Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

I don't feel too bad about Hardy bailing on this. I like the guy alright but he's far from irreplaceable.

Rumor is kicking around that Hardy is considering the part of BlackBolt for Marvels Inhumans, that could explain some things...

Only explains how nuts will spin things. Inhumans is too far away for casting.

I've heard that nowhere. Searched it on Twitter, two guys saying "since Hardy's free it would be cool if he was Black Bolt."

If Jake G. takes the part I wouldn't mind at all. He also has worked with Ayer before so that certainly would bode well.

Yeah, I call shenanigans. This wasn't Marvel swooping in to steal him for one of their movies, this was another film of his running over schedule.

Saying Hardy will be Black Bolt in the Inhumans movie which isn't out till 2018 is the reason he left Suicide Squad is somewhat (if not very) ridiculous. Marvel, and DC don't cast their movies till they have a director for at least the first movie that a character will appear in. And a lot can change between now and 2018, for all we know Mad Max could end up being a huge hit, or Hardy could just go back to his Locke, The Drop and Bronson kind of movies.

I am 100% sure though that some site will run a story about Hardy being unhappy with his role and he walked because he had a fight with Will Smith, or something similar. Sites love hits. Remember the "Affleck is going to quit as Batman" rumors?

Im honestly surprised the Mcconaughey brigade hasn't started in yet.

I think he's a decent actor but hugely overrated. (And that was before his career rebounded.) I don't want him for any big comic-book movie role, DC or Marvel.

Gyllenhaal is an equal trade for Tom Hardy dropping out. He's different but adds more street cred due to his Ayer involvement.

Tom Hardy left because of conflicting schedules? probably Flagg is going to die in the movie that's why Hardy accepted the role (despite a busy schedule) but later backed out? :hmm

Let's not imagine different and likely silly scenarios.. We had the TURE THERE. a movie of IÑARRITU had extended its filming and that's all...
He's a pro, that's all..

lol, sometimes when an actor drops out because of a scheduling conflict can be just that. Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain were in talks for Iron Man 2 and 3 respectively until both had to drop out due to another movie. There are those that can balance two jobs, but some like to commit to one role. I would have liked to see Hardy in the movie, but I wouldn't mind if Gyllenhaal is the replacement. That man is a great actor (still pissed he didn't get an Oscar nomation for Nightcrawler today...)

Nice to see Jake G getting some love these days, seems like for a long time many were writing him off as little more than a pretty boy.

I'm glad Jake G has rebounded. Personally I think Jake G is best when playing weirdos and not straight laced characters. I haven't seen NightCrawler yet but I thought he was fantastic in Prisoners.

He was also great in Enemy and End of Watch. End of Watch is directed by David Ayer, so it would be neat to see the two reunited, if Jake is Hardy's replacement.

No!!! Speak the Devil's name and he shall appear!!! [YT]3PN9WNPrK4Y[/YT]

:pal:

This post is gold.

For the record, I thought Pacific Rim was horrible.

I'm not gonna deny that I'm pretty fricking bummed that Hardy's left SS, though.

Pacific Rim WAS horrible. Seriously, if you aren't OMG SO IMPRESSED with monsters and robots punching each other in the face, what was there to like about the movie? Bland characters, lame Joel Schumacher-Batman-esque comedy, a story that barely made any sense... I swear, Del Toro is THE most overrated filmmaker among sci-fi/fantasy/superhero fans.

Anyway yeah, bummed that Hardy dropped out of this but if Jake or another actor of equal talent steps in, that will help.

I tried watching it the other day. Couldn't get past first fifteen minutes.

I usually like Del Toro though.

Tom's a busy man according to his IMDB page. Currently filming The Revenant, with Elton John biopic and a TV mini-series in pre-production and apparently he's involved in 7 projects "in development". Not at all surprising if scheduling conflicts are the reason he's out of Suicide Squad.

Take it for what it is worth...
According to sources, He simply didn't like the script he was finally given. Like we figured, the scheduling conflict is a cover story, so he left the project under amicable terms.

The rumor is the latest draft of Suicide Squad has upped the screen time of Deadshot and The Joker at the expense of the lesser-villains in the movie like Rick Flagg. This also may have contributed to Hardy's exit.

Discovers that one of the biggest concerns is that Will Smith want the movie to center on him so latino review decides to make that the center of one of their articles.

Quoting myself from yesterday (didn't figure sites would run with this so fast though)

I call bull. Hardy would've known what he was getting into and read the scrip before signing on. I doubt there would be revisions going on at this late stage with principal photography about to start soon.
