The Official Superman Thread - Part 4

i just finished the first 9 issues of Superman, and i didnt think they were that bad. They could be better no doubt, but i have read alot worst from the New 52. I dont feel that epicness though that i should from a Superman comic. I dont know why
 
The main problem with the Superman title is, and always will be, that it feels wholly inconsequential compared to what Grant's doing in Action.

It doesn't make any sense that DC is treating the Superman title that way. Take a look at the Batman line. Sure, Detective Comics and Batman: The Dark Knight don't have anything consequential happening just like with Superman, but Scott Snyder's Batman, Grant Morrison's Batman Incorporated, and Peter Tomasi's Batman & Robin seem to be working quite well with one another. And then we have all the other Bat-books integrating themselves with Snyder's Batman, and those that currently aren't, are planning on linking themselves more to that narrative.

But instead, we're hearing rumors that Grant Morrison is just doing whatever he wants and the other writers have to play catch up even as their books just don't go along with what Morrison is doing. It would make soooooo much more sense to have a great writer on Superman (like Paul Cornell) along with Supergirl and Superboy and have them link to Morrison's narrative.
 
Who is he? One of them guys who gets paid to scrub hot shot writers bal...I mean an Editor?
 
Mike Marts doesn't scrub anyone's balls!

Nothing Superboy #10 was a good book expect for Cassie. Since before Flashpoint Cassie has been acting like she is on a really bad period and it just hasn't stopped yet. This whole issue on her part was nothing but her d-teasing Superboy. However Superboy was well written.

Thats the thing. Writers are not making bigger and bolder stories. Just look at the first issue Scott is going to write for Superman. We're already going to read about the retconned version of the eradicator and learn even more about Krypton. The past 9 issues have only been safe and have not told any stories that could be added to Superman mythos, unlike what the batman books are doing. Honestly, After Gregg Hurwitz take over Batman, I have to say all the 5 batman books are in great shape. Its either attached to a critically acclaimed writer, a superstar writer or a critically acclaimed artist or superstar artist.
Also Detective Comics and Dark Knight both have achieved tons, creating new and returning villains, telling new stories with old villains, the storyline of 'tec is even being played out in Suicide Squad.
What has Superman achieved for 9 issues other than the suit? I honestly don't care about Helspont's 2 miserable appearance just for him to go back to being in the wildstorm universe part of DC. If only writers retconned Helspont such that his greatest enemy is Superman or tie him into Krypton or whatever, that would be bold and inventive. Except, this book became a place to showcase other characters that have nothing to do with supes.
If Batman books are all getting something, why can't they change things up and give Superman an A-list artist coupled with a writer that is bold?

David Finch is more responsible for switching the writers on Batman: The Dark Knight than DC editorial. And he switched it up because he knows that he's not a writer. And DC editorial is switching up the writers on Superman because they don't know how to treat the book.
 
Oh, and just for you folks who don't care enough to actually check (IE, the entirety of the human race minus me and sethypants), here's some quotes from one of the few legitimate reviews of Superboy #10, from IGN...

"Superboy #10 is actually worth looking at. Maybe not reading, but worth looking at."

"Almost everything positive I have to say about this issue is because of Sebastian Fiumara."

"His killer style is wasted on a title like Superboy...Somebody pull this guy off Superboy."

"The dialogue is not nearly as over done as it has been in the past. None of it is particularly good..."

BOTTOM LINE: WORTH IT

Superboy #10 takes a moment to get to speed, but once it does it is a good looking fun read that gets into the character. We have some great moments between the Wonder Girl and Superboy and we see him use the tactile telekinesis in another interesting manor, reminding us of his individuality in the Super family. Despite the initial stumble, Superboy #10 manages to earn itself a well-deserved 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Throughout the first 9 issues of Superboy I have wondered if the book would ever leave the confines of N.O.W.H.E.R.E. and move towards more independent adventures for the title character. Superboy #10 was a step in the right direction......

I'm not saying its good. But I'm saying at least we're introduced to new villains and impactful storylines. Stories that actually would add to the mythos of Batman.
'Tec gave us, a new love interest: Charlotte rivers, new villains, Dollmaker, tying into older villains like penguin and scarecrow. Then talons with Jeremiah Arkham, and new villain called Hypnotic, plus that explosive page of Joker's face being cut off which led into a story in Suicide Squad.
Batman TDK gave us cameos of Flash, Superman, Wonder Woman, and a new villain the white rabbit, which the storyline also tied to Clayface, Twoface, and a sold out 2 issue of Bane, then tweedledum and tweedledee and that issue with talons.

So yeah, they may or may not be good books, but at least they achieved something. They reintroduced old villains and created new villains that seems like in years to come, might possibly be added to Batman's rogue gallery.
So my question is, in comparison to 'Tec and TDK, what has Superman accomplished?

I'm not from there, so stop acting like a baby. Whatever it is, reviews didnt gave it terrible ratings. Even the IGN article gave it 6.5/10.
That is still much better than the reviews on the current Superman book. Besides, everyone knows IGN is not a trustworthy websites. They apparently *****ed about Injustice on things that didn't even pertain to the game. Smart people knows better than to trust anything from IGN.
But whatever, I'm just gonna start enjoying good books with great art while you can be left alone in the corner, "good people"
 
Just for the record, to answer the question of, "What has the 'Superman' book accomplished in 9 issues," the answer is that it has implied that Lois Lane knows that Clark and Superman are the same person.

So there's that.
