The Official PS4 Thread - Part 6

The problem arises when there are features neither company wants to add. Like CD / MP3 support. However, if sales continue to go the way they are, Microsoft might make that move, and force Sony's hand.

I would consider dropping the Kinect listening to customers, since customers were saying "**** your Kinect" by buying PS4s.

Got injustice for 8.50 or somethin like that last night on psn. :)
It was the Ultimate Edition. I couldn't pass up a deal like that

Yea I snagged the same deal haha. I own (and honestly prefer the game) on the 360, but at that price I couldnt pass it up. Plus I have a few buddies who play the game on the PS4. I was bummed to see that the damn net code for that game is still rubbish tho.

Honestly, I hope fans keep *****ing. That's what gets results.

No it doest. Lack of money is what gets results. Companies don't care about how much you whine until your whining becomes you not buying their product. Almost 9 million PS4's have been sold without media play back support, Sony isn't worried about the lack of a feature that an absolute minority cares about. Thats partly why the system didnt release with it and why its taking so long for it to make its way to the system.

Yea and thats it, they weren't spending money on MS's console. If MS were at equal units sold with the PS4, they wouldn't of changed anything, regardless of how whiney the internet was. Thats truly how you get your voice heard by these large companies, don't spend money.

Yes it does. ***** about it long enough, and Microsoft which is trailing in sales, will implement it. Wait and see.

How do you think we get these features? The companies just one day shrug, and randomly add them?

It's all about competition, and consumer demand.

Wrong. You can whine and slam your fingers on your keyboard until they bleed, but if you continue to buy their products, a company won't change. MS made the changes they did to their system, not because people like you cried on an internet message board, but because people like you DIDNT purchase their product. Thats what forces change. Not your b****ing on the internet. Its your actions at retail.

As usual we disagree.

My *****ing on the internet reflects my actions. For all Microsoft knows, I don't buy an Xbone because I like books more than video games. Telling them why you're not buying it matters too.

Oh yea im not saying it doesnt. Theres a reason corporations like MS or Sony spend MILLIONS on focus groups and other forms of data collection. But, bottom line is the bottom line. MS saw that, 'oh s**t, we're losing to Sony by about 4 million units' something has to give. If everything was equal, MS wouldn't of dropped Kinect, they wouldn't of discounted the system and they wouldn't of made the changes they did, even if everyone on the internet was whining over said features.

Sony's in the position of playing "defense." They have the lead, so whatever they do they're going to do it to maintain that lead.......to maintain that competitive advantage.

perhaps they felt that adding 3D Blu-Ray was a big enough feature ( or a glaring enough omission on their part) that they felt compelled to release it now before MS does.

it would be interesting if MS hadn't announced 3D Blu-Ray for August, would Sony have come out and announced the 1.75 update?

again, it just felt so sudden and unexpected, especially since we just got another stability update last week.

who knows........we can only speculate.

if Sony doesn't add media support in their August update, it could very well be the situation again where MS announces for a future update and then Sony feels compelled to update the PS4 with that feature.

agreed. money talks. sales talk. the bottom line talks.

let's say MS continues its aggressive update policy and keeps adding new features/fixes to the X1 ( including media support ).

and let's say Sony continues to lag behind in updating the PS4 with said features, and let's say, it's a year from now.

Even though they may be a small segment, I'm sure there will be customers who've felt like they've been patient with Sony long enough. And now they see the X1 with all these new features that the PS4 lacks.

Perhaps that leads to an uptick in X1 sales, especially from PS4 owners who are now buying an X1. If that's enough to make Sony perk up and take notice, that scenario might spur them to start adding features to the PS4.

I think both companies are waiting to see who makes the first move as NEITHER company wants to add that feature. They truly, honestly do NOT want media playback. They want you to use their services for all your movie and music needs. Whoever adds it first, the other won't be far behind, id bet on it.

Assuming the MS hate has subsided by then, its very possible. But MS and the X1 in particular are still viewed negatively.

I think another reason is that both companies want you to hold on to your PS3/360 ( which do have better media playback ) as long as possible. so you can still buy more games for those consoles.

after all, one reason why I haven't sold my PS3 yet is because it is a better media console right now.

that plus there are still games coming out on the PS3......lol.

Is the X1 views negatively still? The system sold like double since dropping Kinect.. I don't think Gamers are too much on the long run. They tend to get over things quick.

I think there's still a general sense that the X1 is still slightly inferior to the PS4, hardware/performance wise. and thus multi-plat games will look and perform better on the PS4.

even if the actual difference is slight/negligible, the perception is still there, I believe.

someone (projectpat was that you?) in the halo collection thread that indeed the gaming community's seen enough bad in the xbone to remember it for a while, but... it is still selling so well you know? like you said it's sold double.

key word there is SLIGHT. and i heard advanced warfare is being amde on the ps4 to equate 100% with the xbone version so that nobody complains the way they did when ghosts came out.

I still come across anti Xbox One memes almost on a daily basis. The negativity is still very much alive.

I do think Spencer is helping though and as long as they dont have any major setbacks I think they'll be fine, but I do think it'll take some time.

Sony's latest PS4 update adds a feature we took for granted on the PS3.
    ... More

A feature id really like them to add is the ability to download and install those updates automatically. When a new X1 update comes out, if my system is in the stand by mode, it updates by itself. I dont have to do a single thing other than turn my system on.

I thought the PS4 already did this, but every time a new update has come out it always asks me to install it when I turn my system on.

isn't automatic update only available for PS+ users??

Ohhh maybe thats it. Well then thats cool, at least the feature is there. I just dont want to have to wait to install any update when I leave my console in standby. It should do everything for me. Ill be getting a full PS+ membership soon.

Actually its a free feature available for all. It used to be a Plus feature under the PS3 but that got changed shortly before the PS4 launched. You need to have it checked on in your settings and set up a time interval for your PS4 to turn on. You can view instructions on this at this link:

I almost hesitant to post this, because I know it'll just cause more bellyaching, but it looks like the PS4 could be getting media playback and DLNA, but not soon. But, as the article states, how reddit verified this employee and what his position actually is remains unclear.

http://www.lazygamer.net/general-news/no-ps4-dlna-until-2015/

The PlayStation 4 is still lagging behind the Xbox One when it comes to rudimentary features that you’d expect to be there. 3D blu-ray support is finally available for both consoles, which is nice for the 7 of you who care – but most of us are waiting for other features. Things like video playback, MP3 support and DLNA networking for streaming our totally legitimate, not-in-any-way-downloaded-from-the-internet home-videos-that-aren’t-TV-shows-and-movies. You might be waiting for a while.

According to yet another random person on the internet, The update to enable DLNA streaming for the PlayStation 4 will only be along next year. According to Reddit and its moderators, he’s a confirmed Sony employee – but that doesn’t really mean all that much. He could well be the janitor.
Still, he says you shouldn’t expect the DLNA update until at least 2015 – though we should be able to finally play media by the end of the year.
I’d say early 2015 for DLNA.
MP3 and Video Players by the Holiday season (MP3 maybe sooner)
He also says that the PlayStation mobile app will soon get a rather needed facelift.
There’s a redesign in the works. It should be more functional and modern (read: less cheesy blue boxes)
There’s a huge backlog of features that Sony wants to implement, he says, with Sony giving precedence to those that actually bring in income. I’d take this all with a a grain of salt or two, but with how long its taken just for Blu-Ray 3D support, I’d posit that 2015 for DLNA is well within the realms of probability.
All I want is the ability to pause downloads, to be honest. That shouldn’t be tricky to implement! What features would you like to see added to the PS4?
