Well, in fairness, MS probably never had a real chance of outselling Sony anywhere outside NA. I mean, they have a good presence in EU, sure, but NA has always been the real battleground between the two. Not to say WW numbers don't matter, but that's where it really counts to talk about for MS.

Like Tron said though, Halo is Halo.

Titanfall is an overpriced multiplayer mode for a brand new untested IP.

There is nothing else like it. It's the Mario of the Xbox.

That momentum doesn't last though. Microsoft got the jump on Sony last gen, and Sony ended up selling more.

True, they might not close the gap in a year, but a few years from now, it could be anyone's game.

Provided Halo 5 doesn't suck, that is.
thats bc Sony did much better in EU and of course Japan where MS had very little presence. The PS3 never overtook in NA. The X1 might here as the numbers are closer here but the PS4s numbers are nearly 3 times higher in EU and MS has no presence in Japan and even when they release its highly unlikely to change. For MS to end up selling more, I think they really need EU and thats a territory thats traditionally favored Sony. I dont think NA alone will help them close the gap at least not by a significant margin

It certainly had the support, promotion and marketing behind it like it were Halo. I think the point is alot was put into it and it had a TON of hype pre-release. It released and did okay, but it wasnt this titan that many were expecting it to be

Yes I was saying the same , the current momentum of the two is too far apart plus the unit lead PS4 already has for X1 to catch up on global units within a couple of years. After that longer term factors and effects can come into play. PS3 eventually caught up but it took the best part of a decade and despite delivering superior content for 4 years straight. Momentum takes a long time to reverse and a new console is the time for a sudden change so the previous gen leaders should never be complacent (but for some reason they often are).

Considering how absolutely horrible the Xbone's launch was, they've actually come a long way.

China could be a source, since it seems like MS is going after that opening market a lot more aggressively than Sony seems to be, but I don't know, too up in the air to matter at this point, I think.

I dont think they had an awful launch. Most of their issues that would have led to a horrible launch were corrected months before release date. It launched to much more positive and receptive arms than when it was initially revealed. The system was one of the fastest selling in gaming history. The launch couldnt have been that terrible

China has a huge (if actually proportionally tiny) fledgling middle class.

But you would think Sony would have an easier time making inroads, given their proximity.

There was talk of Nintendo creating a new console just for China. Don't know if that turned out to just talk.

And yet the PS4 is eating it alive. I doubt it's because of Knack and Killzone.

I think his point remains though. If it doesnt happen with Halo: MC Collection, people will say it'll definetly happen when Halo 5 drops or even TR as some seem to already be implying. It feels like it'll always be something
Halo 5 is the big one. The others I can's see being massive game-changers. The Gears game in the works is also being taken very seriously at MS with their new studio focusing just on that and it wont be out till probably 2016. I think it could also have an impact if it delivers. Otherwise it will just have to be brand new IPs and you need to get very lucky for those to go stellar. I don't think there are that many single player games that would move consoles in bulk on their own as people dont usually replay the same campaign for a few years straight. Some Rockstar, Nintendo and Bethesda games, and the likes of Uncharted but it isn't many given how many top single player multiplat games you will be able to play anyway (whatever you end up missing).

The PS4 is doing better. Fact. That doesnt mean the X1 had a horrible launch though. Selling more than 2 million units in your first month is nothing to scoff about.

China just approved 5 million Xbone units to come into the country, where I don't know if any Nintendo or Sony consoles have been approved.

Actually, being Japanese companies are probably hurting more than helping them get into China really. There's a lot of tension between the two countries now. It's been defused in the last few months, but it still remains, and it bleeds over to the social economics, too. Japanese car sells nose-dived, for instance, during the territory disputes in 2012. You would think that stuff would not matter so much for business, but in Asia, it seems to.

I guess I underestimated how closed those markets still are.

And anti-Japanese sentiment. Figured that didn't extend to electronics.

