I don't know, I think this one will be different (if going by Carpenter's recent track record) because it wasn't Carpenter's idea to remake The Fog, the idea was pitched to him by Wainwright.
I also liked how Debra Hill described the fog becoming a character in the new film, sounds creepy...
I think that is one thing that the original film only hinted at and is a great concept they can really expand upon in this new film. Especially given what they can do with the FX nowadays.
