s and 90s, Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle is the perfect game to relive those endless afternoons at the Arcade; when kids wouldn't think twice about spending their entire allowance on arcade tokens.

Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle features Armored Warriors, Battle Circuit, Captain Commando, Final Fight, Knights of the Round, The Kings of Dragons, and Warriors Fate as part of its radical line-up of classic arcade titles; all of which can be played with friends either locally or online.

Today, we get new information regarding Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle, which is scheduled to be getting a bodacious update in November—as Capcom has listened to player's feedback and will be fixing some stuff and adding a few extras.

First things first, Capcom will be adding some classic-looking Screen Filters that will make the games look more like they did on the old CRT screens of the arcade. A new Screen Size will also be added, which will give players the option to display the screen in its original size.

The other option that Capcom is adding to the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle is On or OFF toggle for Mid-session joining, which will either prevent or allow other players from joining an already active lobby. What Capcom failed to do, though, isto give us an official date of release for this update, but it will be available at one point in November.
