The Official Vertigo Thread

Dammit, I refuse to read the book until issue 8 comes out. And I really want to read the damn book already.

It wasn't really anything special, in my opinion. I went in thinking Morrison would do something balls-to-the-wall insane with it, but it turned out to be a fairly generic fantasy story.

It's fairly simple fantasy story but it's still a good simple fantasy story. Also, Sean Murphy's art is fantastic.

Hmm, well, it says it's a one-shot. Probably means it'll be on an irregular schedule. Should be pretty good, though.

Damn, that looks interesting.

Picked up the Daytripper trade. Was hoping for a deluxe version, or at least a HC (c'mon, American Vampire got one!), but it still looks pretty, and 20 bucks for 10 issues, I can live with that.

Amazon.com: What about Seaguy?
Grant Morrison: The final volume of Seaguy, which I’m actually working on right now and it wraps up the story--that’s actually my favorite thing I’ve ever written.
Amazon.com: Wow.
Grant Morrison: By the time it comes out, I’m hoping people might agree [laughs]. No one’s quite agreed yet.

Oh, there's a little bit about Joe the Barbarian in there, but nothing on a release for the last issue.

I believe Murphy has handed in his artwork for the last issue.

First I've heard about it. I knew they resolicited it for March, but it dropped off DC's website again not very long after that. Last I heard Murphy was waiting on the script, but it's not something I've kept up with that closely.

From the man himself:

Hey everyone. Just want to clear up any confusion about what I'm working on lately:

Joe the Barbarian has been finished for about 3 weeks. The art was turned into the printer last week, so the book will come out in March as currently scheduled. Thanks for putting the word out to those people who think the delays are me and not the writer.

I'll be starting a 5 issue mini of American Vampire with Scott Snyder in March. Really excited about this one. Scott and I are drinking buddies and have tossed some ideas around for story and it's going to be a killer series.

Punk Rock Jesus is a book I'm doing for Vertigo. Because Vampire hasn't started yet, I'm working on PRJ for now. Once Vampire is over, I'll finish the rest of PRJ for (hopefully) a 2012 release. PRJ and Vampire will fill my entire 2 year contract with DC.

And here's the description of PRJ for those who don't know:

In the year 2019, a major broadcasting company creates a new reality show of Jesus Christ by cloning him from the Shroud of Turin. As the show continues through the years, mayhem ensues between different types of viewers: the fanatical Christian right who want the clone dead, politicians worried about the power Jesus might have over voters (one day), and scientists who think the whole thing is a lie. Eventually the show collapses and the young clone has a breakdown when the show "eliminates" his mother because of dropping ratings. He rejects all the lies he's been told, becomes as atheist, runs away, and fights the power by starting a punk band called The Flack Jackets. His bodyguard is the main character in this whole epic—and ex IRA terrorist who notices an alarming amount of similarities between the clone's struggle and his own struggle against the oppression of Northern Ireland during the 1980s.

That's it for now. I'll keep posting PRJ once a week, so enjoy.

Ah, okay, cool. I wasn't as into the series as a lot of others were, but I it was good enough that I'd like to see it finish so close to the line.

I wonder why it's dropped from DC's website, though?

Just in case they didn't get it done, so they're keeping it off until officially confirmed?

Recently read We3, damn, that upset me, but I still want the deluxe edition dropping in June.

Great news for Seaguy. I'm wondering that they're just going to release one giant trade when it's all finished. I'm hoping since they haven't released anything for two yet.

Yeah, they probably will, since the first two were just three issues apiece, and the third will probably follow suit. Probably start with a Deluxe HC, then a TPB. Though, I don't know, Seaguy sold so poorly, they may skip straight to TPB.

I'm gonna have to read all of Seaguy in one sitting someday. I don't feel like I understood the previous volumes at all.

Well, heads up for those who've had their eye on it, looks like Joe the Barbarian #8 has finally been solicited on the Diamond List for March 2nd. Strangely, though, it is still completely absent from DC's website.

Translation: "We told Diamond it'd be out soon to get 'em off our back, but don't hold your breath." ;)

I think originally, when on DC's website, it was set for the same date, buy your assessment is probably more accurate.

I guess I'm going to have to check that series out sometime. I never hear anything but good things about it.

Roberson on I, Zombie.

Pretty standard interview stuff, but there's some interesting tidbits. Apparently, Roberson didn't actually expect to work with Allred; he mentioned that he'd like someone like Allred (meaning he never existed such a high profile creator would care enough to pay attention to him), but Allred dug what he read for the story and did it.

Gilbert Hernandez will do a fill-in for issue 12 (I think that's a new detail). That should be interesting to see.

He promises in issue 13 things will 'go nuts'.

Also,
"I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to do it, but I burn for the chance to bring on a big, giant, mutated kaiju monster at some point!"
