Now is a service. Its highly unlikely to be a one time fee to stream a game anytime you want. Someone has to pay for the bandwith costs associated with that and that'll likely come into play with a recurring subscription fee to use the service

I can see why that would be difficult to implement though.

I think the biggest issue with this system is that all the game companies want a cut, and as a result, Sony doesn't see much money, hence the high prices. PS Now isn't going to move many consoles. Quite frankly, I think this will be a disaster.

This is one place where Nintendo could really clean house, since they have a huge library of their own games. They could actually charge a monthly fee for their entire catalogue. Unfortunately, their management of their own virtual console leaves a lot to be desired in every department.

Who here wouldn't pay ten bucks a month to play every Nintendo game from NES to Gamecube? At least for a while.

In theory PS Now is a good idea, but I don't think they're ready to execute it (well).

Haha, Nintendo would never give gamers access to their entire back catalog for a fee.

Or for any amount of money evidently. Still waiting on those ****ing gamecube games.

I was just browsing ebay, and came across a PS4 listing for $1.00 & free shipping.

I mean, the seller joined this year and has a 0% rating, but it otherwise seems legit. :o

Yea that's prob the only way I'd see a system like that work.

Yea its not going to catch on without some serious tweaks.

On a totally random note, I just found out that the PS4 controller has a built-in headphone jack (bear in mind that I don't yet own a PS4).

I have to say for all the drawbacks this console has so far, that is one great new feature (though the Wii U did it first). If only they had done that with the PS3.

Apparently you can buy a 25 dollar accessory that gives your Xbone controller a headphone jack.

I believe thats the goal.

I was curious to know if PS Now is always going to be a rental service?
Cool. That would interest me as there's a fair chance my next TV will be PS Now compatible.

Wait, what's on the DVD?

I know of people playing burned DVDs on the PS3, but those were just movies.

Ya that's what I want to know. If I burn some movies to a DVD will my PS4 play them? Seems like my only option since I can't stream it to the console. I don't have a blu-ray burner so that's why I want to know if it will play movies burned to DVD

I would think so, but I can't say for sure.

The lack of USB support is really annoying. Fans need to belly ache, or buy Xbone's because that's the only way to get Sony to change that.

Sony TVs should give some kind of optimisation to PS4s, unless they already do that is? Might get one of their 4K models in a few years time.

except, X1 doesn't support media files from USB sticks, either.

at least you can hook up an external HDD via USB.

It'd be pretty cool if my ear buds or sony stereo headphones worked in it. I don't know why, but my hesdsets dont work when I plug them in the jack. No sound whatsoever.

They shlu l.p. d have just left off the jack and implemented Bluetooth capability.

I know, but the idea is that Sony would then add that feature to make the PS4 more attractive.

Right now, there is very little distinction between the two.

Personally, I only chose the PS4 because it comes in white.

You may have a defective controller. Do you have a warranty?

Its really not considering Sony offers plenty of other options. Its also not a feature that widely used, which is one of the reasons Sony bypassed on implementing it from the start. The X1 doesnt offer USB support either and no one is buying a system because of USB support or the lack there of.

Thanks for that pointless remark. People don't buy a console for its ability to play DVD's either (at least not since the PS2), but it's a nice perk. USB support should be a given.

No MP3's, no MP4's... the list grows.

Why can this console not do basic things the PS3 can?

Because Sony wants to make money with their crappy services.

One step forward, two steps back with these consoles so far.

I'll say this.

As a PS4 owner ( since last Dec. ), if between now and XMAS, the X1 finally offers full USB support and media playback, and Sony still doesn't offer it and still doesn't give any indication as to when it will be added, that might just be enough to sway me to get an X1 this holiday season.

I wouldn't say their services are crap,I enjoy having Music Unlimited and just cause of being able to play music during any game and most apps on ps4 but worthy service with truly unlimited music and playlists across different devices

Not sure. If I ever need to really use the jack Ill contact Sony and see if I can't figure out why it doesn't work and if I can get the controller replaced. That's the only problem I've had from it. If they won't replace it then I can probably fix it myself. Might just be a loose connection or a short in a wire.

Well, I would recommend doing it sooner rather than later. I suppose if you never use it, then... that's up to you. But you should get what you paid for.

Actually, media functionality is an integral part of the PlayStation brand and has been for the last decade. PSP, PS Vita and the PS3 all had it from the start.

That's the thing, these perks add up.

Sony could have made this console so much more attractive. CD support, USB support (with all major formats) like the PS3...

Local PS1 and PS2 emulation...

I would have already bought one.

Yeah, No one is going to buy a PS4 to play CD's, or PS2 games (well, actually some might) or so they can watch their mp4 files on the big screen.

But add enough features like that, and it makes them edge out the competition, which has a nearly identical machine.

right.

all that stuff adds extra value. playing games is still the primary feature, but it certainly doesn't hurt to add additional features.

especially ones that were available on the PS3 and 360.

BC would be nice too, but I can live without that.

Ironically whoever had BC might have won this war (or at least would be leading the pack at this point).

Though given the wonky architecture of the PS3, that may not have even been an option, unless they wanted to design a new console only an idiot savant could work with.

PS Now will probably give gamers something new to laugh about for the next ten years.

I think Microsoft definitely regrets the decision though. It would have actually given them a leg up on Sony. Their attempts to emulate Xbox 360 games on the Xbone don't seem to be going well if the internet rumor mill is to be believed.
