Shrek Takes Over Internationally

Shrek the Third finished in first place internationally this weekend with estimated box office of $46 million from 3,693 screens in 36 markets. DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures International's "Shrek" began a gradual foreign rollout May 17 and is hitting its stride this month by adding 36 new openings to its overseas run by June 30. The third film has grossed $107 million overseas so far and $404 million worldwide.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which had been on top overseas for the previous three weekends, finished second in its fourth weekend at 17,500 screens in 103 territories with estimated box office of $32.6 million. The overseas gross for "At World's End" is $547 million, making it the 10th most popular overseas release ever. Its $821 million worldwide total ranks it as the 16th-biggest hit ever on a global basis.

At third overall was Warner Bros. International's Ocean's Thirteen, which in its second weekend pulled an estimated $26.3 million from about 5,000 screens in 38 markets, lifting its overseas total to $67 million and $136.8 million worldwide.

20th Century Fox International/Marvel Enterprises' Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which opened first domestically, landed at No. 4 internationally. The sequel grossed an estimated $25.4 million from 3,292 screens in 32 markets. Its early worldwide tally stands at $82.8 million.

Rounding out the top five for the weekend was Sony's Spider-Man 3, which raised its overseas gross to $543.9 million on the strength of a $3.1 million weekend at 4,300 screens in 77 territories. Spidey's international total is up to $868.2 million, putting it at No. 12 on the all-time worldwide list.

i wonder if pirates could hit 700 mil foreign gross? if that is possible, then despite the low domestic gross, it could still reach a billion WW.
i'll see it again somewhere this week. just can't get enough of pirates. at home i just keep watching dmc and cobp.

Only 2 movies have made over $700 million worldwide and that's Titanic and ROTK. AWE went from a foreign gross of 72 million last week to a 32 million this week. At $547 million now, it looks like it's probably going to tap out around $580 million?

I'm not the best person to ask about progression, however, I think AWE is open already in all of their markets which is kinda an indication of the 57% drop in the foreign market. Based on that drop even a conservative 50% drop next weekend will give a foreign gross of $16 million.

I still say AWE would have made more money if it would have been released after Harry Potter 5. Harry POtter 5 will make a killing when it has dmc slot form last year. My guess is Transformers as well will pay off form July as well.

Pirates 4 title already annouced?
