Kal, *try* to see this Clark as representing just another time in Supes' life, just like Dean Cain's version was the "latest" version. What do I mean by that? Well, Cain's Superman was actually MARRIED to Lois Lane. What other live action Superman has made it that far? See my point? I know I'm stating the obvious, but Welling's "Superman" is just young Clark Kent before he's known to the world as Superman. He's still portraying the same character though. He's not Superboy; Superboy wore a costume. When Welling's Clark finally dons the suit, he'll be called Superman, not Superboy.
I agree with this one. My only reasons why I say he isn't Superman is because although he looks like Superman he doesn't act like Superman. He is about 20 years old or 21 and I don't know I just think he doesn't act like how Superman would or even how Superboy would. To me I feel this Clark is more or less like a person from Sky High a teen with powers, not Superman. Though I dont blame Welling for that because I have faith he could be a great Superman I just blame the writing.

On a side note I think SV fans will be happy to know that SV is infact part of the movie
In SR when they tell how young Clark got his powers it is just like SV only he learns to fly sooner. Also he gets his heat vision from looking at Lana instead of a hot teacher.

That's excatly how I feel too. He doesn't act like SUPERMAN

I agree :supes:

Thats my problem they have a year or two at the most for him to do a complete 360 and I mean being Superman doesn't come over night it takes time and we have yet really seen Clark accept what or who he really is. I mean we have yet to see Clark become a leader. The leader of all heroes. Thats my main problem with the show is that this is a story about how he became Superman and I have yet to see what makes him Superman. Sure he saves people but thats not all Superman is and Clark has yet to show that. He looks at being Kal-El and having powers more of a curse then anything else. But hey as I said before I am taking SV for what it is and that is another telling of Superman.

Tom does a great job in his preformance with what he's giving to work with by the writters, But He hasn't shown me yet he's worthy of having The title SUPERMAN yet .

would a rose by any other name smell as sweet?

No, but I wouldn't mind visiting someday. My father was stationed there as an MP there during the Korean War. I think Squatlow does a lot of business in Germany. I'd be interested to hear what his take is on the show's popularity there since he spends a lot of time on both continents.

Hee! I don't know if that's good or bad. I never understood the popularity of Hasselhoff, but then I never watched Babewatch either; I only know him from Knight Rider, and that was eons ago. He's in his 50's now, if I'm not mistaken (not that that's "old" or anything. :p )

There was a story I once read about Welling in Italy. Not sure how accurate it is - maybe James can fill in the blanks or debunk the story if it is heretical, but it happened a few years ago. Was probably around SV's 2nd or 3rd seasons. It might have even been the start of Tom's realization that the world is indeed a "small" place. 'Cause if you're the star of a popular television show, people are gonna recognize you no matter where you go, even if it's in the middle of St. Peter's Sq. in Italy. My understanding is, he "attracted" the attention of quite a few fans there. LOL

"Jeepers Ms. Pat, what happened?" <in best Jack Larsen Jimmy Olsen voice>

On second thought you probably shouldn't answer that... sigh...
Boy, you go away to Brussels and western Germany for a few days and the she-ite really hits da fan.

Speaking of da fan...Being in Europe during the World Cup Finals iz jest nutz. Today (for those who follow) Germany beat Costa Rica. Now keep in mind I'm currently in Brussels and the car horns were blaring, the fans were screaming and the German flags were EVERYWHERE. Crazy time I tell ya.

To the matter at hand (and sorry for the late reply). To say that Tom Welling is big in Germany (and actually quite a bit of Europe) is an understatement. My unscientific poll reveals many are not aware that umm, there was this ummm, different...ummm...direction in the ummm...casting process...um...for a certain movie...uhh...that didn't involve a certain actor that they know and really like and that there is a certain amount of confusion over the current trailer of a certain movie in that it has this other cast in it...y'see.

Now speaking strictly about SV (cause I have no idea what I meant above)...

