The Official Tom Welling Thread

Carpenter's remakes and movies has not been all the good lately. I think Welling should have went for a thriller/drama of sorts to push his acting and to kill off any trace of typecasting like play a villian or someone eccentric/complicated. No offense but way too many young (as in mid-late 20s) actors are hitting the cliché horror scene nowadays.

I don't know, I think this one will be different (if going by Carpenter's recent track record) because it wasn't Carpenter's idea to remake The Fog, the idea was pitched to him by Wainwright.

I also liked how Debra Hill described the fog becoming a character in the new film, sounds creepy...

I think that is one thing that the original film only hinted at and is a great concept they can really expand upon in this new film. Especially given what they can do with the FX nowadays.

Also gotta remember that whatever Welling *does* choose to accept, he's gotta be able to do it during SV's hiatus - and it appears he prefers a shoot in Vancouver since he's living there now. If James is right (and with James, I can't think of a time he's ever been wrong LOL), Welling has had a LOT of scripts come across his desk, so I guess he's being picky for comfort as well as looking to establish a leading man image. But whatever the reason, I'm glad he's not playing a kid anymore, and I'm glad that he will have the opportunity to lead a major motion picture. This is just the start. It's all good.

James is certainly going to get a complex...

For my part I think Tom's choosing this particular movie has a lot to do with the shooting location and scheduling; no, he wouldn't do it if he hated the idea, but at the same time it's not like he'd find it easy to do something that was shooting in Poland. Or Australia.

Bearing in mind that he'd have maybe six weeks before the SV team come-a-calling for him again? I won't say it won't happen, but really... I wouldn't hold out any hope for it.

I've also noticed he has a lot of problems deciding what to do with his hands while playing Clark. He tends to hold his hands together.

One noob actor trait he needs to lose, sad to say... He's doing better with that, however, but it depends strongly on the circumstances of the scene.

Back when I was acting, I had the same problem....

I completely agree...he looks so unnatural when he holds his hands to his sides; most likely because he is most comfortable moving them about when he is speaking.
