Hickman's "Avengers"

I've never seen his art before so it was new to me. I thought it was gorgeous. Issue 12 was fantastic for an issue with no real action. I definitely prefer the team that was in this issue, and the last issue, over the team that dealt with Regina.

I'm a big fan of Opena and Deodato so they can switch off on this book all they want.

What I don't understand and it's starting to bug me more and more as time goes on, is why did the Avengers allow Ex Nihlo create these Origin sites all over the Earth? Well, I guess there was nothing they could do at the time to stop him, but why have they not gone to Mars to do anything about it.

Basically, I'm confused by their motivation here as they are coming off more as bystanders instead of heroes.

And Spider-Woman looks like she's a 7 foot tall Amazon there. Her and Spider-Man being basically Photoshopped into that panel says too me that Deodato and Hickman are not on the same page here and it further tells me that Deodato needs to go away. Hickman needs to work with artists that he can flow with because it becomes distracting.

Looks great. I'm loving me some Hyperion.

And yeah... Spider-Woman does like a giant. Puny Spidey!!!

Anyone else just can't take this storyline any more? The art is great but I had to drop this title. It was work trying to get through it every issue.

NO MAS.

OK, I know I harp on this a lot, so I apologize for bringin it up again
But is there really, honestly, anyone who looks at this image:

And thinks, "Oh my god, Cap looks perfect!"??

It's gotta be one of the ugliest costumes of all time, for any character
I'd rather Cap wear Squirrel Girl's costume
I love Opena, but goddam, that is some awful costume design

sorry, it's an honest question, but do people really like this and I'm the odd one out?
I know a few posters here agreed with me, but we still seem to be a very small minority

That's Stefano Caselli on art, not Opena. The design isn't the problem, it just looks awful there. Caselli's art has not been his best lately, I've noticed.

I know that's not Opena's art per se, but he did design the horrid new suit
and I have not seen a single artist make it look good
but yes, Caselli's version is particularly heinous

It's been awhile since we've seen something like that...

Yeah, that surprised me. Was that in reference to something going on in Iron Man's ongoing or something that we'll learn about later in New Avengers?

I haven't seen that scene yet in Iron Man. I'm assuming that it's from the near future after this current "Secret Origin of Tony Stark" arc ends.

The Watcher seems kinda small there. Though I guess he can change size...

Considering the Living Tribunal is probably the most powerful being in the universe, I'd say so. He can't be dead though. That would mean the instant end of the universe, wouldn't it.....?

How has been Hickman's run in Avengers? Is it as good as his run in The Ultimates? And are the issues bi-monthly?

I never read his Ultimates run. But I've enjoyed his stuff. Only the main Avengers title is twice a month. New Avengers is monthly.

Which comics does he write and do i need to read something else besides the stories he writes to understant the plot well?

Ugh, I'm already 99% certain that whatever the explanation is for why the Living Tribunal is f***ed up, it's not going to be good enough. Sort of like how Remender had the Apocalypse Twins casually murder a Celestial over in Uncanny Avengers. :o

And yeah, Cap's costume is terrible now. I like the helmet and the more armory look to his torso, but some artists just take it way over the top. He's still a superhero whose primary thing is crazy agility and finesse in fighting. Armoring him up like a tank is counterintuitive to that.

He writes Avengers and New Avengers. Soon he is writing the Infinity event.

I always loved the Epting version. Simple and perfect.

So I've been reading Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers and I have to say: 1) the art is fantastic and 2) the story is a nonsensical mess of ideas. I really have no idea what is going on in either series except that every issue is the "end of the world". There's zero character development and there's way too many characters to follow (particularly in Avengers). On top of that instead of using known villains he's much to busy make up a whole host of random beyond super powered characters.

Look I love Thanos and Infinity is supposed to be the payoff for both series' but if it doesn't get any better by then; I'm out.

The problem I see with Hickman's run on both titles is that mostly he introduces ideas then drops them and moves on without really ever going back to them. Cap's mindwipe, Ex Nihlo, the Garden sites, New Universe. He leaves way too much dangling.

I'm assuming it's all going to come together for Infinity but I'm afraid it's just going to end up being a jumbled mess. Things might get easily forgotten. It's all a little too much mystery. Claremont was the same way years ago.
