Hey Guys (ladies, if any?)
I've seen 'Avengers' two times now, with only one day apart. For me, it was even better the 2'nd time around... For starters, I rated the movie an 8 - I would probably be hesitant to give it an 8.5, if possible in the poll.
I'll make this rather short, seeing how it's pretty difficult to write things about this flick which hasn't already been said, literally a 1000 times before, by now
I will say this much though. Three weeks back, I wasn't hyped for 'Avengers'. I thought it would fail. Seemed impossible to balance all the characters and do things justice. But as you've all read, it succeeds in great fashion! I saw it at midnight three days ago, with a friend. Than again last night, with my brothers and our lady company.
There are many great scenes in this film. The Action is all so cool! But believe it or not. My favorite parts of the film, were actually when the team was together talking, or at least two-on-two chit-chat. Do I have a favorite scene? Actually, I do. And it's not what you might expect. I know I'm not allowed to spoil without tags, so I won't spoil specific lines (but Oh man are they cool!) I just wanna talk about something that I'm pretty sure hasn't been the center of attention yet.
The scene I'm talking about is brilliantly written. Brilliantly edited, and brilliantly builds up tension, right before the flying hangar action set-piece ensues! All of Whedons writing shines here, along with the great acting of our main leads. The whole team is together, talking. You'll notice how nicely the camera is sort of floating around between the character - all in one take - as they talk and discusses the situation. Each have great lines and ping-pong. You know that **** is about to hit the fan, because of how the music compliments the situation, dialog, leading to tension. You're not in doubt that big things are about to happen. Not only because of a flying hangar that's about to get ****ed, but because of the tension between our heroes! It's slowly "boiling", and it's all one great build-up, coming together! Stuff like Bruce Banner getting pretty damn pissed, and irritatingly emotional while explaining about loneliness and suicide attempts are all spoken off. Some secrets an truths about Banner being there, comes to see the light of day, and it's all bad_ass! I'm telling ya. ESPECIALLY the dialog spoken between Tony & Steve is so full of tension, people! The two are right up in each others faces. There is no_love here! Steve's facial expressions (no mask on) tells the audience (and Tony) that he's about one milli-second from laying a punch on Tony! Great, angry, right in your face acting from Chris Evans here! Downey Jr. delivers as well. It's just Chris Evans face that truly got to me right there. LOVED it! Tony says one line to Steve Rogers that would piss any one off in that situation! (such cool writing from Whedon! Think it's my favorite line in the film) It follows right after Cap-A asks what Tony is, when not wearing the armor (like seen in trailers. But it's differently spoken by Downey, which fits the situation better) It's really cool, guys! Let me put it this way. If Something did not draw their attention to suit up for other abrupt reasons, these two would've gotten it on in a much more MEAN way, then say Iron Man vs. Thor, which I'm sure you've all seen the fight clip to
I'll leave it at that. Scenes like the one described above, is what boosts 'Avengers' to being something a bit more then just your standard blockbuster pop-corn flick. It definitely has heart. The film is really really good! It succeeds in all the places where it so miserably could have failed. You guys have a strong winner on your hands people!
X-Men First Class is still the best Marvel film for me, personally. But 'Avengers' is right after, biting its ass!
