The Official Suicide Squad Rotten Tomatoes Thread - Part 1

People please stop with the Marvel vs DC bickering!

This is like the biggest thread i've ever created and i'm quite proud of it, but i don't want it to be soiled by all this fanboy hoo-ha.

Please stop.

I've said it many times, but I'll say it again - if films like SS and BvS were very different movies and had scored over 80% on RT - not one whiner would be in here complaining about critics, or bias towards Marvel. If Doctor Strange is a 34%, will we hear from anyone around here who moans about SS's score moaning then about the critics? NO.

Marvel have consistently made better movies than DC so far. ACCEPT IT. If you compare SS to GotG, which a lot of people do, the comparison is not even funny. I watched GotG again the other day, and damn well teared up at the 'We Are Groot' bit. It's a cgi raccoon and a cgi tree man for Christ sakes...... That's how much work Marvel put into character. Not just visuals, or stunts, or explosions, or stuff looking cool... characters. And story.

Like or loathe Marvel's output, they are better than DC by a country mile right now. That's why their films review better. If DC EVER start making movies that care more about story and character than they do visual spectacle or cool imagery, we just might get somewhere....

I like that this thread is open again, but I don't like a lot of the heat going on here.
A number of reviews from sites approved by Rotten Tomatoes are not owned by the aggregate site.

Anyway, it's a shame that this movie is this low on the tomatometer, I had better hopes for it.
On the bright side, audience score seems consistent with the rise of number of reviews, there may be hope yet that this reflects better quality for this movie than its predecessor in this world building experiment.

Now that i've seen the movie... I will say SS's RT deserves a little more than what it's getting (Because I liked it more than BvS easily)... but then again, maybe this will be the wake up call WB needs. And hopefully something of a soft reboot may be in order.

Like BvS, I think the critics were too harsh on this film. It wasn't a good film, but don't think it was deserving of settling into the 20's. Wow.
I would think it would be more of split...

I said this before, but the rating is further hindered by the let down from the hype and false advertising because the movie didn't play anywhere near like what was shown in the first trailer that got everyone buzzing.

So now you have a hype bubble that burst and a movie that by all accounts is lacking in almost every important structural ingredient.

Eh I doubt most of the GA even saw the comic con trailer. Not like they know what they were missing.

The first SDCC trailer got like 70m hits on youtube just on one channel. That thing trended big time.

Audience score is already dropping I see. It was 74% earlier today. Down to 73 now.

Damn man you going to follow.me.around all day? Lol

We get it. You hate the movie. I didn't even think it was that great myself. Can we move on now?

I didn't even post hate here

You're saying the GA didn't see one of the most hyped trailers released. Unless they stopped going to social media, news sites and threw away their phones and tabs they likely were aware.

This is not a good sign for the film.

For what it's worth (I'm a stranger on the internet so probably not much), this movie has very poor WOM amongst people I know. Anecdotal evidence usually means next to nothing in cases like this, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

I want to give word of mouth credit for this one, but I like Will Smith movies, and Jai Courtney movies.
To see this being a second exception for both will break my heart as a fan.

You haven't seen the movie yet? When will you get the chance?

My wife is getting hounded by her friends to go see it lol. I think the silver lining is Harley in this.

The RT on this 26% with the Audience score at 74%. I figured the Audience score would be higher than the Critic score, but the trick is where the audience score will stabilize at as it seems to be dropping.

It is a bad movie. It's paced and edited poorly. The villain and her plot is unbelievably generic. Even the action scenes are pedestrian.

But... I enjoyed it for what it is thanks to some great performances and moments.

So it deserves to be slaughtered by critics... but I'm happy to say I had quite a fun time watching it.

I totally agree.

Thor: The Dark World - 66%

Suicide Squad - 26%

Does that seem sketchy to anyone else? Not that i am claiming conspiracy.

No.

Deja vu of BvS.

I totally agree.

I saw it once for free, will be seeing it again with some friends from work. I like it best out of the total three attempts so far, but I echo The Endless's statements.

Bright side is, the Wonder Woman trailer looked pretty good.

I am a little bit surprised though that the RT score is taking quite this much of a hit. (I would have guessed it would have split the critics more, where half would dislike it and the other half would be OK with it, so it would aggregate towards the 50's)The % drop for next weekend will be interesting but that's a different thread.

Three movies in

Man of Steel has the highest critics score and audience score of all the DCEU movies.
I guess people where right that we would all grow to appreciate MOS down the line.

Comic book movies are evolving. There have been some great CBMS over the last couple of years. It probably is true that movies that came out 10 years ago were treated differently at that time. New movies can't be judged on those films and it is silly to do so. Like I said, the genre is getting better, new movies or studios even need to adapt or die.

Up their game so to speak.

Yeah. It's definitely messy, but the fact that it's lower than BvS is astonishing. That movie was a cinematic abortion all around.
