The Official Superman Score & Soundtrack Thread - Part 1

Well, the suit does have retro-elements to it.

The score will probably be very modern sounding yes, but I can definitely see the composer being somewhat inspired by the heroic themes of yesterday.
Bates' Watchmen-score had a very retro sound to it at times reminding me of Vangelis' Blade Runner.

I doubt the score for MOS will be as experimantal as that though and that we'll get a more traditional symphonic score but with substantial electronic elements.

And I dont think we'll know who the composer is before summer 2012.

Didn't Blade Runner take place in 2019? :cwink:

But, I think you are exactly right. Besides getting rid of the trunks, it seems that Snyder (or WB) is playing this film very safe and easy. I haven't seen anything from this film yet that screams "edgy" or "experimental". So I expect to see this policy extend to the score, as well. Hell, we may even get Williams' theme (or maybe the man himself) back to score this film, just to assure viewers that they aren't throwing everything out with the bathwater.

That all said, it is still far to early to know what they are planning. Everything I said was entirely guesswork on my part. I was just offering my assumptions at this point, given Snyder's statements about "pretending the previous films don't exist" or something to that affect.

And you're totally right about not knowing when the composer will be hired. I said something similar to that a few days ago. Blockbusters today seem to given scores almost no attention at all, unless the composer already has a relationship with the director (like with Zimmer and Nolan, or Doyle and Branagh). Silvestri came on very late on Cap, and had only a matter of weeks to write and record the score.

But, given the nature of this film, with the huge chunk of time between the wrap of filming and the release (probably at least 14 months), the timeline of when the composer signs on is purely speculation. It could be only a few months before the premiere, or it could be right as shooting ends, or somewhere in-between.

I just hope the score is well-done.

I see that the exact opposite way. the trunkless and modified suit is the only thing "edgy" or "experimental" I've seen about this movie. Snyder is not someone who takes a lot of risks, but altering Superman suit to a more alien Kryptonian look is not safe because you try to give Superman something that's not in comics and it's a war.

And it's exactly why I'm sure he won't be using Williams theme.

I'm not going to miss it because this is a new Superman movie and the theme can be heard in Superman 1,2,3, 4 and Returns and on Youtube.

And I'm pretty much in agreement with Payaso.

I agree that we're probably not getting the Williams theme. I'm just in anticipation about who the composer will be. I love films scores and hopefully I can add MOS's to my collection.

People would miss it even if the new theme and the score won the Best Original Score Oscar.

They have to change it to completely break with the old.
New costume.
New theme.

Furthermore, it could be the greatest score humanity has ever heard, and Elevator Man will call it bad.

Now go back to your pathetic and useless existence. You got nothing useful to say then don't say anything

When I say miss, doesnt mean I'm not gonna like the new one. It's just a classic that I grew up with, but I'm not holding on to it either.

The fact that Williams theme won't be in the new film makes me want to cry, that theme is as important to me and means as much to me and my childhood as the original films and Christopher Reeve himself and to me is as much part of Superman as the 'S' on his chest.

Psyched for Man of Steel but the fact that we won't be hearing that legendary theme in it almost breaks my heart!

I agree. But this is a new film and a new star and a new direction. Everything ends sometime, which is definitely a good thing. The Reeve Superman had lost its direction and purpose. It was becoming tiresome.

I'm glad they're reinventing the character. And obviously, if they redo everything else, they must also get a new theme.

You compare Williams' theme with Donner movies and Christopher Reeve, so you should be suffering because Donner is not directing and Reeve is not acting as well.

Michael Giacchino. Loved the hell out of his Star Trek score. That opening theme was HUGE.

Whose saying the Williams theme won't be used?

Snyder is going to have Cavill sing in his theme that's a mash-up of pop songs. 3 Doors Down meets Soulja Boy.
