I wasn't around for the 80s one, only read it in trade. I'm sure it wasn't any better, but I grew up knowing about it so I guess I just sort of accepted it.

Of course, but having lived through another one, I now realize that I was a real **** when making fun of those old folks still whining about 1985. Granted, at some point you gotta get over it, but I see their point now.

Honestly, I'm pretty much done with the Big 2.

I'll never get over losing Stephanie Brown, a good Tim Drake, or Wally West. :o

My reading list from the Big 2 is steadily dropping, too. Most of my interest from either of the 2 comes from the Marvel movies now. And Daredevil, because Mark ****ing Waid.

At some point, I it becomes pretty necessary. I don't disagree with DC for doing it, they just did it in the messiest and stupidest way possible.
No it isnt. Marvel has existed fine for over 70 years without one

They've been doing soft resets that whole time, though. Tony Stark was injured in the Middle East now, they tried Spider-Man Chapter One (which people ignore now, but they still tried it.)

I don't think Marvel can survive another 70 years of soft resets. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it happening.

edit: I forgot about their Season One graphic novels. Are those 616 canon?

Until they had their golden boy shatter the multiverses about a week and a half ago. Now all these other variations of characters are going to eventually be running around the 616.

Well, that's a big enough problem that it could start to effect the stuff you do give a s**t about.

Are the Marvel Season One books in canon? Or are they just their own little thing?

Well I only read All New X-men and Uncanny X-men and both deal with alternate versions of other characters plucked into this timeline, so its nothing new

No they aren't meant to be

Basically Wolverine (in his infinite wisdom) decided to stop Ultron by going back and stabbing Hank Pym to death and for some god forsaken reason, Sue Storm of all people, went along with him. Then Wolvie had a change of heart, went back to stop himself from killing Pym and killed the other Wolverine. All of this messing with the space time continuum led to things breaking so now Angela from the Spawn comics is running around, 616 Galactus is trying to eat the Ultimate Universe and soon others are going to start appearing, like Miguel O' Hara in Superior Spider-Man.

Oh and Biff Tannen now rules Hill Valley with an iron fist....kinda like Dr. Doom but without all the melodrama. :o

Those are called retcons, they will keep doing those, DC is known for their reboots every 25 years, while Marvel is known for keeping their continuity from as far as 1939 with retcons now and then to update the characters.

Marvel shouldn't use DC's strategy, they're Basically winning that war in the comics sales, their aproach of making the comics stories closer to the movies also helps their strategy, if they keep doing the films the bond way then at some point they can work as "background" for new readers to know what is going on in the comics right now

If the MU can survive Heroes Reborn and Age of Apocalypse, they can survive a few multiverse characters popping up in 616.

Were the Captain Britain Corps and Exiles at all involved in Age of Ultron? Because that kind of thing sounds like it's right in their wheelhouse.

Soft reset/retcon. tomato/tomato.

Point is, with all of these retcons happening for some characters and not others, things are bound to get uneven eventually. And the only solution to that is retconning other characters. It's cleaner to just do them all at once.

I like Marvel's approach better, but I'm not confident in its sustainability.

This isn't just "a few". They did like 3 or 4 double splash pages of every freaking alternate universe out there.

You know damn well that as soon as Marvel needs a sales boost, we're going to get some kind of Avengers/2099 crossover war or Avengers/MC2 or Avengers/Zombies, so on and so forth.

Nope. AoU starred Wolverine and Wolverine. With a guest appearance by Sue Storm.

I'm not sure how or if it would work...but I'd buy it....if only for Miguel

I'll buy pretty much anything 2099 as long as it's done well and doesn't rewrite the original 2099 like... well... pretty much every "2099" mini, oneshot, or guest appearance since the original ended.

Hey so my little cousin(about 12-ish) wants to get into the comics after seeing Avengers a while back, he's now interested in Thor, Captain America and Iron Man. I was told that Thor: God of Thunder could already provide the jumping point and he could just go straight in. As for the others, could he just read from Captain America vol.7, and Iron Man vol.5 without any problems of past continuity?

All I can tell you is that Thor: God of Thunder is a perfect jumping on point. I don't read the other two so sorry.

heh I've been confused with everything since NOW started lol
