The Official Superman-Batman Discussion Thread

The annual was one of the best Bats/Supes comics I've read in a long time.

Well Aristotle, this thread is about the team up Superman/batman isn't it ? I hope you don't mind but I want to talk about the last issue of The Batman, "The batman Strikes", which featured superman. Because honestly, I don't to be flamed for this, but I found it very very enjoyable. And I found that the writing was better than most of the official "Superman/Batman" even under Loeb's writing. The Story was a one shot, and was simplified but I think there were excellent ideas! The depiction of Batman & Superman was subtle and good. The book was cheap, I thought "oh well, let's give it a try" ; And I was finally happier than when I read the old (Loeb, Verheinden, etc ...)issues of Superman/batman.
Does anyone else read it ?

I read The Batman Strikes! because of my blood oath to consume every Batman tale ever told, and occasionally it does surprise me with some good stuff. I'll be sure to snag this one off the pile next.

Well, I just read the last issue of Superman/batman, and I found it excellent. I find the depiction of Batman and superman quite good. Especially Superman ; he's nice without being naiv or dumb. I compare this to the TV Smallville's Clark. It works fine for me. But the most important : when I saw the last line guy named "Brannon" I thought about metallo, and how it could transform the actual character into somethng better. He just reminded me of Metallo. And the end of the book? Well, this is the part I love : [BLACKOUT]a Doomsday clone with kryptonite bones! [/BLACKOUT]What a brilliant idea. I've always despised Doomsday. Stupid character. I've always thought he needed more ; when Brainiac took his body I was happy. [BLACKOUT]Now I think Doomsday as a government weapon works fine (as it did in the cartoon) and add kryptonite is a good idea IMO.[/BLACKOUT]

This issue, to me, read like an ideological conflict between the Marvel Universe and the DCU. On the one side is Superman, who is basically trustworthiness incarnate. He's almost never given anyone a reason to distrust him, and when he has, there's always Batman and a kryptonite ring to stop him. The World's Finest Team are the greatest heroes, in any fiction, of the last 100 years.

On the other side is the mistrust that seems intrinsic to the MU. "There ain't no good guys," Amanda Waller's sneer seems to say. This is the grim'n'gritty realism that Marvel and Dark Knight Returns finally succeeded in forcing onto comics in the 1980s. This is what made a Civil War happen in the MU. This is why the X-Men are doomed to live in a world that hates and fears them. The MU is realistic (which is why I don't like it as much.)

Unsurprisingly, DC's Truth, Justice, and the American Way triumph. The outcome assures us that mistrust achieves nothing. Compared to unbending ethics and strength of spirit, postmodern gray morals have no chance. Now, in the real world, that probably isn't true. But it sure is nice to see somebody else who wishes it was.

Green is doing a better job than he did with his horrendous Pot-Kryptonite issue. I can accept him being the new ongoing writer, although I'd give anything to see Kelly on the book. In my perfect world, Kelly would be writing both Superman books as well as Superman-Batman.

It was a portrayal of what Superman would be like if he ever got stoned...written by someone who has obviously never been high.

Yet it didn't stop the issue from being hilariously well-written.

Koved this issue and the doomsday bad guy is drunk like me whne i dont care about **** and leaguer where have you been duddy dog man your the ****ing ever man! Jag and colossal are ****ing g=cool man,. I had drunk sex wih my GF ahahahah love the hyupes dudes.

I didn't kove it. I just...well, I guess I can't really do that with "liked," so forget it...it was kokay.

I koved it so hard.

Koved it so hard I had to buy a second copy!

I was going to tell him to go for it too but the moment's kind of passed.

it was a good issue. ive enjoyed Superman/Batman for the most part. my only complaint would be that this issue pretty much came straight out of the first season of Justice League Unlimited.

I'm enjoying these series a lot!! Love the art as well. Supes and Bats remind me of Routh and Bale so much, which is awesome! Can't wait for the next issue, where 'American boy' a doomsday wanna be, lol, is going to fight Supes. Hope is awesome.

This arc has been fantastic so far, and the latest issue was the best one yet. Unless the concluding issue of this arc will turn out to be utter crap that ruins everything, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying this in TPB.

Yeah this arc is fantastic. Im really enjoying it, like a summer blockbuster. The line ma kent said to bruce was great "Eat your peas." gotta love little moments like that.

Couple things:

1. It's super weird to see Superman/Batman being actually a good comic. I mean it happened for like six entire issues and then never again yet here it is all of a sudden being a comic I actually like and want to read more of.

2. "Lexcorp"? Last I checked in Lex Luthor was a crazy fugitive who had swapped his company for a green battlesuit? If someone could fill in the gaps for me between there and here that'd be great.