TW is seen as Superman here because of SV, and he is a hot property in Germany. I mentioned before that the German voice over was reasonably close to TWs voice timbre, but the hard 'konsonants' of Deutch make me smile when I catch it on TV. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I have this picture of 'Klark' leaning over Lana and saying "you vill zit und you vill liszen to mein story und you vill belief it und you vill not zee zis Lex perzon again or zumone vill haf reason to regret; und zat is all I vill zey on ziz. Iz klear, ja?"

Anyway, all kidding aside. SV is very popular, but TW is a major star and is very recognizible. I'd say that's true over most of Europe. And yes, I do ask people. I'm old enough to not care if they think its a strange question from a 53 year old.

PS - Hope you're back soon, Patty me friend!
:)

I found this article over at DTTW.

http://www.devotedfansnetwork.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19689

The current issue of the French magazine, StarClub, features an interview with Tom Welling (June 2006, #223). A picture of Tom from the Smallville episode “Spell” is included also.

When asked what Tom has learned from doing Smallville, Tom replied: "self-confidence". Tom further stated that, as a beginner in the business, he had a feeling of inferiority, but now that has been replaced by self-confidence. Tom talked about his successful four-year marriage, and said it still works because both he and Jamie respect each other’s work.

Tom also said this about his marriage: He and Jamie devote their time to themselves, and it helps that they are both stay-at-home people. Asked about how he treats his wife he replies that he is both the gentle protector and "macho". He enjoys the differences between men and women. Asked further about kids, Tom says that he is not concerned with it. Besides, except for the summer hiatus he would be the worst of fathers due to his lack of time.

Asked what he thinks about being regarded as one of the sexiest actors around, Tom replies that whatever he says will be the wrong thing. If he affirms it, people will rightfully call him pretentious. If he denies it, they will say that he spoils the fun. But the fact that it's part of human nature to be flattered by compliments also applies to him.

He was also asked how much of himself he recognizes in Smallville. He said: it would not be a first degree resemblance, but still quite a bit.

Id like to see Welling's next role be a drastic change from his Clark Kent persona, possibly the villian of a film. I just don't want him to get typecast and have no future, I think he has talent it just needs to be showcased right.

At least you're calling it an article, not an interview. Interview implies he had something to do with it. Those are all old quotes, poorly translated and compiled into an "interview" format - just like in most of the French magazines that I've ever seen. That's why I rarely bother with French magazines any more. The only thing they're usually good for is the nice pictures ...

I just read on another messsage board that TW was spotted in Marthas Vineyard just the other day (according to the Boston Herald). Working out at a gym, actually. So, maybe he's vacationing and thats why he won't be attending the SR premiere.

:)

Hehehehe... I just got an urge to take a roadtrip to the Winnetu. :D

My SIL hits Edgartown every summer. Bet she's there now too.  ;)

The article was on Tuesday, and it's just one of those star-spotting sidelines. It literally amounts to "Smallville stud Tom Welling pumping iron in Martha's Vineyard. Well, he is Superman ..."

Nothing new unless you're a stalker. Tom visits there all the time, and he has to work out somewhere unless he's aiming to get fat(ter). ;) :p

If y'all haven't picked up the latest SV mag, do so immediately. There's some wonderful articles and aye-mayzing photos in it. I love the one of Welling directing on page 13. Mmmmm... big burly man in Dean Cain pose LOL. Seriously though, he looks great!

good to know he's working out
He sort of HAS to considering the character he plays, though I get the impression he probably enjoys it as well. It's very addicting.

Delaware newspaper thinks Welling should run for office!

Tom Welling: Best know for playing Clark Kent on the TV series Smallville, Welling spent his adolescent years in Hockessin. Who better to run for political office than Superman? (Side note: If you look hard enough on the Internet, and I have, you'll find a map of the DC Comic Universe in which Superman's other hometown, Metropolis, appears to be located somewhere around Lewes.)
