The Official Superman Thread - Part 2

The drama Clark experiences in the partial reboot echoes Peter Parker. If DC's solution to "Grandpa's Superman" is Super Spider-Man...then I have mixed feelings.

Doesn't help that Lois' boyfriend comes from the Maximum *****e section of Popped Collars United.

Well, to be fair, this kind of drama was also a pretty big part of the Golden Age Superman. He was kind of always pining for Lois but was always getting overlooked as Clark Kent. It's a pretty old dynamic between the two, well before Spider-Man existed.

Well, to be fair, Spidey never really had that kinda problem with the ladies. They were all fighting over him.

While he is apparently desperate not to be in a relationship with a sexy blonde in skintight black pvc or a hawt redhead supermodel

Confused Mystirious is confused

Hope they don't make him a woman beater or something just to be all edgy and to get some stupidass award from people that don't read comics enough to realize that it's patronizing boos**t. :o

So in fact.....this is your grand daddys Superman and has nothing to do with Spider-Man at all. Especially if he goes beat the crap out of a pimp or crooked congressman directly after that scene.

Superman is going to be showing pimps the back of his super pimp hand

I wonder if Superman is going to be getting a new love interest as well now that he and Lois wont be together

Lois can do so much better :ninja:

No......Lois treats Clark like crap. she deserves that blonde d***** boyfriend of hers. Clark can do so much better..........:o :oldrazz:

It's just tiresome to me. With Spider-Man, I could kind of understand the impetus for making him single again--a lot of his best years featured him as a young, eligible bachelor. But does anyone perceive Clark that way? Does anyone want to? Does anyone really want to see Clark Kent dating random women or Lois dating random men? Does anyone even want to see more of the completely ludicrous Lois/Lana triangle situations from the goofy-ass '50s again? I just don't really see the point in making Superman single.

I've never seen Lois be cruel to Clark before she and Clark have always seemed like a happy couple to me

That's what I'm saying. It's like, some crap people say happened, that never really happened. I remember seeing her kinda jealous of his relationship with WW. But she wasn't a b***h about it. Didn't threaten to leave him or bang Lex Luthor if he didn't stop seeing her or anything. Where are these instances of Lois being a b***h to Clark while they were married?

clark and lois being married bores the **** out of me...at the same time, i have no interest in clark being a pimp.

i wouldnt mind him being in a relationship with lana, though.

I can't really speak for how Lois treated Clark ( before marriage ) in the comics, as the only stories I've read are from when they are married. they always seemed like a happy couple.

But judging from how Lois treated Clark in the Donner movies and SR, and now in this relaunch ( in that preview, Clark's basically hearing Lois laugh about him and calling him a loser to her boyfriend ), I don't really see what Clark sees in those versions of Lois.

but then, I too know what it's like to pine after a girl who doesn't treat you very nice......:oldrazz:

And, I'd prefer if they KEPT Lois and Clark married. First the whole ****** deal with Peter and MJ, and now the Lois and Clark. what's wrong with portraying a loving, "normal" married couple? to me, being a superhero while being married presents more interesting dynamics than a perpetually single protagonist.

I'm assuming in this relaunch, though, that eventually Clark will end up with Lois, so I guess it'll be interesting to watch how the relationship plays out.

If they continue to keep Clark single and dating random women, though..........that would get boring to me....

I'm confused. People seem to be talking about this Carroll dude like he's a complete a-hole, but I didn't get that impression from the two preview pages I've seen. The moment he and Clark were introduced, he remarked that Lois talks about him all the time, complimented his work, and then said it was nice to meet him. Then when Clark left, he asked Lois if those two ever had a thing in the past, and that's about it. Hell, even Lois wasn't being a b**** as Clark walked away. She said Clark was kind of a loner, and he never seemed to connect with any of the girls she tried to hook him up with.

Oh my, what horrible bastards Lois and Carroll are.

This is probably going to be like Richard White all over again. When people heard that Lois was gonna be with some other man in Superman Returns, everyone was ready for him to be the biggest *****e on Earth so it'd look completely justified if Clark/Superman stole Lois from him. Then Richard turned out to be this really decent guy. Hell, Richard made Superman look like the a-hole for being a homewrecker.

Watch Jonathan Carroll turn out to be an okay guy down the line. Even weirder, watch him try to befriend Clark.

I'm actually much more interested in this book now.

OMG!! You may be right!! :wow:

"Serial killer," "abusive boyfriend," and "complete jerk" are all common cliches applied to third wheel boyfriends who get between the protagonist and his love interest. That way the protagonist still looks like the good guy when he steals another dude's girl.

But this is Lois Lane we're talking about, here. She wouldn't put up with a jerk for a boyfriend. We the fans know she usually gravitates toward Superman/Clark, and I wouldn't be surprised if Carroll turned out to be Extroverted Blond Clark.

The problem with that is that you're using logic in the same universe that gave us women in refrigerators, Superman and big Barda doing a porno, and that old chess nut, homicide by kitty.

Here's the thing, though: in our first introduction of this character in this story apparently is of him bare-chested, clearly having come from Lois' bedroom wondering when she's coming back. Not exactly the subtle-type. Also, notice that despite Lois mentioning Clark to him--presumably more than once--he simply goes "Oh, yeah, the newspaper guy," as though he's wasn't really worth remembering. And, while smiling and introducing himself, he's pointing his finger at Clark as if to suggest he's too cool to shake hands. And then check out his Cheshire Cat grin when he says that Lois and him were "celebrating"; again, not exactly subtle. Also, notice how he teases Lois about Clark "pining for [Lois]" when she wonders why Clark doesn't seem interested in the friends she's tried to set him up with. He may not be a complete a-hole, but he does come off a bit jerkish in my opinion.

No, Lois wasn't being a b****, but it's seems evident that, in her pity for Clark, she's seems more clueless than usual, in that she doesn't seem to consider the possibility that Clark may be interested in her. Either that or she's in serious denial about her own feelings. Although, to be fair, that's usually the traditional depiction of Lois with regards to how she feels about Clark in comparison to Superman.

On top of Clark losing a few inches in height post-Flashpoint, they also turned him into a cliche?

There is a weird cuckold thing going on there I want no part of

New boyfriend = Clone of Lex Luthor. Or a clone of a clone that thought he was Lex Luthor.

Those pages are really sad :csad:

I dont like seeing Clark so lonely and sad like that.

That's why I assume Lois's new boyfriend will turn out to be an abusive jerky jerk

DC are probably going to have Lois and Clark get together again and making her boyfriend a dbag is the most obvious way that they would do that in the story

It is a total cliche though :down