I was traveling in Asia around that time, and I got to watch NHK World in the hotels I stayed in. They covered a lot of the anti-Japanese riots that occured in China at the time, and many of the speakers at the riots singled out Japanese brands to boycott. So yeah, it does. It's less extreme at the moment, but there are things that are causing tensions, and it just seems to bleed over to every part of life. Not just China, South Korea is very similar if less extreme whenever disputes like that pop up.

Let's hope for Microsoft's sake that US-China relations stay the way they are.

5 million ain't half bad considering there are less than 10 million Xbones in the world.

the one way the X1 can distinguish itself, and take away market share, from the PS4 is if they continue to add new features to the X1 on a regular basis, and the PS4...........just stays relatively the same.

iow, besides exclusives, MS needs to give gamers a reason to WANT the X1 over the PS4, whether that's drawing in new customers or drawing them away from the PS4.

I'd say they've done that.

Short of making online free, or offering free crack with each console, I don't see what more they can do immediately.

I think we'll see a major increase in Xbone sales this holiday. They're going to close the gap by a few million units.

The Halo Collection alone is going to seriously move some consoles. And there's the bundles.

Sony has nothing going on this holiday.
i have been saying this for weeks... and weeks... and weeks..
so.......very "sobering" ( for MS ) article comparing the PS4/X1/Wii U sales for the last few months......

http://wallstcheatsheet.com/technol...sony-and-nintendo-keep-strong.html/?a=viewall

If those are the actual numbers, then that's not good for the X1. looks like the price cut hasn't given a significant boost yet. and the X1 is lagging in software sales, too.

we'll see if the numbers change during the Holidays. if the X1 can't do better numbers in both console and software sales ( especially with the new bundles, SO, Halo, and CoD ), then that's really not a good sign for them.
yet? if it were to happen at all wouldn't we have seen it in june?

and all that article told me is that sony is crushing the competition - but not necessarily that the competition are doing bad on their own.
yeah. that's what you'd expect.

However, if that somehow doesn't come to pass, then that's definitely not a good sign.

and even if the X1 did get the expected Holiday bounce, the question then becomes......does that momentum carry over into 2015? or will the bounce only be temporary?

guess we'll see........
the bounce won't be temporary and it will come to pass. there's no way it's not happening.
and you know what??

I think the X1 getting a nice boost, or even overtaking the PS4, for a few months is actually a good thing - competition wise.

that might give Sony the kick in the pants to not drag their feet on adding new features to the PS4.
well, again since i'm a hardcore ps gamer and a softcore fanboy... i don't ever want the xbone to overtake the ps4 or even come close lol

Well, Sony themselves are kind of stumped by the PS4 sales, and are worried that it might slump.

I think with the price drop, the new features, and Halo 5 in 2015, Microsoft will do quite well.

Halo 5 alone might sell a few million Xbones.

Sony really doesn't seem to be doing anything for the holiday. Complacency, I guess.
again, i've been saying this for weeks... and weeks... and weeks...
yeah.......it does feel like they're getting complacent.

that's why I said healthy competition is good.

let's see the full extent of the PS4 2.0 update this fall.

and I'm sure Destiny will give a nice boost to both consoles this Sept. ( but probably favor the PS4 more ).
i feel like sony's just lucky and sooner or later things may go back to the ps3 days... it baffles me how popular the ps4 is already
Im not sure favor so much as they want to walk away from MS's shadow. I think they want to distance themselves so they arent simply seen as a MS company in many ways that I feel Insomniac has done since going MP. You also have to factor Activision in here who is the one making the deals with Sony. It might be a way to placate them since they already have MS in their pockets with CoD. By going to the opposition and making this partnership for promotion and content geared towards them, Activision wins out as it puts them in a good position with both Sony and MS
i forgot what i was going to say here
Yes. And praying I don't get one of those jet engine fans.
jet engine fans? what's this?
People been saying that since the launch. First it was Titanfall that was going to completely dominate the sales it didn't. Then it was the price cut that was going to give them the advantage it didn't. I'm not saying the Halo Collection won't but I think Microsoft is still underestimating Sony to some extent or maybe more so of Microsoft fans.

