Thanks... I know that your motives aren't to show just how much more TW is looking like Supes, but these caps are particularly good at showing that off.

Are you softening on your anti-Welling ways?

Just because I don't want Welling for Superman doesn't mean I don't think the guy does a good job on the show. He's good, he's the highlight...next to Michael Rosenbaum.

Besides, the TW wars are over...until I hear about petitions. ;)

Now, I bet he couldn't button up the top button on that shirt, and still swallow! Yep, better to have it unbuttoned... :p

Michael Rosenbaum gets the best lines, I swear. He's AWESOME.

I was just teasing, you know me... ;)

Thanx to Devoted to Smallville Webpage

Great photos!

So...

Anyone see something interesting in the fact that a new USA Today article this morning on Superman and BR, and hours before we have someone named "Bryan Singer" patrolling these boards, coupled with the new member "Smallville" on those pesky Superman boards...

Looks to me like a little bit of... "damage control"...

;)

Of course they'd be patrolling the boards and putting out articles even if Tom had been cast - i'd expect nothing less, whether they want to do some damage control or not.

As much as most of us think Tom would be a good choice (Myself included - I can think he'd be good without wanting him to do it, yes?), I suspect there'd be a fair amount of damage control to do with him, too. Lots of people would rather slit their wrists than watch him on the big screen wearing the tights...

Don't you think the USA Today article convienently leaves TW out? Why do you think they did that?

And on a side note, I've noticed an interesting trend of former SV guset stars attaching themselves to gigantic hit shows. To wit: Adam Brody ("Crush") goes on to star status on The OC, Ian Somerhalder (Adam) is on the uber-hit "Lost" and Jesse Metcalf ("Extinction") is on the cultural phenomenon that is Desperate Houswives. If SV were on a major net, do you think it would be as huge as these other shows? And do you think TW would be as popular as, say, Adam Brody? Coz each of those guys couldn't hold Welling's jockstrap when they were on Smallville.

I just don't see this kind of "damage control" effort working. Too little. Too late.

Is it possible Warners has grossly underestimated the scope of the reaction to the casting? Seems like it. And do they honestly think leaving out Tom's name in the list won't be obvious? Even my boss commented, "What about that guy from Smallville?" (I was suprised because my boss fits more into the "general public" than he does in the "fan" category).

James and you are right, Ardy (mind me calling you that?). There would be "a fair amount" of damage control no matter what the situation...

But I think you've also "got something" with your second point...

That's their current dillemna -- 1. run Smallville through or beyond its initial planned run (five) and risk collective public reaction to preview trailers (for Superman) of: "Huh? Why isn't it the guy from Smallville?" Or 2. Take Smallville off the air asap and run the risk of alienating certain Supes fans, and people losing "touch" with the character, or him dropping out of "public consciousness".

Then again, many people argue that #2 is what franchises like Trek need, but with this situation, no matter what decision is taken, people are going to be angry. It is difficult. They know this.

It IS a conundrum. Obviously, my vote would be to leave the show on the air to keep Superman prevalent in the mind of the public. It IS the same parent studio that owns both props too, so they can capitalize on cross marketing if they play their cards right. Life deals ya lemons; make lemonade.

That said, there WILL be people still questioning why Welling isn't in the film. This will be the case *regardless* of what they choose to do with the series and when. In a way, Sage was right when he said it probably would have been easier if they axed the show in its second or third seasons. Now, fans are used to seeing "Clark" look more like Superman than ever. And he CLEARLY isn't a kid anymore, no matter how much makeup they cake on his mug in the show...

Agreed. Plus with the way his character is being written in season 4 and the wonderful portrayal by Tom, he is showing more "Supermanly" characteristics this season than ever before.

Just wondering if they have put a moratorium (spelling?) on Tom making any public guest appearances on talk shows and such due to the fans' outcry (and subsequent disappointment) over this Superman casting debacle.

I need to read the USA today article. I don't believe for a minute they would need damage control if they cast Tom except for a few internet geeks people overwhelmingly wanted him. I will tell you one thing though if for some reason those rumors are true about Routh being gay it will be an all out war. I swear that gay marriage was the reason Kerry lost. It's like an all out culture war. My country scares me. If you don't believe me morals on exit polls outranked the economy and terroism and Clinton urgerd Kerry to come out agaisnt it. Sorry I had to rant.

That rumor about Routh being gay was false, I believe.

And my gosh just look at him. Not drooling (well trying not to) but he just has the look. I just watched Jinxed, and oh my gosh, I am sorry, but Singer made a mistake. Sage go ahead and flame me and anybody else but I am putting that out there. Big Mistake.

Sniff, I smell a manip coming on.... Thanks for posting this, someone at K site was begging me to do another, I had a superman photo in mind but no Tom head for it. I think this is perfect. btw, anyone know where I can find a decent quality photo of Zod? everyone I have found pretty much blows.

Is it just me or does his skin color look different alot. Personally I like him darker. He looks darker in that one above. Is it lighting or what? I know he's forbidden fron tanning.

Forbidden? That's odd....probably because his invulnerable kryptonian flesh wouldn't be affected by the sun. :D

I'm not flipping out anyone, but I think your pointing the finger at the wrong person.

the Texas board of Education just ruled that health textbooks should state that marriage is between a man and a woman. Our country is taking being "PC" to a whole new level....

See the article here: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=5&u=/ap/20041105/ap_on_re_us/textbooks_marriage

This whole anti-Gay thing is getting out of hand, but it could possibly have implications for the film.

I agree that if it does turn out that Routh's gay, the gay-coding rumor will come back up and there will be a maelstrom around Routh that he may not survive.

Gay or not, do you think that if there's any hint that Singer will be inserting Gay coding into this film that Warner's will let him get away with it in this current anti-gay climate?

I don't think so...

HUZZAH!! It's been a while. Look at it this way Mutt, while the reasons for making Welling manips might seem less practical now, there's no reason *not* to make 'em. He IS still playing the character after all. ;)

btw, anyone know where I can find a decent quality photo of Zod? everyone I have found pretty much blows.
No clue. Maybe somebody in the Supes' forum can dig one up for you?

Looks to me like he's wearing foundation for the interview. Could be the lighting or the capture itself, though his skin seems too perfect and evenly colored. Iz probably make-up.

Yep they said Superman can't tan. So they orderd him to stay out of the sun. Plus with his complexion I imagine he can get pretty dark. Oh well he'll have great skin when he's older.
