The Official Superman Thread - Part 3

Anyone else notice a pattern with Action Comics? The first issue had Spider-Man shoutouts, and this month has a DC version of the Bruce/Betty/Talbot love triangle. Lane stands in as Ross, for good measure. And now that I think about it, Supes even has a healing factor. Oh, and the Hulkbuster, too. Morrison's "first superhero" approach at work?

Anyways. Action Comics #2 rocks. Krypton looks cool, too. P.S. [blackout]Ultimate Brainiac[/blackout]?

I imagine Superman's had a healing factor for a long time now. In the rare instances where he is injured, he doesn't stay that way for long.

I hope Morrison keeps [blackout]Johns' origin revamp for Brainiac[/blackout].

I can't get enough of Action Comics. I don't think I've been this much in love - and excited about - one comic since Ultimate Spider-Man first started.

I hate healing factors. I'd much rather characters like Superman and Hulk just be invulnerable. Healing factors is just an excuse to cut them up and have them bleeding all over the page. Hate that crap.

I enjoyed the first issue, but Action Comics #2 was much better. You really get a sense of the series hitting its stride.

But this is a 1938-power level Superman, so he can be hurt. And if he can be hurt, you might aswell give him a healing factor. It's a power he's always had, I'm certain. How do you think he can just recover from Kryptonite poisoning in seconds? If he couldn't rapidly heal, he'd probably end up being killed by it.

He could always be hurt. You just gotta hit him hard enough.

I like that they're really emphasizing Lex as a scientist. This may be the first time he's ever had the title of Dr. in any main-continuity story too.

Wow, the plot thickens. What an issue. What a great time to be a Superman fan. Even better than issue 1. 3rd best of the week behind Swamp Thing and Animal Man.

Story 10/10
Art 9/10
Total 9.5/10

really? You gave that art a 9? Did you look at Lois' face at any point during this issue? I wouldn't give the art higher than a 4 for this issue.

I love Rags, but this is just bad. Last issue had a few problems, but nothing like this. Why can't we get the Rags that drew Identity Crisis? That book was beautiful.

Story-wise, issue #2 rocked hard! I loved it! Art-wise, I enjoyed Rag's artwork. I did, however, hated the pencil filler; Lois looked horrible. I always hate it when a comic book has two artwork combined.

Also, I absolutely feel that this book at $3.99 is a rip-off. I expected more story with that price. Throwing in behind the scene extras does not justify $3.99. At $2.99, I would understand a 20-page story comic book. Don't get me wrong, I will gladly pay extra for more of Grant's story, but a 20-page book at $3.99 is a rip-off!!

DC, rip-off!! Drawing the line at $2.99? pffft!!

I just don't like bloodletting in superhero comics. I'd rather have my fantasy violence be a little more PG and a little less R.

What I DO like is the DCnU Jor-El design.

I thought that was who that was on the last page

Now we know what happened to Wonder Woman's pants. He stole them in his never ending quest to own a decent pair of pants :ninja:

I downloaded #1 and #2 onto my iPad and read them last night.

I haven't really been following Superman in comics for the last couple of years, but figured with this relaunch it would be as good a time as any to pick it up again and start from the beginning.

And I have to admit, I went in with some low expectations. I'm a fan of big power Superman - I like being wowed with the things he can do - so figured by taking him back to a 1938 level power, I wouldn't enjoy the story as much. Wrong! Great writing, great art and I love the new direction they're taking not just with Superman, but with the other well known names in his universe. Superman has an noticeably different attitude in this series, and it just works.

I loved the art, but yeah, his Lois in this issue was terrible. That panel of her swiping John's keycard is atrocious.
