So was this movie any good? I didn't really like the second one, but it had great effects. Will this one be any different?

At World's End, is the best movie of 2007.

* I havn't seen Transformers yet, I'll try to catch it this week/weekend.

AWE is too my favorite movie of the year so far but Live Free And Die Hard is very close.
I however have not seen Transformers or Harry POtter 5 yet.

I don't mean to be rude, but WHY was this a good movie? Not one person has been able to tell me why they liked it so much.

The problem with the Pirates franchise is that Will Turner should be the hero, but Jack is so popular he got pushed to the front. Imagine Star Wars, but Lucas decided to make Han Solo the main character instead of Luke.
Um no all three are the main force of the films really but Jack is Han Solo, Elizabeth is Lea, and Will is Luke but everyone likes Han aka Jack Sparrow better, and Barbossa/Davy Jones are the Vader like villain only they are not the mainc character as Vader was in all 6 Star Wars films.

So it may be more about Will aka Luke but everyone like Jack aka Han Solo better.

Well its a simple answer as the fans like the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film. They are fun summer movies that take us back to pirate movies poeple liked as a kid. I myself like all three films for i was amazed by the special effects of the characters and the acting by Rush and Jack were fun throught the series.
For me AWE i liked it because it made DMC i think alot better cause the story caps really a two part one story. But Maelstrom sequence should be enough reasons.
But raising of the colors, the multipal jack sequence, the pirate lord meetings with captian teague and the sand bar meeting and exchance. I mean you can take your pick. You put all that and Barbossa and you have a great film.

The sequels managed to make Will semi-interesting, which he wasn't at all in the original, same with Elizabeth (his story with his father and her interaction with Jack in DMC blew away their love story for the sake of a love story in Black Pearl), Davy Jones is by far the best character from these movies, Zimmer's scores for the sequels are much more epic and exciting than his so-so score for Black Pearl, the action is far more visually stunning...

This movie did really waste Chow Yun Fat though, but overall a very entertaining ride and what summer blockbusters are all about.

Transformers is a horrendous piece of **** btw. The film is wasted on a stupid dorky guy falls in love with hot girl that's dating dumb jock story that you can see on any Disney channel movie of the week, the Transformers are horrendously underdeveloped and underused, and the film is bombarded with excessive and out of place "comic relief" that isn't even funny and turns Transformers into precisely what the film is loaded with...a bad joke.

I've been a Transformers fan since I was a kid, I didn't care for Curse of the Black Pearl, but either Pirates sequel blows Transformers, the so-called "movie of the summer" out of the water.

Well, because you didn't ask. :oldrazz:

I liked Pirates 3 because it was great full-out adventure movie that for once, isn't based on a comic book (it seems like that's all we have these days) and was a blast to watch. I'm a big Disney fan, so I also love the references to the POTC ride.

I loved watching Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush try to out-ham each other for the entire movie. Will and Elizabeth were everything that Anakin and Padme should have been in the Star Wars prequels, which led to what now has to be one of the best wedding scenes I've ever seen.

The movie has a great soundtrack. I loved the Keith Richards cameo. The maelstrom battle was fantastic. It seemed like every actor in the movie, no matter how small their part was, was having a blast playing these roles and it was fun to watch them.

Yes, it was a little too long, and the Calypso story was too confusing, but it's totally outweighed everything I liked about the movie.

It's my favorite movie of the summer so far, I've seen it 3 times.

I enjoyed the story mostly, there's so many cool characters, the action is great, special effects are awesome, this film is at the top of it's class technically. They're swashbuckling adventure films that deliver as far as I'm concerned. The best adventure films since Indiana Jones(I missed out on the whole Lord of the rings craze) and my personal favorite Pirate films(although I haven't seen many). Better than Treasure Island, Hook, Sinbad, etc imo.

Just a good well made trilogy. The 70s was Star Wars, the 80s was Back To The Future, the 90s was, well they didn't have any good trilogies that I can think of, but this decade it was Pirates of the Caribbean.

Completely agree on this part. And Depp and Rush are not only two of my favorite actors but also played two of the best Pirates ever.

Yeah true that. I thought it was the worste movie of all time, I would of fallen asleep if it wasn't for my friend spilling his soda pop on me.

I understand not liking it, but thinking it's the worst film of all time? Have you ever seen an Uwe Boll film, or Plan 9? You must not watch a lot of movies.

