Those police cars on that alt cover to number 1 look pretty old. Intentional? I don't know. Could be the 80's. :o

Guys. Action Comics is set 5 years in the past (DCU Timeline). So the Perez comic book will tackle the present day Supes who is a 5 year veteran. What I like about Golden Age Superman is that he seems more dangerous, more assertive, more aggressive, more unpredictable, and much tougher. I like that interpretation of Superman the same way I like the Superman goody good Jesus-like he's been before.

FROM NEWSARAMA:

"We've made Superman such an iconic figure over the years that we've lost some of the character and the ability to tell stories with that character," said Dan DiDio, co-publisher at DC. "There's so much continuity that's been built on this character. We really wanted to get a Superman that is more accessible to the audience."
DiDio said Action Comics by Grant Morrison and Rags Morales will take place five years in the past at the "dawn of the age of superheroes," with Superman introduced as more of a young, isolated alien who's trying to find his place in the world, without his parents to help him. The comic will show him developing his costume, starting out in a pair of jeans, and discovering his powers, since he cannot fly but only leaps over tall buildings.

So the League came together in Superman's, and therefore the entire DCU's (Except for Stormwatch or whatever)first year?

I know you thought you were clearing things up with that, but all you've done is cause even more questioning and yes, b***hing. :o

I/m not clearing things up. That was written in the Newsarama article.

Like I said, that causes even more problems. If JL takes place five years in the past, and Superman also takes place five years in the past, then that means that the "dawn of the age of Superheroes" is only five years old, meaning Supes only had like, I don't know, a couple of months before he teamed up with bats, and the rest of them *****e bags to start the League.

Which is stupid. At least before I thought it was a good five or so years before the League came together where everybody was just doing their own thing, but this just, well, sucks.

Not to mention how much this screws up Batman's continuity. He couldn't have possibly had 4 Robins in 5 years.

Who said he can't Ultimate Spider-Man had more than 100 issues, lots of villains, lots of girlfriend changes and its just one year. ITS COMIC BOOK TIMELINE. It never makes sense.

We've had a decade of Ultimate Spidey and it's just 1 year in Ultimate Universe. Even the heroes there appeared in the same year. The Simpsons ages never change. It's the stories that matter more. There are a lot of things that don't make sense in the comic universe (how can Supes fly exactly? Why did he wear underpants outside?), but it's the stories that matter more.

I'm really interested in your response aside from the face palm. I want to understand why you think the forming of the Justice League the same year as Superman's emergence does not make sense when there are much more ridiculous things in the comic universe.

Well lets, excuse that fact that that 100 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man= 1 year is f**king ridiculous.

They're saying that Batman and GL's continuity is still mostly intact. (Except for the stuff that can't happen due to the huge shake ups like no Titans, JSA, or whatever.) That leaves at least 15 years worth of stuff happening in a 5 year period. Knightfall. Zero Hour. 4 and a half Robins. Cataclysm, No Man's Land, Blackest Night (With characters that don't exist in this timeline mind you.) War of Light, etc, etc. You can try to shove it all into a 5 year period, but after awhile, you lose your believability. Yes, this is a world with an alien who can fly, a Guy with a magic ring, and a dude who can move faster than the speed of light, but there's still an air of believability underneath. One fantastic thing does not presuppose that any fantastic thing you pull out of your ass is possible as well. There's just no way all that could have happened in five years. Unless they've seriously trimmed the fat. A lot of stuff will not have happened, and I don't know, Batman had 3 Robins at the same time.

It's Laser cannons on Telekinetic Kung Fu Super Gorillas man. There is such a thing as going too far.

Thank you for your response. While I agree with what you said (there will be alot of erasing in the GL and Bats franchise), I was talking about Superman and JL emerging in the same year, not the GL and Bats continuity. I don't find anything too ridiculous and too farfetched with Supes and JL appearing in the same year 5 years ago. But having Dick, Tim, Jason, Steph, and Damian as Robins in a 5 year timeline is indeed pushing it, but not so much. Maybe some of those names would not be former Robins in the new continuity.

They will all still be former Robins in the new continuity.

3 Robins in 5 years.....this f**kin' country. :o

The simple fact is that we're not going to know how it's going to work out until the books are released. No reason to stress about it until then.

We'll likely not know how it works out until somebody half ass explains it 2 years or so from now when it conveniently comes up in a story.

what I find kind of funny is how, when they say they want to make Superman more "relatable," they have a tendency to turn him into angry, moping, loner alien dude trying to "find his place" in the world. The Earth One story did something similar.

like all that will make him more relatable.........

I just doubt that DC is going to try to cram all 4 Robins into five years. And even if they did, they'd have to have some sort of explanation. They've done some stupid things before but they aren't that stupid.

hmmmm there is wisdom here

Batman doesn't work in a 5 year time-frame...none of it does tbh.

I like most everything about the Superman reboot but the costume.
