BvS The Official Superman/Batman Composer Thread

I do like his TDKT/MOS scores but I'd rather hear a fresh take on a Batman theme. Him doing the score to World's Finest is one thing, but for solo Batman movies, I'd rather hear something that steps away from hims typical texture-focused themes.

Id like to see Zimmer return for Superman's themes, but collaborate with another composer who can bring the new Batman theme to life. Im only down with Zimmer touching this batman reboot (in this film) if he REALLY does something different.

This is how I feel. I'd like to get a fresh take on the Batman theme.

New scores for both. Get a new composer.

Ideally, I'd love it if they renewed the Danny Elfman Batman and John Williams Superman themes. That'd be perfect for me.

But if not that then hey, maybe something similar. I want it to be exciting and epic, not boring or pretentious/over dramatic.

He's legendary...i suppose a change is valid....but Id rather stick to him...his stuff is riveting...i dont find his stuff boring....although yes his tones can be repetitive but i think he did that on purpose for the legacy Tdk films.

Zimmer will be back for MOS 2 (Batman vs Superman). That isn't even up for debate. He handles multiple projects a year and tends to stick with franchises. I don't see this changing with MOS 2 (Batman vs Superman).

Now whether he will score the individual batman movies and the other DC films...who knows.

They would never "renew" the Williams or Elfmans themes that my friend is insanity.

Maybe Zimmer can finally use that "Batman theme" he claimed he created during the Dark Knight days but shelved and never used.

Wait....what? Really? I've never heard of that. Where did you hear about that?

I love the Williams theme like everyone else, but it just does not fit in this Superman's world. Hopefully this makes sense, but the Williams theme sounds bright and cheesy. I absolutely don't mean that in a bad way at all, but it's the best description that I could think of.

I'd love for Hans Zimmer to return and even use his TDKT score (unlikely I know). They're going to need something epic for when batman is first revealed and Hans Zimmer has mastered that. Batman's first appearance in TDKR is spine tingling because of that score.

I really hope that he does. My favorite soundtrack is his work with Pirates. The MoS score was great, so there's no reason why he shouldn't come back.

This is a great question. They seem to want to distance themselves from the Nolan verse, but I can't imagine them not going with Zimmer since it's technically a Man of Steel sequel, so I think there will probably be a totally different Batman theme.

Keep Zimmer. Make the focus of the score Superman and the themes from MOS. Then reuse, sparingly, themes from TDK trilogy. Let whoever takes over the Batman stand alone movies create the all new theme.

Why in the world would they use anything from TDKT? Nolan's Batman universe is complete....kaput....acabado....finito....законченный....完成了.....完成した.....완성....Teleo.

FINISHED

:yay:

Seriously, I have no idea why people don't want him doing Batman's music. He did a great job with TDK and MoS. As KW said, it's not like they'll reuse anything from TDK series. He will be writing a completely new score for Batman.

I think it was in an '08 interview where Zimmer said he wrote a theme for BB. But when it was time for him and Howard to score TDK, he didn't use it (and wrote a different one instead). It was the reoccurring theme in the end credits, I think.

But I wouldn't be opposed if a new composer comes on, and goes back to the solely orchestral palette that made Williams, Elfman, Walker, and Goldenthal's contributions so good. I really miss that sound.

it would probably be a good idea to bring him back but not as the only composer, make it a joint effort.

Zimmer will focus on the Superman side since this is a sequel directly from Man Of Steel, but to make it less conflicting, have a new person come in for the new Batman.

I feel like that would make the movie feel a little chaotic. Scoring character themes is a very small part of what these composers do. Most of it is background ambiance or action music. I'd keep it with Zimmer because that would also help fit Batman into the universe that's already been established.

If he uses his unused score for Batman and is willing to craft new "Gotham" tracks, I don't see why not.

Everything else will be different because of this being, hopefully, wildly new Batman.

He must return. He fits the DCCU so well.

What he doesn't fit is the TASM universe. That was a "me too" pick by Marc Webb,

Eventhough I'd rather somebody else score this movie other than the overrated Zimmer, but this is supposedly still a sequel to MOS so there's no doubt Zimmer will return, unfortunately. He might as well since he already tainted both characters with his generic sound already. The mistake WB and Snyder are making is doing a Batman/Superman movie in place of MOS2. They should've waited for MOS trilogy to end. And maybe after the future Batman reboot begins to do a world's finest movie, imo. They jumped the gun. The Nolan trilogy ended barely a year ago. I think the batman franchise needs to go into retirement (just as Bale's Batman did) for a little while. So other DC characters can shine, but again WB don't have a clue what they're doing. There's a lot of confusion going on with the GA about whether Bale's returning or not.

I agree with those that believe that this "new" version of Batman should get a new theme/score instead of the already cliched generic sound Zimmer gave him the last franchise. It won't happen though Zimmer's too much of a narcissistic workaholic glutton that he want's to score every franchise he can get his grubby little hands on. I doubt he'll pass on an opportunity to score Superman and a different Batman in the same movie. The guy doesn't seem to have the cojones to say no to anything.

Did Zimmer kill your cat or something?

Zimmer has to return IMO. His music made MoS for me!

Marco Beltrami wouldn't be bad at all:woot:

Beltrami is pretty awesome, I wouldn't mind him for Batman.