I really hear people say it brings back the simplicity and fun of the Erroyl Flynn/Captain Blood pirate days.

And I think the first one did. But the sequels lost that magic and by the third it was overblown and tried to be clever with all the "double crosses" when it was just annoying and it tried to be LOTR-epic for most of the movie and it was just bland. There was no emotion when Knightley got a St. Crispin's Day speech with "Hoist the colors." All the build up had no pay off. NOrrington and Governor Swann from the first movie wree lazily written out with bad pay offs from the second.

But the worst was all the major events seemed to have no meaning. The subplot of Davy Jones/Calypso that got so much time (and was far more interesting than Turner/Swann who were as bland as vanilla in this one) just ends randomly. She is freed and does NOTHING. She just becomes a special effect. They get the Pirate Lords on their side and make a pirate fleet who does....NOTHING. The bad guys bring their entire British armada who do...NOTHING. Chow Yun-Fat does nothing but spout cliches. The EITC villain has a past with Jack that is never developed or focused on. Will is going to save his father by using the such-and-such knife and doesn't.

It was just bad storytelling that failed ot deliver on almost everything. And again it tried so hard to be epic it lost that Saturday matinee feeling of simple fun that the first had. And it seemed to destroy everything the first built. At the end Elizabeth and Will are no longer together, Barboassa is still alive, Jack still does not have the freedom of the Black Pearl as Barbossa has stolen it, yet again and great supporting characters (Norrington and Sao-Feng being the biggest ones) were killed off for no reason.

Disappointing, is the word, really.

Here I was happily forgetting this movie existed and then some one had to bump it.

Spot on .

If you can look past the pizzaz, flimsy story telling and desperation to be something it isn't (epic) you're left with two great characters (one of which is now overused and a bit tired) and not much else.

AWE is also my favorite of the year.

Me to, I have not seen one other film yet which has topped it, and its the film I have seen most this year its great.

But looking forward to Die Hard, I am Legend and Transformers as well but I think Pirates might be my favoruite film which was out this year.

Played the game on the Wii last night so fun!

I think what everyone's problem with part 2 and 3 (seeing as how everyone mainly loved part 1 the best) was how drastically they changed it. In part 1 we get this down to earth pirates film with great new characters we don't see too often. And then in part 2 we get way too much comedy, an unneccessary cannibal island sequence (though it did give Sparrow a reason for having to look for a brand new crew when Day Jones needed the 99 souls) and a huge step up from the first film (now we've got supernatural sea people, a guy with a squid for a head, and a gigantic sea monster).

While none of that bothered me much, I still enjoyed the film. People complain about how hard it was to follow and stuff like that and how the plot kept changing...well that didn't bother me much at all. IMO it made me like it more because nothing went as planned. Too many times in movies the heroes plans always go according to plan, but in this one every original plan had to be improvised.

Part 3 started off good, but then bored me once they reached the Locker. I think the movie could've done without the hallucination scenes. They just seemed really unneccessary, or they could've at least made them less.....Looney Tunesy. Davy Jones was down graded heavily (IMO) from this completely badass villain who almost outshined Barbossa, into this complete wimp (they really did it for me when they had Jones standing in the bucket of water.....and I just CRINGED when he did the Eastwood brow thing).

Cutler Beckett remained the same, and I hated the whole Calypso becoming the 50 ft woman thing. They could've done something a bit more.....better. I loved the backstabbing going on. People may complain about that the most, but I just loved it. It really shows that they must be quiet the team if they can backstab and trade each other's lives, and then go right back to having their backs in a hot second. I liked how even though Jack killed Barbossa, Barbossa didn't take up half the movie holding any grudges. Still, they could've toned down the comedy a bit, but other than that (like the rest) the maelstrom scene did it for me. One of the greatest things I've seen.

So yeah, I can see why everyone hails COTBP as the best one because it wasn't so over the top and the plot was much easier to follow, but really I like them all. I just hope Part 4 (hopefully we get a part 4) will kinda go back to those roots of part 1, seeing as how we have no more Davy Jones fish crew. The comedy can stay, just tone it down, and make Jack more like the Jack from part 1 (if that makes any sense).

At World's End, is the best movie of 2007.

AWE is also my favorite of the year.

Same here. :woot:

AWE is my favorite movie of the year so far...

Aye! And it will probably stay my favourite for the rest of the year.
