Also, it makes me wonder if Clark will be wearing glasses and if he would still be going by Clark Kent and would they kill off Martha instead of Jonathan this stuff is making me paranoid!

Well, I wasn't really saying that...like, remotely at all. I just meant more distrusting of their heroes in general like in the MU. Nothing about making Superman a WS-esque hero, making that distrust obviously justified. Not sure how you got that from what I said, honestly
I went back and re-read the solicitation to clarify what you might've meant. Honestly, it just made me more excited for Morrison's take on Superman. According to the solicitation, the world distrusts him because he's the first superhero. Knowing that Morrison basically considers Superman to rightfully be the greatest superhero of all time, I'm excited because we'll get the opportunity to see him craft the story of why the DC universe, unlike the Marvel universe, implicitly trusts its superheroes for the most part.

Imagine if a superpowered demigod showed up one day out of the blue. Wouldn't you be utterly f***ing terrified? I sure would. Now imagine that that superpowered demigod turns out to be the awe-inspiring, warm, universally good paragon of humanity that Morrison's Superman has historically been. This is a world that was confronted with one of the most frightening doomsday scenarios ever conceived--a being so far beyond humanity in terms of power that he's 100% unstoppable and can do literally whatever he wants with impunity--only to find out that this apocalyptically powerful being turns out to be possibly the most decent, honest, and morally righteous person they could imagine as well. That's about the only thing that could possibly shape a whole world to accept and put its faith in superheroes as a whole. Because Superman was the first, the universal embrace of superheroes in the DC world actually makes sense rather than being something you'd have to extend your suspension of disbelief to cover.

Granted, if it were someone other than Morrison, I'd be worried about their potentially botching it. But Morrison's basically already given us a perfect Superman in All-Star Superman, so I have no doubt that he'll give us something at least approaching that level of quality in Action Comics. The "first superhero" scenario is as good a ground as any to start that on.

I like what Morrison did with All Star Superman unlike what he did w/Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne I feel Superman is Grant Morrison's baby!

Right, that's definitely the kind of direction I want it to go in. I was just voicing my hope that it doesn't go the other way is all. Not that I think it necessarily will or anything, just saying my hope that it won't.

But to answer your question, I wouldn't be terrified. I'm just take some mind altering drugs and hang out with him/her as a demigod being myself.

Don't be like that, you can see the reality aliens, too!

This.

And the heroes that follow Superman should emulate his example. They should all aspire to be as decent and compassionate as him. Civilian safety first-beat the supervillian second. Life is precious and must be protected. Superheroes serve citizens, they do not rule them. Superman sat the tone by putting others first, and his fellow heroes should look up to him as the granddaddy of them all. Bruce Wayne had the desire to become a symbol because he had already seen how much of a difference and a symbol Superman was. Superman inspired him, the loss of his parents motivated him. All other superheroes should look at Superman as the standard that they want to reach.

I hope what you say turns out to be true. if it is, that will restore some of my hope and interest in the relaunch titles.

I also hope that applies to Supergirl's solicitation descript. That it's just that.............a solicitation to pique your interest and get you to read.

hopefully, it means that Supergirl WON'T be a cold hearted, emotionally detached b****.

wow!! that's perfect!! that's exactly what Superman should embody!

I hope the relaunched Superman, and the new movie Superman, will be in that mold!

Superman should be the character model other heroes look up to!

Well, while Superman has a pretty solid core concept--basically, optimism personified--Supergirl's not quite so set in stone. I could see them trying out this emotionless b**** thing for a year or two. I have no idea why they'd do that, since people seemed way happier with the current Kara after Sterling Gates and some others made her a likable, relatively normal teenager instead of the uber-b**** she started out as, but a lot about this relaunch perplexes me. :o

Well, I really doubt we'll see Batman looking to Superman as an inspiration. Batman fanboys would foam at the mouth with hatred and envy; we'd have daily suicide bombing on DC and WB's office.

Besides that, I don't necessarily see a need for Superman to be the inspiration for everyone to be a hero or anything. I love Superman and the idea of him being the best, but I also don't really see a reason to gimp the internal goodness of other heroes in doing what they do for him to be emphasized even more so as.

well Superman doesn't have to be the exact role model.

but he should definitely be a paragon of virtue.

I'm really looking forward to Superman being the FIRST hero in DC's continuity again. That's where Superman belongs. The first and always the GREATEST.

wasn't that what they were trying to do in that Earth One graphic novel?

I read that and was like.............

but that begs the question............with this relaunch, is that going to sink the planned Earth One stories ( weren't they planning an Earth One Batman and more Earth One Superman stories? )?

Yeah, I wouldn't presume that all the other heroes are going to spend their time staring starry-eyed at Superman before suddenly deciding to don their own capes. I think he'd just be more of a background presence, kind of a ubiquitous reminder that, if the legal system and conventional forms of justice have failed people, there's always an alternative that needn't be as sordid or grim as the word "vigilante" usually connotes. He's more a model for the upbeat nature of heroism in the DC universe as a whole (which, if the folks at DC have any kind of collective brainpower at all, they'll reinstate, since clearly the grittier, more 'realistic' post-Identity Crisis DC universe was not an especially good idea).

Well, my first exposure to Kara was through her introduction in the Superman/Batman: Supergirl story arc, drawn by Michael Turner. I don't remember if she started out "b*****" in that story arc. But from what I've read, she did turn all bratty and b***** in later story arcs.

That initial story arc, and Turner's drawing of her, formed my "ideal" image of Kara. A sort of free-spirited, youthful innocence. Even the Superman/Batman: Apocalypse DVD captured that to an extent.

so that's the Kara I hope to see at some point in this relaunch.

I hated that arc, personally. I also hate Turner's art. I suspect we may want rather dissimilar things out of Supergirl. ;)

Supergirl became a much better character the further away from that boos**t they took her.

maybe we're thinking of different arcs, but the Supergirl story arc I'm referring to is the initial arc that was collected in Superman/Batman: Supergirl trade paperback ( which is the one that I read ).

Like I said, I don't remember her being THAT bad character wise in that story, but I could be wrong. after that, though, I didn't really read first hand. but what I read on review sites made it seem like she turned into a bratty b****.

Yeah, we're talking about the same thing.

That was officially the beginning of Loeb's downward spiral.

well then, I guess we just formed different impressions of that story arc...lol

actually, my "ideal" Supergirl would be one raised on a small farm in Kansas by 2 loving adopted parents...................

Perfect

And I still think that paranoia, humanity being untrustworthy toward Superman will be embody with Luthor who is a character I can't wait to see Morrison revisit.

I want a Luthor spinoff.
