Got a PS4 yesterday. Bought the Arkham bundle and also got Elder Scrolls Online and Evil Within. ****ing updates, though. I've spent more time waiting for updates and game data to download and install than I thought I ever would. Still, hopefully once all that's done I can enjoy some kick ass titles. Just saw there's a Nobunaga's Ambition coming to PS4 and I'm all over that!

Get used to it. At least the downloads are faster this gen than on the PS4. Im not sure if its a default setting but you should opt into automatic updates. Be sure to keep your PS4 in Rest Mode in order to take advantage of that. Also if you just want to jump in and play your games; you can unless its a MP component. Updates arent required for gameplay unless you are connecting to the network. There are times when I get a game and cant wait, so I'll play the unpatched version first and let it update when I log off

I'll keep that in mind. I let everything update over night so this morning I was able to hop on and play, but my girlfriend got ahold of Elder Scrolls and haven't been able to touch my PS4 since lol. She's into that pretty hard.

Do you have to leave the PS4 in Rest mode? Usually I let my PS3 update overnight and if I'm trying to download a huge game file, it turns on at like 4am and downloads and installs so that by the time I go to play the next day it's all ready.

I guess part of me is just worried about the system overheating or something. I know the PS4 is built almost like a computer, but I still worry about leaving in on too long.

if that's the case it wouldn't make sense for them to have changeable hard drives.

It absolutely does. If they didn't have it, it would really sway a lot of people away as this is an expected feature by this generation. However, they are definitely trying to get the people who don't do their research to spend more. It
's a fantastic business model.

Yes you do. If the thing is off, then it cant turn itself on. The PS3 never actually "shut off". Only the original fat systems had a power switch, which allowed you to manually shut it off. By defualt the PS3 was always in standby or "rest mode"

I turn mine off when I'm not at home and usually when I sleep.

I hardly ever keep it in rest mode. There's no sense in letting it draw power when I'm not using it.

I've been keeping mine on rest mode more lately. Usually I'd turn it off during the week since I'd have little time to play it anyways with work since I have to play video games almost all day at work anyways ha.

Then, towards the end of the week when I jump into my games at home it'll be on rest mode . I also like the suspend feature, I'm playing DMC4 remaster a lot right now and since it doesn't save checkpoints I can just put it in rest suspended and not worry about losing my progress.

When Im actively playing a game (like now with Batman), I'll put it in Rest mode, but when Im not touching my PS4, it goes off

Do you completely shut down your PC every day? Because keeping that on draws more power than your PS4

I only have a laptop and yes it stays off. I only turn it on when I need to do something that requires a laptop which is rare. I haven't turned it on in over 2 months. I do all my web browsing on my tablet and my phone.

I'll send you a friend request on the PS4 later tonight. I'll let you know I'm X Knight from the Hype.

Cool. Only games I have right now are ESO, Evil Within and Arkham Knight, but I'll be getting SW Battlefront and Black Ops III when they're released.

It absolutely does not make sense. You're saying it is a coveted feature and then you're saying sony is preying on owners that don't even know about it. The Ps4 is selling like hotcakes as it is, I don't think this "business model" is going to work. If anything, those people who don't have a Ps4 who are planning to are just more than likely to purchase the 1TB model instead of the 500GB model where it's available. that much isn't really clear to me.

congratulations on getting a Ps4. did you get the 1TB model or the 500GB? i'm not aware if it's out yet or not

I think you are missing the point of what they are doing with that kind of advertisement. Tech people, like me, who will eventually run out of space will replace my hard drive. Why? Because I know how to, I know that I can and I know that it'll be a few hundred dollars cheaper than buying a new PS4.

There are a lot of people that see the shiny new things, especially non-tech people who have no clue how to run the thing. They'll be the first to buy something like this in lieu of a simple upgrade. Not saying the majority or even close will, but it can be an easy sell to groups of people. Source: I work in tech.

i understand where you're comingbfrom, but I still don't think it's good advertisement from them on any counts.

What do you mean by good thoiugh? Do you mean good as in fair to the consumer, or good as in a business decision?
