Here's Superman's "new" costume (variant cover for #39):

Well the belt and boots are an improvement, but those gloves and high collar...

But it's progress, right?

Those gloves are totally ridiculous, but other than that I really like it. Better than the original new 52 suit.

haha, i can't help but laugh. what is with those gloves? how hard is it to get things right. ugh, and we still have a collar. Now im starting to hope that its only a one time thing...

Improvement but still pretty awful, I hate that collar so much.

That artwork is horrendous. And gloves? Sheesh.

This is the correct answer.

Putting yellow on the belt and ditching most of Lee's pointlessly busy piping was smart but those glove-sleeves are dumb.

You know, i always kind of wonder what the process is for designing a suit or character. Like this one for example, does JRJR just draw something up and they just run with it? are there multiple drafts? Ideally I would think it would be cool if they contracted a handful of artists to come up with redesign ideas and they would try and pick out which would be the best one... I just don't trust the likes of Jim Lee and JRJR to have good taste when designing a new costume. How many people actually have a hand in it?

I kinda expected the high collar to stick around but I could really do without the fingerless gloves look. Other than that, I just don't get the appeal of John Romita Jr's art style. There's this one cover of Superman lifting something while drool pours out of his mouth and it looks like he has no eyebrows.

This was their chance to make him look more like the movies. The movies have 100x the reach of the comics and they're 100x more recognizable than the comics. Any company with any damn sense would make their character look more like the version that has been seen by 100x the people who have seen their comic book.

A few years ago I would've loved this design, I would've been in full support of it. On its own it's cool. But this a post-Avengers world man. You can't just think of Superman in his tiny little niche or his tiny little comic book medium, you have to think of him as a whole. They have to think how they can make him more accessible and more relatable to the movie crowd, and how he can be one recognizable icon.

Asides from the "gloves," I'm perfectly fine with this costume. While I would prefer a lower neck line, it's still a million times better than the high v-neck Lee's design had. I also approve of the new belt, the new boots, and fewer creases. Would like to see a return of the classic \S/ and undies, but this is a vast improvement.

The only things that really ever stay consistent about the original New 52 suit are the lack of trunks, the red piping on the collar and the wrists, the raised collar and v neck, the slumping belt with the diamond, the flat-topped notchless boots, and the black-on-red cape logo. The seams change from artist to artist, so really, the only thing you should expect to see when other artists draw the new suit are the new boots and belt. I'm willing to bet even the extended sleeves won't stick. And they aren't fingerless gloves, there's another picture of the suit and you can see it doesn't wrap around his hands.

In general, I think Ultraman is drawn a lot better. He doesn't have the spiky hair, angular face and slim frame Superman usually has in the New 52. But yeah, I'd really like the Ultraman suit with the traditional S symbol replacing the U, obviously.

I've never seen another picture. Where is it at?
