The Curse of Shazam??? Curse???

Sigh.........Well....I will reserve judgememnt on it for now.....But it already sounds like a downer. Darker is the new cool.....:csad:

Welcome to 25 years ago.

I wish they'd release Jeff Smith's Shazam digitally.

I want to read it again.

Is it just me or does everyone in superboy have the same face?

When supergirl showed up this issue, I thought it was kon-el in a wig and lipstick.

I was shocked that Supergirl had just a red triangle on her crotch

I thought we were over that....apparently not. Darker is appropriate at times.....but for Captain Marvel, never. Are we going back to what ended up being the backlash of what resulted from the success of Dark Knight and Watchmen? While those were absolutely outstanding achievements in the comic book medium, too much of a "good" thing yields undesirable results. Kingdom Come was the answer to that. Guys like Superman and Cap are supposed to be the beacon of light in the darkness. If we get away from that, then that is not who those characters are. More than the similarities in physical abilities, that is what those two characters represent in common. I know I keep going on about this, but I hope we don't lose this. I feel it is important and characters that represent pure goodness are needed.

I agree. We seem to want our heroes wallowing down in the mud with us instead of having them be paragons of virtue. "It ain't real" if he sin't angst-ridden all the freakin' time. Some heroes should be darker....I get that. And even the ones who are more positive have issues to deal with. But this new Superman is NOT Superman. It's some emo kid who has no life.

Not feeling this at all. Gonna keep reading to see if this changes. If not I'm out.

The way Superman's acting in the Superman title is most likely not his normal self (the last issue of Action hints at this), and "emo kid" simply does not apply to the Action Comics Superman.

It's not gonna change.

And the new Superman is closer to the classic in a lot of ways, but basically the real Superman has not appeared since 1986 and will never return.

Yep, you whipped out the ol' "emo kid" claim. Nothing you say is valid anymore.

Bryan Q. Miller's "secret" project was a Superman one all along

I'll buy anything by Bryan Q. Miller. Turning a character I never gave a **** about into one of my favorite of all time (Stephanie Brown) is no small feat. I respect the hell out of any writer that good. I didn't even like most of this show and I'll still buy this; at least he's finally Superman. It can't be any worse than Superman (vol. 4) has been so far.

With ACTION COMICS #9, two acclaimed guest artists will explore an alternate Earth and the story of its Kryptonian protector. Multiple Eisner Award-winning artist Gene Ha will be a guest artist for the primary plot, penned by regular series writer Grant Morrison. And fresh from his recent work on THE SHADE miniseries, artist Cully Hamner will illustrate the issue’s back-up story, written by Sholly Fisch.
Parallel worlds come to the forefront of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave,” with titles such as EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST exploring the adventures of heroes on alternate Earths. ACTION COMICS #9 sets up the multiverse with a standalone story of a Superman from another Earth, who must fight a monster from yet another parallel world. But this isn’t just any monster; it’s a Superman surrogate known as Superdoom, twisted into an unstoppable agent of evil.
The back-up story will also feature an adventure of this alternate Superman, set on his parallel Earth.
Regular series artist Rags Morales will return for ACTION COMICS #10 in June. In the meantime, check out Ha’s inks for ACTION COMICS #9.

With all due respect; if enough people do not like it, it will change.
Saying that the "real" Superman has not appeared since 1986 is not really accurate. Since 1938 Superman has had revisions by many writers. If you were to ask a Golden Age purist, they would probably tell you that the "real" Superman has not appeared since the late 40's (when Segal & Shuster stopped) or early 50's. The Silver Age Superman is different from the Golden Age as is the Bronze Age, Modern Age, etc. Some changes have been good, some not. While I did enjoy for the most part the John Byrne/Jerry Ordway era, there were some ideas that Byrne wanted that I was glad to find out were rejected. I'm not really feeling this interpretation of Superman, but for the moment this is the "real" Superman. My biggest gripe is the costume (which I strongly feel is the result of a corporate push due to the lawsuit); it's just horrible! Another problem is the depiction of Clark as the alienated loner (I preferred mild-mannered, good-natured, bumbling), I have always believed that Superman works best when it is acknowledged that Clark is the real person; that's who he was raised as. He was not raised as Superman. He grew into that. Yes, both are dual aspects of the same man and in his Clark persona he has to downplay his physical presence; but Clark is who he is and Superman is what he can do. I have always liked the theory that no one has connected the two because Superman not wearing a mask creates the assumption that there is no secret identity. Makes sense to me!
Though I did like what Morrison did in All-Star(but I don't see it as the greatest Superman story ever like some do), I'm on the fence about this new stuff. As a huge Superman fan, I'm grudgingly giving it a chance; but I'd be lying if I said I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I don't like the sidetracks that Action Comics is taking. I actually liked the 2 issues that Kubert did more than the origin thing going on. But I wish they would've at least finished one story before starting the next.

Now there's a another sidetrack that doesn't even take place on this earth? Meh. I think I'm gonna end up dropping this book after they finish the origin story and picking up trades after that.

Interesting suits, the belt design reminds me of that one popular suit manip.

Unrelated to that, I just found out there's an area of Metropolis called Glenmorgan Square. Could Glen Glenmorgan from Morrison's Action Comics be the namesake?
