Tom's a very smart man and a very prepared actor. Many have said how well prepared he always is, it's one reason he's such a good director: he plans everything out.

Back in the earlier seasons when Christopeher Reeve had guest starred in the show, it would have been too soon. Christopher Reeve was right: Clark then wasn't anywhere close to being Superman.

Now, that is decidedly not the case so I think him reading comics now actually makes sense.

Although I don't think that it's a given, I think he's smart enough to use any tools he can find to help craft his character. He's a very intellectual actor, even if he doesn't have a college eduction, many of his costars have said how smart he is and he loves to talk about a wide ranging variety of topics.

So I think him talking to Phil Morris, who is a lifelong fan of comics, about his character in comics gives us enough of a hint that maybe he does read them now.

He may very well read comics nowadays for all we know...
Phil Morris said months ago that he and Tom discuss Superman and comic book related stuff in conversation. If I'm not mistaken Phil also said that Tom came to him and said "I didn't know you were the most powerful guy (meaning MMH) next to Superman. You and that other guy... (meaning Captain Marvel)." So he must have some knowledge knowadays. I think after all these years he may have become a bigger fan of the character and researched it online or maybe even bought some comic books.

Interesting... do you have the source to read the whole interview? Thanks! ;)

Tom's obviously no moron. I'm guessing if he's not reading comics, he's at least taking the time to check Wikipedia or something for character background on his own character and probably any new characters the show runners suggest bringing aboard.

It not only helps his character, but how he should be reacting in certain scenarios to different characters.

What? Tom Welling did an interview? heh

Wonder this have to do something with his new contract. More appearances/interviews this past couple months than in the past few years....

but good interview! we need more!

Nice HQ image. I still would have loved to see if the S shield was a patch instead of the spray paint look they went with. But i hope storywise in the episode it is explained why it looks like it does.

my leather jacket is similar to Clark's except it isn't as long.

it does look good in motion. Cant wait to see how it all plays out over the season.

well thats cool he gots his own production company going now. That is probably area he wants to get into once smallville ends. Though it sounds like this show is probably going to be like a top model/***** cat girls type of show. Unless its more of a documentary type of show.

Someone's got a new job title.... :)

According to this article in Variety, Tom has his own production company and he's developing a new show for the CW.

At the CW, Murphy is adapting the book "Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders" through Warner Bros. TV and Welling's production shingle, Tom Welling Prods.

The book, written by Kate Torgovnick, is a real-life account of the world of collegiate cheerleaders. Torgovnick followed teams from Stephen F. Austin U., Southern U. and the U. of Memphis as they went from tryouts to the national championships.

"I read the book, got halfway into it and said, 'We have to do this,' " Murphy said. "It's a group of people that for them, it's all about winning. Any time you have a series about people who want something desperately, it's fodder for a fantastic soap opera."

Murphy will exec produce with Welling and A.J. Marcantonio, who heads up Welling's company.

Murphy said he imagines the show as a cross between "Election," "Saved" and "Heathers."

She's a playboy bunny turned wife of a footballer (I think) and they follow her life around.

Needless to say, it's not my cup of tea and unfortunately, that's what this new project of Tom's sounds like.

:wow:

Although, I do wish him luck.
