The Dark Knight Rises The Official "What Do YOU Want in the Sequel?" Thread

All I want is Penguin done right. Oswald is a mobster like Falcone and Maroni, but he is smarter than the Gotham gangsters and relies on manipulation rather than relying on the corruptness of the city. Cobblepot can remain in the public having the image of a good man. He can also undermine Bruce at some gala or something (the Gotham upper class in one place).

As for him dealing with Batman, he should notice that these freaks and weirdos like Joker are occupying Batman AND the cops. So he could order some men to let all of the crazies loose at Arkam for a simple distraction, where as all of the petty thugs see themselves as beneath the Batman's notice. And heck, why rob a bank when you could rob a museum of fine art?

I also want to see more of Bruce's life, the "high class society" he has to be forced to be around would be a welcome addition. You could also include Catwoman and Black Mask's alter egos in that group.

No villain is dull if done right. Just like every villain is dull if done wrong.

Catwoman is the least dull. As is Riddler. Black Mask and Penguin would serve more like Maroni and Falcone did in TDK and Begins. Wouldn't have huge parts, but they'd have parts nonetheless. Talia's inclusion would be more or less a cameo. Just a hint at things that were or things that may come later.

I think it's a bit too late to introduce Lezlie Thompkins in this series. If anything, she should have been hinted at in Begins, and given a small yet significant role in TDK. But by now? Little too late.

Joker really shouldn't be too heavily used in this movie. Not because I think it would be disrespectful to Heath, but because I just think it's time to bring in more villains. Joker is locked up, and there he should stay for, AT LEAST, the majority of the movie. He should probably have the combined role of maybe Mr. Zsasz did in Begins and Scarecrow in TDK. Always there in the background. Planning and scheming his next big show.

I also think it wouldn't be very interesting to see the joker escape prison in the next film. You might disagree but we just saw him do that in the dark knight. I think that would be a little repetitive and unneccessary. I don't mind having the presence of the joker felt in the next film, but we don't need him breaking out and being a character in the film either.

I honestly like my idea of Batman breaking into Arkham every night after he's done patrolling the city to make sure Joker is locked up where he should be. And that Joker just stares, all the time twitching and smirking, right at the spot where Batman stands every night.

That's a great dynamic that I'd love to see in the next film.

But there's no one way to gauge 'right'. What may be right for one version/interpretation of a story may not be for another. At this pint, I don't think they should feel obligated to use Catwoman/Penguin/whoever if they don't feel comfortable creating a version for these movies that won't just work, but work well/ideally. And if they get to that point, then is it still Catwoman/Penguin/whoever in a true enough sense....or just in name only?

Two-Face, Joker, Scarecrow were not exactly the same as they were in the comics. And yet they were still amazing representations of their comic counterparts in the movies.

That's what I mean, though....they made them work for/fit the story moreso than having the story fit the more 'canon-ish' portrayal, if you will. Which I'm fine with. If people are okay with that so far, then hopefully they'll be open to more such adaptations. But then again...what if they feel that some other lesser-known character than, say, Catwoman will work better (regardless of the level of adaptation) for their story? With Catwoman, I see her being even harder to 'adapt' to fit this world than the others so far...not so much harder in terms of her, but harder on the overall narrative to accommodate her. Plus, I don't see a simple thief/burglar having enough impact in the grand scheme of things, even as a 'love interest', the way this Batman world has been set up. But anyway...

We know that Selina had it rough growing up and I think it should be Selina going after Sionis interests and stealing from him because perhaps Goyer and the Nolans can have Selina be Black Masks daughter. She is going after Black Mask because he got away with possibly murdering Selinas' mother?

Just an idea that I'm throwing out there.....

Who is Sionis? Not familiar with all that backstory.

Ah. But to be honest, I never even heard of Black Mask until someone mentioned him here a few months back. :O Not a real comics person.

Black Mask.

Nice avatar by the way....that fight scene was great in Watchmen between Rorschach, Night Owl, and Adrian. Even though it wasn't much of a fight but it was great choreaography.

After reading all the ways that people would like Penguin to be handled in Nolan's films, I'm thinking its a pretty good idea to introduce the character.
However, his name is pretty stupid and it's kind of hard to take a character with that name seriously. Do you guys think it would be that big a deal if he changed the characters name?

I think his real name can remain mysterious and just be called Penguin.

Same problem, you cant really be afraid of a guy who's only called The Penguin, it justs sounds too stupid, especially in Nolan's gritty universe. At some point someone will have to reveal his name and its really going to seem pretty stupid.
So I was thinking if they changed his name, but kept the same character, then it could be fine. There could still be references to the Penguin name, like a thug or something mocking him behind his back because of his appearance. They could even keep the penguin as sort of his emblem or logo, depending on what they did with the character. But they have to give him an actual name for people to refer to him as.
I know they didn't do that with The Joker, but then he's much more well known in the public eye, and as a crazy psycho path, it doesn't really matter if they just give him the title. But I don't think that could work with Oswald.

That would just be what his underworld nickname would be Penguin or they would just call him Oswald.

The name might not strike fear, but they will know what he is capable of doing if you cross him.

For whatever reason, i really wouldn't like to see an interpretation of the penguin in a 3rd nolan batman. Im not implying it can't be done or anything of the sort, i just feel as though there is so much more to explore. If im not mistaken, didn't Nolan state a while ago that he had absolutely no interest in the Penguin character? I know the title of the thread is what do YOU want in the sequel, but i was just curious how valid that statement was.

I'm still big on having Bale get in tip top Batman a$$ whoopin shape for the next Bat film.

We haven't seen him in ripped, toned up Bale shape that we have seen him in his past films and it's time we see him pull a Hugh Jackman and get ripped for this next film IMO.

Don't murder me, this is just a passing thought. What if The Riddler is a kid - a teenager?

Someone needed to make a "What If..." thread

I just want to see another intelligent, psychological, well-made film. The next Batman doesn't have to out-do the Dark Knight; it just has to stand on its own.

^^Exactly!

Hey, I would like to see Batman go undercover in one scene as Matches Malone if possible in the next film.

Amen to this. I really hope the filmmakers don't try too hard to trump TDK, as I fear the reception of TDK combined with expectations people have for the next film will make them try too hard to top TDK and result in a mess of a movie.

AKA Spider-Man 3. :csad:

I haven't seen SM3 since seeing it in theaters two years ago, but I remember thinking it tried to do FAR too much and felt way too ambitious with it's plot and how it crammed so much material into one movie. I hope the next Batman film doesn't go that same route.
