What people don't understand is that Bay only cares about the bottom line and nothing else. That's bad. By comparison, someone like the Wachowski brothers at least show some effort. Speed Racer wasn't all that good but there was effort. They failed but they tried to make something unique. Bay is more like the EPIC MOVIE guys

STAR TREK back in the 90's and even the 60's was kinda lame too ya know. It has a fanbase that is often made fun off and it seemed that it was a dead franchise. Then JJ Abrams happened, sure some of the fans were pissed but he reinvigorated the franchise and made it relevant

I think it's only bad if you don't produce results...Bay has produced and he makes no bones about it. I loved Speed Racer by the way, have it on DVD

and focussed on characters no one cares about.

Are we talking about the human leads? I think human leads are necessary to be honest, Shia always talks about the heart of the franchise and at the end of the day he's right. Maybe the human characters have been written badly at times but they are still very important. They are what helps the general audience connect with the Transformers on an emotional level.

and two hours of nothing but live action robots, good characterization or not, isn't going to put asses in seats

at least not 300 million opening weekend level of asses in seats

I was kind of joking...but on the comics, seriously no one I knew even knew there were Transformers comics...I didn't even know about them until after the Marvel run had finished

you could line up 10 fans, Id be willing to bet you a shiny nickel that 7 out of those 10 were not aware of the comic books

That's true. The majority of people's exposure to TF was the cartoon and now the movies. The comics have never been in the same level as Superman, Batman, X-Men, etc.

and then there are the psycho Beast Wars fans...those guys scare me

It should have just been Sam, Mikaela and the Transformers
Screw the Military and Government! They should just be faceless goons who have to have their asses saved by the Autobots instead of the other way around

then Bay or Paramount don't get the access they do if they want to use them for another film...I agree it is BS, but if you want to get good military cooperation, you have to kiss their ass a bit

What? You mean to tell me that if a movie requires military equipment on screen then there exists a clause that requires the filmmakers to shoehorn in a whole government/military related plot and show then defeating the bad guys even if THEY ARE ROBOT ALIENS FROM OUTER SPACE?

you're not far off....watch the commentary on the first Transformers film and Bay talks about the relationship with the military and how in discussions with them as to what they might need for the film, how the military would react to a given situation

good example...the scene with Scorponok...where the guys are in the AWAC coordinating....none of that is written, he just gave them the scene of what was happening on the ground and the staff there did their thing

Yes but that doesn't mean the protagonists have to be military guys
Lennox and friends were waste of space in movie 2 anyway

It also doesn't mean that the military suddenly gains a GIANT LASER OF DOOM!
Seriously, a rail-gun? When are the Metal Gears coming Mr. Army Man?

No...but the military isn't going give their time, personnel, and equipment to look like *****es either

I agree with you, just to remind you

isn't there some filming going to happen soon in chicago?

HEEELLLLSS YEA DR LEE

not sure when though, anyone wanna fill us in? I need to head up there for that

I know there are some crater props in Chicago atm... think it may be this weekend or next

Lennox is probably one of the few characters in both films that nobody can really hate.

And just putting this out; who would you prefer to direct Transformers: Bay or M. Night Shaylaman?