Also they have Little Big Planet 3 coming out that actually has quite a following.
it does but it is not AAA and it is, quite simply, NOTHING to compete with halo.
That momentum doesn't last though. Microsoft got the jump on Sony last gen, and Sony ended up selling more.

sony pretty much tied, they didn't sell more

Halo really is up there with Mario, Zelda and Sonic (before... you know).

Sony really could use a franchise like it.
i'm telling you man, it was tekken.

it's probably uncharted now, but that's started last generation, while tekken was born on the playstation.
Let's hope for Microsoft's sake that US-China relations stay the way they are.

5 million ain't half bad considering there are less than 10 million Xbones in the world.

I don't understand...

jet engine fans? what's this?

A number of PS4's have been plagued by fan issues. Ranging from fans simply being occasionally overly loud, to literally sounding like jet engines.

Here is one video (skip to 2:45).

[YT]9yMsqnDCbXs[/YT]

There is a claim going around that some Foxconn employees sabotaged a huge batch of PS4's, by putting lead in the thermal paste. Though it's a fairly common problem, apparently (though not to the degree shown in the video).

I've been super paranoid about consoles since I got two bad Wii U's in a row.

it does but it is not AAA and it is, quite simply, NOTHING to compete with halo.

But the Halo Collection possibly. LBP2 sold 3.2 million units. So it's not small fries. Yes Halo 4 sold 6.5 million. So yes it was more but not like GTA numbers or Skyrim.

I think the collection will do well, but it's not "new" so I don't know if it will take over sales.

Though I do agree MS has turned around quite a bit, and are reminding me of the days I admired them during the Original X-Box era. I will get an X1 possibly, but right now PS has more exclusives that I want. Halo is just not enough for me.

I'll definitely pick up the collection. Though I do wish they had included Reach.

whoa, I couldn't hear it that well in the video but I could tell that if I was in the living room with that Ps4 it would be bothersome. However, I don't think the destiny bundled Ps4s will give you that problem.

LBP2 sold 3.2 million (where'd you get those numbers?) and Halo 4 from what I can collect sold 9 million, that's 3x the amount of LBP man. Look I love LBP but it is not a killer app like Halo. AND, don't forget, those sony dumbasses allowed for a Ps3 port of the game as well. Which means:

1. it is not a true new gen game if the Ps3 version can do everything the Ps4 version will; hell we might as well just call the Ps4 version the remastered/definitive edition coming out at the same time as the last gen version

2. It won't REALLY help push Ps4 sales this christmas the way you and are I conversing about, since it is not 100% exclusive.

that's another thing. the halo collection on the other hand, IS 100% exclusive to xbone.

And to continue on with our discussion, I know the halo collection is not new, but it is halo. In my opinion, microsoft is releasing this because they KNOW their fanbase knows halo=xbox.

And that brings me to another point I was saying in the microsoft forum - is this what microsoft is going to do every time there is a new xbox? Remake or remaster previous halos? When the 360, the second xbox was out, they remade Halo Combat Evolved. Now we have the xbone, the third xbox, and there's a remastering of the halo 1 remake, a remake of halo 2 (complete remake right? not just HD remaster?), and a remastering of halo 3 & 4.

So when we have the Xbox Two, is microsoft at that point going to come out with the "mega halo" or "legendary" collection with halo 1-6 super remastered for the NEXT generation of video games?!

I'll definitely pick up the collection. Though I do wish they had included Reach.
Yeah I get why they excluded it to stay with Master Chief titles but they could have called the Collection something else. :csad: Reach is just as much a part of my Halo experience last gen as any other title.

I think his point remains though. If it doesnt happen with Halo: MC Collection, people will say it'll definetly happen when Halo 5 drops or even TR as some seem to already be implying. It feels like it'll always be something
Those other 2 aren't comparable to a potential-fulfilling Halo 5 whatever people say. Nothing that we yet know about is.
