Just wondering, has Disney's marketing made a fatal flaw yet again and isn't involved with a finale this week? Or is it line up with a couple of shows?

What got me thinking about this is the fact that FF2 comes out weeks after this film yet, I'm pretty sure it has the SV and SN finales, and definitely has the Heroes finale.

So, I was wondering if the marketing department finally became smart and put it with something... and it's beyond easy seeing as to how Disney owns ABC.

Well, Im not sure I understand what your saying but there will be some tv spots tonight with Survivor.

All I know is this is the last week- more or less- for regular TV watching for many people due to the finales.

My friend, this past weekend, is a huge POTC fan and didn't even know the third film was coming out this month! That's why I'm saying, Disney needs to step their game up- because I'm betting my friend isn't the only one clueless about it.

Internet- it's all there, we know how to access this stuff... but, general audience? If it's nothing big this week, they'll need to pull a Zodiac (week of the movie, there was litterally no escaping the TV spot- it was everywhere, must have seen it five times in the span of an hour at least).

Ok I love the jar of dirt lol.
So its purpose is that Davy Jones can't step on land and well dirt is land and if Jack was to put that on his ship Davy couldn't step on it, which means Jack is safe.
Tilda women said so the witch type lady lol I can't remeber her name right lol.

But I like his ''I got a jar of dirt guess whats in side it''

Disney's been running POTC3 ads since March, when it premiered the trailer during the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars. This past week, I've seen ads for the movie during Lost and Grey's Anatomy, which are two of their highest rated shows. I think we can assume they're running ads on their other big shows as well.

Disney also owns ABC Family and the Disney Channel to plug the movie on (which I believe they have) as well, plus their myspace POTC3 page currently has more 71,000 *friends*.

I've seen billboards in NJ, a giant Captain Jack billboard has been up in Times Square for several weeks now, as well as smaller ads all around the city.

The trailer also ran with Spiderman 3 last weekend...considering how much money that's made so far, it's safe to say lots of people know there's a Pirates movie out this month.

They're having events at both theme parks--the premiere is being held in Disneyland, with tickets going for $1500 apiece that are already sold out. Disney World is also holding Pirates-themed events the week of the movie's release, with several events already sold out.

Say what you want about Disney, but they know how to market their movies. :cwink:

Sweet man

Jack didn't didn't know Norrington took it out, remember when the jar breaks he says where's the thump thump. Davy Jones can't step on land so if Davy tries to get the heart back he can't because it's on land. Tia says "Davy Jones can't step on land, so you wll take land with you".

My point more or less is the jar of dirt really does nothing outside of provide one of the funniest momments in the film I guess, I get what it does, but it really is put to no use

and Tempest

FF2 doesn't come out a week after Pirates, I believe it comes out the 15th

Knocked up would be the big release the week following Pirates

PotC: AWE is the cover story of this weeks issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine .There aren't a lot of spoilers in the story lots of budget talk though. Also all kinds of other stories and an interview with Johnny Depp. Here is the link to the story

Hey u is it a good thing that spiderman 3 dropped 60 persent its second week. Its 60 million but it was against Delta Farce. Should be interesting to see how much farther it drops when Shrek 3 comes out.

What the heck does this post have to do with the topic at hand?

I think to determine weather it is a good thing or not you must first figure out the value of SM3 to yourself, then i relation to Pirates, and then you have to ask yourself if the B.O. really impacts your desicion making in terms of which movie you think is better or not

me: I loved SM3, want there to be more, so I don't think it is a good think it dropped almost 60 percent, I love Pirates more than Spider-man, and I suppose it is a cock battle between the two for b.o. number, but I don't really care

to be honest the only reason I b.o. watch is cause I love it when movies get in franchises, and franchises only come out of b.o.

and most movies come in at around a 70 percent drop from their opening weekend come their 3rd weekend, so even if it only gets like 30-40 million, it won't be anything out of the ordinary

Spider-man 3 got a lot of bad word of mouth..probably why it dropped so much.

Its a shame..but they'll still make another one.

Pirates 3 has the problem of some people still reeling from 2 being dissapointing (NOT ME). As well as a release not as wide as Spider-man 3.

It still should be interesting though.

I think pirates 3 will be all around the better film. More then likely it will only make 97-100 million opening weekend. Due to shrek 3 is why i say this. Still it should be an amazing memorial day weekend for movies. I would see a spiderman 4 and even even more so Pirates a shrek 4
