The Official TIH Preview Thread

I think that Get Smart, Kung Fu Panda, Wall. E an Adam Sandler movie and a Mike Myers movie is plently of competition for it. I don't think this movie has clear sailing till July. I mean there is a first time for everything but, with the exception of Little Nicky, and Adam Sandler movie usually equals a 100mil, Kung Fu Panda will undoubtedly make over 100mil and Wall E is probably looking at atleast Ratatouille numbers (205mil). Get Smart and the Mike Myers movie don't seem like locks to me but I could see them making quite a bit. Get Smart looks pretty funny to me so I think that it could surprise. I'm not saying that this is May 07 level competition but it's still competition.

Well, what I mean is there is no direct competition. As in, there is absolutely no (or is there?) action films or serious films for the month of June. Anyone looking for anything other than a comedy is kind of out of luck, and this is where Hulk will gain it's money.

Though, anything Pixar related is something to fear.

I think TIH will have a Ghost Rider-like opening weekend but have better legs. However, I don't see this movie at all crossing the 170 mill mark.

IMO the studio just doesn't seem confident in this movie. Doesn't mean that the movie isn't going to be good though, I just don't think that the studio is confident. I suppose that could be because the first one failed hard core despite having Oscar winning actors and an acclaimed director.

Oh, they're confident in their movie...just not confident in the audience being able to let them remove the stigma of Ang's version and get on with their own..

45 seems reasonable for opening weekend for a movie thats following a failure. If it's good I wouldn't doubt seeing it succeed as it doesn't really have much competition until July.

The only real obstacle here is convincing people this isn't the last one and giving it another go. Hulk is still a big name, and if a no-name like Iron Man blew out the Box Office you never know what could happen.

< AHEM!>...FORMER no-name, if you please. :im: :word: :cwink:

^Exactly. He seems to be bigger than Superman and Batman now in movieverse land anyway. i'm waiting to see how TDK does before I take that statment back.

The Hulk is a big name but I just don't think he's a popular one

Link please. But that sucks.

And you do realize that most big end fights are people just punching and kicking eachother? Now add the fact that they're the strongest beings on earth and can use the environment anyway they want to. It could last 2 whole hours and they could still be doing different things.

I'd have no problem with 15 minutes of straight duking it out like in that clip.

You don't think that if the first Hulk movie had been better/a more straight forward villain smashing comicbook movie that it wouln't have done atleast 200mil in 03 dollars? because I think that it would have, despite the fact that the early CGI in the trailers proably hurt it's opening weekend. And no 62mil aint bad but I think that early bad buzz took away atleast 15mil.

Exactly. The positive buzz that's beginning around TIH could reverse the damage done by Hulk.

I think that TIH will have an OK opening BO. Word of mouth will drive this movie. Mark my words this movie is going to be right up there with Iron Man. In my opinion :yay:

Will there be a sequel? You all know it will be dependent of the Box office take. The more hype they give this Movie the better. The comic book fans will go and see it but the others must be convince. Remember he mention the Leader. So, let's wait and see...

You have a very good opinion CJ .

Yes it would have done better, even possible 200mil or more. Ang Lee's Hulk was the first big-screen adapation and came at a time when comic-book movies were probably at an all time high. For the Hulk character, 62mil was great, but you're right the bad buzz killed it.

ya know..they are revealing WAY too much online. I'm not reading that article and I'm not watching those 2 new clips. I think I'm going to avoid that stuff until after.

lol yeah. G-d did I love that costume. And I'm still not really attracted to RDJ but they manged to make him kinda sexy in the movie.:o

My girl is attracted to RDJ AND ED, ugh... it's the summer of jealousy for Frostie, I miss watching movies with her like... Transformers, how could I be jealous of Shia. :oldrazz: OH! BURRRNN to a man that will make millions more than I will ever see... :csad::oldrazz:

I tend to agree. I'm seeing Iron Man numbers. Even given the memory of Hulk, I think this will have a bigger opening weekend than many expect. I think the massive play the new trailers and clips are getting are really helping establish this as a separate entity in audiences minds plus the fact you have an enormously popular and critically acclaimed actor in the starring role this time, which is a draw in itself.

I like what Leterrier said, he's a fan and the passion for the movie is there, which is very important for this kind of film, Iron Man's success is in part thanks to Favreau's passion for the character.
I won't be surprised if the movie has a big opening, the marketing Hulk-blitz has started, we have some good reviews already, the movie has plenty of badass action and seems to have the emotional ingredient (like the TV series) to connect with people, plus the music score should be great with Craig Armstrong, word of mouth should be good too. Time will tell, but in life anything can happen, expect the unexpected.
