The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 5

I was picking up some random back issues of X-men at my local comic shop and I ran across Uncanny X-men #399. I was surprised to see that Angel still had blue skin at that point. When did Angel go back to his original appearance (normal looking skin)?

Somewhere around UX-Men 410-420.

He lost the blue in the final issue of the Hope arc in Uncanny X-Men 412 (the first arc by Chuck Austen).

So I've recently realized how much I like the Kingpin as a villain. I've read most things from 2000 on, but I stuck with only X-Men and Spider-Man (mostly) in the 90s. I'd like to read more Kingpin-centric stories, but many of the stories involving him are more about him pulling strings and not really being a part of it.

Daredevil, Spider-Man, Punisher, Captain America.... any book. If you had to create a prominent reading list for the Kingpin through the 90s that was more than just cameos, what stories would you recommend including? I know he was in an arc of X-Men just prior to Operation Zero Tolerance, and I know he was in the Last Rites story in Daredevil 296-300. Beyond that I know very little. So what would you recommend?

In regards to The Punisher you should checkout the even issue final days arc just stop reading when Frank escapes from prison because everything after that is awful.

I've always been curious about that arc. I used to have the one with the brown paper cover and remember liking the interior, but I don't recall anything about it now. I'll have to get it.

I want to find a list of every issue the Sentry appeared in. Google has failed me. Can my fellow Hypesters help me with it?

Marvel Chronology Project is a huge help for me on things like this. If you've never used it, open it in two windows. On the 'S' page (which I linked for you) hit minimize all and scroll down to Sentry. On the second window hit the little key button at the top. That key is the translation to all the issues listed in the Sentry's chronological listing.

I use this page all the time. It's not always 100% accurate or up to date (and a lot of time include appearances that are nothing more than a background panel), but it's usually close. I love it.

Has there been a definitive answer on what happened to Richard Rider post Thanos Imperative?

Nope. No explanation as to how Thanos and Star Lord were able to escape the Cancerverse and no explanation as to why Nova could not.

Classic Marvel.

So Richard Ryder, one of the most brilliantly written characters of the last 10 years is just... nothing now? What the what...?

Gotcha, thanks. They are definitely lagging on that.

Question: Do the Guardians of the Galaxy have a stand alone book or something which do not tie into big Marvel Events like Infinity?

In other words, have the Guardians ever had a chance to just have stories where they just go out into space doing cool space hero stuff like what the upcoming movie's gonna be like? Or will I have to wait until the movie comes around most likely?

I downloaded Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008) on Comixology and from what I can tell it's not a tie-in to any kind of event. Besides that they currently have a running title ever since the Marvel Now! initiative.

For something like that I'd recommend the 2008 series by Abnett and Lanning. It ties-in with a couple cosmic events, but if memory serves, it's done in a way that doesn't require any other reading. I know you don't need anything else to read their tie-ins to Secret Invasion. The War of Kings tie-ins I don't quite remember, but I'm pretty sure they stand alone. If you like it by the time you reach the end of the series, it continues into the 6 issue mini Thanos Imperative.

Other than that you can read their current series by Brian Michael Bendis. I don't read it, so I don't know how stand alone its tie-ins to Infinity were, but I know it's crossover with All-New X-Men right now, so there is that.

What is the current "event" in Marvel right now, and how many have their been since Civil War?

No event at the moment, though one will be coming soon (don't know when) called Original Sin.

Since Civil War:

World War Hulk
Secret Invasion
Siege
Fear Itself
Avengers vs. X-Men
Infinity

Those are the major ones. There were smaller ones like Shadowland, Spider-Island, and Age of Ultron... and there were cosmic ones: Annihilation, Annihilation Conquest, and War of Kings. Also the X-Men: Messiah Complex and Second Coming.

Late to the party, I know, but comicbookdb.com is my go-to site for that kind of stuff. Here's their chronological listing of the Sentry's appearances:

SO what's Thunderstrike doing these days?

The son, too? I know masterson's son took over the role. Who killed him/them?

Oh, I forgot about him. Marvel did too apparently.

Last I recall he was in Avengers Academy.

Yeah, he joined the second class of Avengers Academy, which we won't see ever again because the comic got canceled. Amadeus Cho recruited him for a very short-lived team of young heroes, too. I really wish Jason Aaron would do something with him. I mean, Eric Masterson was essentially the best friend Thor ever had, given that they shared the same body for a while, but Thor never bothers to check in on his kid or anything. Kind of messed up.
