The Official Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers Thread

Welcome to SHH, video :D

Nice preview of T-Bolts #147. I'd want to stay on Man-Thing's good side, too.

Haha, yeah, Crossbones is like a human version of Ares in this comic. It's great. :D

Oh, Fixer. I can't even look at you anymore.

Whoa, that art is pretty awesome. Shelvey's really good.

Why is Luke hitting Danny with a trash can on the first page?

Ah, yeah, it does look like the costume changes after he's on the ground. I imagine that would've been much clearer if it were colored. :o

Thunderbolts #148 Preview

It's not bad, though. It seems Kev Walker's taking a break, but the fill in artist's fine.

As do I. I want to make sweet sweet love to it and Jeff Parker at the same time. :atp:

Juggs is still great. Him being weakened does suck, but thats kinda part of who Juggernauts been for the last 10 or so years now. Its not like its bad writing or anything. Juggs (atleast for the past 10 yrs) has been an anti-hero at worse, I cant even remember the last time Juggs was truly a "villian". Because he is more of just a conflicted soul as opposed to a villian, it makes sense that Cyttorak would weaken him at times, like when he was on the X-Men shortly after G. Morrisons run, or like he was in Excalibur. The more noble and "heroic" Juggs is the weaker he becomes. The Only reason Juggs went back to being "bad" was for noble reasons, so he could possibly stop the Hulk, but he had to sacrifice and go cause more destruction. It was only a temporary boost in power though because he didnt stay "bad" for long, eventually the Uni-Power chose him and he "passed". The way Juggs is now as a person, as sad as it is to say this, he should never be as powerful as he's been in the past when he was more of a "true villian".

If some writer, wrote Juggs to be as heroic as he's ever been and also write him to the power level of the Hulk or the Red Hulk, then thats bad writing. Juggs being weaker in Thunderbolts is a sign of good writing and continuity, and anybody who doesnt see that, just dont understand the Juggernaut.

Its like the Hulk being calm as librarian, yet being at his peak strength levels.

It's absolutely bad writing. Nerfing a character whose entire purpose is to be an unstoppable powerhouse is the very definition of bad writing. Doesn't matter if others join in on the fun for a few years. The Cyttorak thing is just a justification Tieri came up with to explain away his and Austen's inability to write a decent, full-power Juggernaut.

It's not even like he has to be a cuddly nice guy if he's a hero. Plenty of heroes demolish the hell out of all kinds of stuff in their attempts to stop evildoers. Gladiator's destroyed whole stars, for crying out loud, yet he's still classes as an antihero at worst. I'm sure Jugs could be a hero in such a way that Cyttorak's desire for destruction would still be sated, especially if he's throwing around the kind of power he ought to have. He'd be causing a lot of destruction by default, same as Thor or the Sentry or any of the other uber-powerhouse heroes.

It's not the characters problem if the writer can't create a situation where their enormous power isn't gonna instantly save the day. It's the writers failing.

It's kinda sad cuz I know Jeff Parker's better than that. But he's a good enough writer to make it entertaining despite the nerfing.

He handles Jugs' personality pretty well. He's a jerk but he's generally decent. Like during the Raft breakout, when he "helped" those other inmates escape... only to have them get the s*** stung out of them by the jellyfish security system he neglected to tell them about. :awesome:

Because Chuck Austen decided he's too terrible to write the Juggernaut properly and Frank Tieri figured he ought to explain that somehow. It's an artifice created by writers to cover for their own s***ty writing. :o
