What else has McKeever done to warrant all the loyalty? All I remember was his Inhumans Tsunami series which, while a decent read, was vaguely disappointing because it was basically just another teen drama comic, as opposed to Jenkins' brilliant mini.

for all intents and purposes, McKeever sunk the Mystique series. but i was still entertained, so i can't be hard on him. still wish that Brian K Vaughan was still around though.

How was SENTINAL? I know it's in 2 digests but I never gave it a gander; assumed it was basically a "boy and his robot" sort of thing, like in countless anime and manga.

Sentinal was one of those gamble things where it seems interesting concept wise, but could totally suck. It wasnt one of those things. The best thing I could compare it to is the Mary Jane series and by that i mean it kicks ass. God I loved that series. Spidey would always show up when you least expected it.

His original Sentinel series got positive reviews. Same with his Mary Jane series. And his OGN "Waiting Place" is supposed to be great.

He's never gotten any big work, but that's why he won the Eisner for Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition and Robert Kirkman didnt:)

I dont think it is. In fact, I remember Sean Mckeever making a joke about how people thought that that's what it was in another comic book he wrote (I cant remember which comic book he did that joke in now).

It recieved mostly positive reviews and has a fanbase similar to Runaways, although smaller, I guess.

Yep, "The Waiting Place" is definitely worth checking out.

A teen drama that Warren Ellis recommends?

I never read Mystique but Sentinel and Mary Jane are fun. :)

Ah, I imagine the praise comes from his MJ credit, then. I've heard people rave about it.

Im sure Ive read other works by him. My first, I think, was his fill-in for Spider-Girl. He also did an issue or two of Spider-Man's Tangled Web.

I need to check Waiting Place. Last Angry Man also recommended it to me a while ago. So those two Sentinel digests will likely have to wait:(

I'm not really a fan of teen drama myself. McKeever writes it with such skill that it can be enjoyable, there aren't many writers like that. :)

I might give SENTINAL a gander then. I can get the whole series for about $15 with the digests, which is usually about the price of one 6 issue TPB. Not a bad deal.

As always, that RUNAWAYS preview looks cool. Glad to see Cloak & Dagger getting play this year, although Cloak seems to be getting more of it. Maybe this is making up for Dagger getting more focus on that MARVEL KNIGHTS series?

That Fin Fang Four issue looks friggin' hilarious... :D :D :D

I'm going to pick that one up.

:)

You wont be disappointed. McKeever is one of the few that can write teen drama and make it enjoyable for any age.

I think that my expectations were so low for Pat Lee's art on Spider-Man that it actually looks alright to me.

I honestly don't think instantly throwing a new title like FNSM into an event like THE OTHER is a hot idea. And in a way, Spider-Man is much like the X-Men in one way; a great character who just trogs along between one "earth shattering mega-event" every few years to another. I am so, so, SO tired of events with Spider-Man, especially ones that involve mystical hogwash. JMS reminds me of Bendis; an otherwise critically acclaimed writer who fans flame against because of one or two story aspects, and instead of, oh, moving the hell on, he insists on "convincing" the reader that those aspects they don't like are ones that they SHOULD with constant overbearing hammering. Granted, JMS isn't alone here and this is something Marvel as a company wants, but he set the ball rolling like Bendy on HOM.

When, oh WHEN will Marvel learn that heavy-handedly trying to FORCE readers to like something rarely works? It was that problem that cost them so dearly with the Clone Saga. They could have corrected it the moment it started tanking. Instead it plodded at least a year longer than it should have in that attempt to change minds, or something. It failed. MISERABLY. Usually, when you fall down a flight of stairs, you try to hold the guardrail the next time. But what do I know?

The very reason titles like GRAVITY and INVINCIBLE are so refreshing is because they are EXACTLY what core Spider-titles have rarely been for YEARS now, which used to be Spidey's domain.

I've been lucky enough to have been buying INVINCIBLE since issue #1... and I've always maintained that INVIVCIBLE is simply what Spider-Man was in the 60's with a harder, modern-day edge to it.

:)

At least, unlike with HoM, nobody told PAD that he had to participate in this or he'd get replaced. He seemed quite happy to do it so why complain? Those who don't like it can always pick up the book after the event is over.

You're never gonna please everyone, it's best not to even try. This longtime Spidey fan is quite happy with everything he's done on the book, particularly the totem stuff.

I don't think they're trying to change anyone's mind. And I don't understand you comparing this to the clone saga either, when did the Morlun story tank? When it won an Eisner award perhaps?

Wait, what do you mean forced like HoM? Are you talking about writers of various monthly titles?

I thought I read somewhere that while PAD was interested in the other, marvel made it clear that if he didn't write it someone else would.

Nope, he came to replace Waid but it was his decision to participate to the crossover.

True, he said that much in his FBR interview. Or possibly some other interview.

Besides JMS and PAD are friends so I doubt any kind of forcing is necessary there.
