We live in a fickle movie goer world. IronMan hit over 500 mil worldwide. Ghost Rider hit over 200 mil worldwide. If Thor gets midway that'll be a good start, get the name out, then bust loose in dvd sales and rentals and at the same time hopefully can lead in to a good Captain America flick so Marvel is set for next year as well.

Are you all kidding? I know a ton of people who went to the cinema just because of RDJ. Our generation grew up with movies like Weird Science and of course Chaplin. RDJ might not have been on Brad Pitt levels but he was definatly the reason they went to the cinemas.

I'm not saying his popularity at the time had no impact on getting more people in to see Iron Man but I'd say his pre-existing popularity was negligible. Chaplin(while good) didn't exactly light the world on fire either and I'd say Weird Science was his best known movie(and he only had a minor role in that).

Collected all the comment from the British Press Screening tonight, all unanimously positive. Check here.

" @El_Duderino81 Think you've called this one right. Cap and GL will struggle to be as much fun as that"

"Thor - It has a great cast, confident direction and a solid, witty script. All in all, it's very entertaining"

"olly_richards Thought Thor was great. Branagh got tone spot on: treat Asgard seriously in its own world then make it silly on Earth. Pleasantly surprised. "

"pinkagedesign ABSOLUTELY LOVED #THOR. A must see, humour, action and great potential for an Avengers film. Do NOT leave until the credits done"

"iFlicks Great Odin's Raven, Thor was good!"

"spliggle Thor was, unsurprisingly, Thorsome. Not perfect but for what it was very entertaining"

"simonfromgosh Thor god of thunder - mighty indeed "

"Gchantler Just seen an early screening of Thor. Better than expected but to much cheese. Stay for for the end of the credits for an Avengers link 7/10 "

"Nica Thor was much better than I expected. Nice cameos too, and of course a massive post-credits teaser. Worth the trip to the cinema! "

" THOR was a lot of fun. Much better than I was expecting. Asgard bollocks ropey as hell, but the Earthbound stuff was great. Funny too

Agreed. RDJ was mostly known for his performance in Chaplin and his drug problems. He was known for film buff but really wasn't as known to the GA unless he was being mention on ET or any other gossip media.

It's the under 30 kids that didn't know of RDJ or only knew of his drug issues. The guy was always the charismatic rogue in the crap load of movies I saw him in growing up.

That may be true, but Iron Man was the movie that made RDJ an A-list actor. He wasn't an A-list actor before. If he was, he wouldn't had been only restricted to Indie roles or supporting roles in mainstream films.

You're absolutely right. People are kinda doing some revisioinist history on that. I thought RDJ was a brilliant choice, but the fact is in 2008, leading in to that film, he was a B-movie actor.

Now some people may have been intrigued by RDJ in that roll, and that may have played a part, but to say that in May 2008 people were drawn to see RDJ the way they would if he were starring in a picture today, is just not accurate.

I agree with the comments above regarding RDJ's performance. WOM about how great he was in IM was a huge factor in the film's success, but not RDJ's pre-existing popularity (which was negligible). There was a lot of buzz at the time about how he had resurrected his career with the performance.

heh I wondered what you were commenting on. lol

Yeah, it was from this tweet or comment or whatever it is:

"kevinknapman Yes it's occasionally silly but always good fun #iwantahorse #thor "

Maybe I should know why that is there, but I don't
