They are calling it the end to the story arc...ala Phoenix and Magneto's war agaisnt humans. Pyro's arc just started in X2...it isn't near completion like Magneto or Jean.

When we didnt know much about X-Men 3 I can remember everyone saying they wanted Pyro to die...I dont think they would kill him because he is the future of this franchise...if it does continue..
