I have to respectfully dissagree Hunter for i think Johnnys Captain Jack was better then in DMC but not as good as COTBP ofcourse. But i think Jack was great and Barbossa the Pirate Lord scene was my 5 the favorite scene in the trilogy.
After The Moonlight March, The Jack vs Barbossa Sword Fight, The Three Way Sword Fight with Norrington, Sparrow and Turner and The Maelstrom Scene.

No worries, I just thought Jack was pretty poor in AWE and even ramblingly annoying.

He was suppose to ramble he was playing delleria and was seeing mini sparrow on oppisite shoulders.
Its 2nd best Pirates film but thats my opinion and not yours and thats ok too.

I watched it for the second time last night, and it was a bit better than I thought when I saw it in theaters. If I still have one gripe though, it's the endless trading and double crosses you mentioned. Even after the second viewing, I still couldn't keep track of things.

Call me crazy, but I prefer 2 and 3 over Black Pearl. 9/10.

Crazy.

Even i don't agree with that. Sure each film has a fun moment for me but Pirates 1 has the same feeling Raiders Of The Lost Arc or Predator 1 had. One was the better film even though i enjoyed the sequels.

Have you ever heard people complain that the sequels (Dead Man's Chest and At World's End) tried too hard to be "the thinking man's swash bucklers"? I've heard that a few times.

Not thinking man's per se, but it really tried to be this "epic" LOTR type movie, but it just had a was a lot of sloppy storytelling, (i.e., the malestorm battle be like the Battle of Endor and not just 2 ships fighting)

Heard many complaints and its the fact that the perfect movie was in Pirates 1. As much as i injoyed the sequels while i had my pop corn and soda at the cinema i think they should have not tried to connect sequels to a movie where no sequel was ment. They should have done the Indiana Jones trilogy non connecting idea and still bring back barbossa but have differant adventures. You could have gotten in Jones and The Love Triangle but had them going after differant treasure. You know pirate stuff.
My one complaint is that Dickens pirates was not used as much.

That Love Triangle was the most forced awful attempt that the writers tried to pass off as drama. And where did it go in AWE nowhere, quickly resolved in one scene between Will and Elizabeth. It shouldn't have been introduced in DMC.

Yeah it was not well written as in Stars Wars 4,5, and 6 and in The Lord Of The Rinsg movies. The Arwen, Aragorn and Eowyn was done well by Peter and Fran.
They should have never done it that way. Just back stab and chain jack to the mast and don't do the love triangle. But i think there are far worser written scripts and films out there then the pirates sequels.
I enjoyed them but agree they may have tried a bit too hard at times when it was fine how it was.

Yeah, didn't the compass point to Jack and Elizabeth when they each held it? It was some sort of mystical object, that pointed to what you desired most. So in DMC it points to each other, and it goes nowhere again in AWE.

The best adjective for these 2 movies was "needless", a lot of needless storylines. Kept it shorter and concise, instead of trying to force drama.

Like i said they made it complicated and they didn't need the compass stuff to show Elizabeth digged Jack its apparent by watching them around each other. Liz just didn't want Jack for he had ever women in port and Will seemed the safest bet.

I finally saw this tonight, very disappointing, it starts out pretty well with the Shanghai sequence and then it's downhill when we meet the multiple Jack's,

This is where AWE lost me as well...

from here it's endless double crosses and plot threads just thrown in, Jack muttering and talking to himself and no real concentrated story or character work, it's over crowded and overlong.

Indeed. The multiple double crosses made the film very difficult to follow...

The only saving grace is Keira Knightley's performance and the maelstrom battle, which while good is not in the top 5 best action sequences this year IMO.

Poor 5/10

That final battle was okay but would've been epic had they gotten the rest of the pirates and royal fleet involved...as opposed to just watching from the sidelines. :csad:

But having said that, I ask you...

Does anyone else feel the series would've been more successful had they gone the Indiana Jones route and have 3 seperate adventures per movie as opposed to trying to link them into one 'coherent' trilogy?

I would not complain that the sequels tried to be the "thinking man's swashbucklers," but rather tried to be epic and meaningful a la LOTR, but as Hunter said had no plot threads or character development to follow per se, with story threads upon story threads with no structure or pay off added in and characters just for the heck of it with an unsatisfying resolution. At the end of the day the sequels were devoid of the charms of the first movie and the third had almost no humor, whatsoever.

But congrats to Disney DVD sales. I figured this or Transformers would be the big sellers of the year. Still doesn't mean I have to have enjoyed the movies, though.

See the difference is, Transformers didn't try and be this deep, epic, cinema masterpiece. Just an almost leave your brain at the door. I enjoyed it for what it was. It doesn't try and bullsh't you.

Pirates as you said tried to be epic and meaningful.

I found him more lazy in part 2...well, we can all agree than Jack was mystical, mysterious, epic, incredible, unexpectable and funny in COTBP, his glorious moment

It should have ended with the neat little scene of Will and Elizabeth on the beach and then him sailing off to do his ten years, but no, more pointless Sparrow follows and then the even more pointless "10 years later" stuff, after the credits.

The only saving grace is Keira Knightley's performance and the maelstrom battle, which while good is not in the top 5 best action sequences this year IMO.

Poor 5/10

My thoughts verbatim.

Thats what i thaught too having a differant cursed treasure of immortality with new cursed foes. You could still have included Davy Jones and The Dutchman.

I loved all 3 movies.

I did too. I can see why people would gripe about the 3rd film, but I find them all ridiculously fun. I bought the AWE dvd when I was in Disney World last week (right after I went on the ride!) and I got a free watch. :woot:
