You are speaking my language... ;)

I heard a quote recently, which may make *some* people happy (and others not so). Some of you may recognize it...

"I hear they're going to reference Smallville a bit..."

Now, keen-eyed peeps may know where I saw this -- it is recent -- but what I will also say is that I have "heard" this, in one form or another, around the old water coolers recently...

What form may this take? Well, that's up to you to dec -er- debate...

;)

Are you willing to throw out some possibilities for us to debate about? I'm not too good at criptic suggestions, but love the element of hope for our choice!

This man's been infected by Joker toxin!:eek:

I guess it depends on what form it would take. For example, a Welling/Clark Kent cameo in BB is a nice homage. It's a wonderful way of acknowledging a mutual fan base by recognizing their chosen hero without stepping on the toes of Batman fans, or throwing continuity off for the future Superman film.

Now, I EXPECT a few references to Smallville (the town) in Singer's film. I EXPECT Lois to call Clark, "Smallville" a few times. That sort of stuff is canon now. What I wouldn't necessarily expect - but would welcome nonetheless - would be to see something like a photo of Chloe in Lois' apartment, somewhere in the background. Or perhaps show Lois wearing that silver and turquoise bracelet from Skinwalkers. THOSE are cleaver homages to the SHOW if they chose to do it. It doesn't step on any toes because those items are just wardrobe, props and set decoration - something that would have to be done anyway. Casual viewers wouldn't notice such things, but sharp-eyed SV fans would squeal with glee.

As to how in bloody hell they could shoehorn *anything* Welling-related into the film without TOTALLY pissing off SV fans is beyond me. Any reference to him, even a cameo of him buying groceries in the background, could be seen as rubbing it in fan's faces: "Nyah nyah, he's in the movie, but he's not Superman. [raspberry]" See my point?

May I laugh at the notion that he'd be likely to do that anyway? ;)

No doubt!! And good point. But we're just talking hypothetically here.

What kind of homages (if any) would you like to see in the film, James? Or better question - assuming that there WILL be one or two, what would you expect to see?

What would I *like* to see? Not overly fussed to be honest. What do I expect? I think they'd be more likely to take a few of the things that Smallville has altered/created for the mythos, like the 8 symbol etc., rather than really referring to Smallville in a blatant way such as having a cameo.

Wouldn't the 8 symbol be more of a homage to the comics than the show? It is from Post-Crisis, representing the House of El I believe.

Sure, but the \8/ has been DRILLED in SV. Every time they show a set of Kryptonian symbols, you can bet dollars to donuts there will be at least one "8" in the set. It's been shown burned into Clark's chest in four different episodes over the course of two seasons. And he's now wearing that number on his football jersey. If the 8 is shown at all (I bet it will be), *most* people who have a clue will probably think Smallville. I can't see the general public going, "Hey, isn't that the symbol from the House of El?" LOL!!! :p

Ah, good point.

Luckily they won't use the real \S/ on SV, or else people would start thinking that it's from Smallville too. :p

Just kidding. :D

Hey, you guys seen the new photos from Bound?

Got some good ones....

Yeah, both K-site and DTS have 'em up already. I like the crossed-arm stance. You cant pick up a Superman comic w/o seeing at least one of those poses. It's almost a trademark. (Dean Cain went overboard with it though LOL)

LOL! Yeah, he did.

Sigh. Those Supermanly poses just make me wonder even more, why he isn't the movie Superman. THAT's what's truly Unbelievable.
:(

I'm still thinking on the preferred references to Smallville idea, but so far I'm pretty much in agreement with what AgentPat said. Unobtrusive references that would be blatant glaring things to Smallville fans, but that someone who hasn't seen Smallville wouldn't necessarily notice...Sort of similar to John Landis' "see you next Wednesday" line that comes up in most of his films...

Maybe Lois could even "inherit" the wall of wierd and comment on it offhandedly, ie:

Jimmy or Perry (to Lois, while looking at Lois' office wall): "What IS that MESS?"
Lois: "Oh that. I sort of 'inherited' it from my cousin. She was into those off-the-wall stories. I find it inspirational."

Something like that... :)

From what I've observed in other threads, "they" seem to be fishing to see if people would like a cameo from TW. While I wouldn't like to 'rob' TW of a cameo if that's all he felt up to schedule-wise, it is a touchy thing because it will be a glaring example of 'what could have been'. Thousands of fans have seen or hoped for, or argued for TW in the title role. He's inspired very passionate discussions regarding casting, (for or against, people are still talking about him in relation to the title role). I'm thinking putting him on the screen for a brief moment would really make people wonder what the heck went on that meant he's not the one in the tights--especially if he comes across better than Brandon in look, acting or charisma, or all three...

Hey, maybe that would be something....put them both on the screen at the same time and let people compare to their hearts' content. j/k... (I think Brandon has enough to contend with, already). Lol.

Better yet, let TW have a really LONG cameo... :) like an hour worth of lines, and get him that blue suit from wardrobe... Lol. That would appease a lot of fans. (Sure, it would irk *some* fans, but there'd still be more people talking about the movie, or at least caring more about how it all goes down.)

This may be just spite talking, but part of me would just be weirded out to hear anything referencing something from Smallville the TV series.. coming out of Routh's mouth or even unobtrusively indicated in the new movie. Know what I mean? It just wouldn't be right. I don't want to hear anyone but Welling as Supes talking about the "Wall of Weird." They aren't using Welling, so my feeling is that they've lost the rights to use anything from the Smallville series universe.. where Welling is Clark/Supes. There is plenty of comic book Smallville canon for the movie to use without treading into the TV series territory.

The things that are specific to the TV series shouldn't be part of a movie that Welling isn't starring in. I would find it too bizarre to see Routh commenting on the "Wall of Weird" or making Chloe references.

Ok... I've got a bit of a cold, however. I'll see what I can do.

I'd rather see a homage to the movie in Smalville. Remeber in that one Arnold movie where he sees a poster of Stalone, flexs then laughs at Stalone in comparison. Yep that's what I'd like to see.
