This is what I got:
The theme being identity.
Obviously, the view that Gotham has of Batman isn't well at all; they see him as a villain after taking the fault for Dent's rampage. In addition, the condition of the mob isn't so well. Due to the killings - or atleast injuries - of the current mobs, someone must take their place. In their despiration to gain back control, they turn to a man they can understand: The Riddler. They - including the current leader of the mob whether just another member or a more freakish figure such as Black Mask - hire him to figure out the identity of Batman.
Meanwhile, the Batman must deal with a recent killer exacting revenge on a corporation. This being Mr. Freeze. This Mr. Freeze wears a gas mask in order to compensate for the injuries he suffered from an accident to him and his wife thanks to the said corporation. Towards the end, in their final confrontation, Batman discusses to Mr. Freeze about his revenge and the similarities to an experience he had; Mr. Freeze reflects the crazy and confused person Bruce Wayne was after his parents' death. He talks to him about revenge not being an answer and hatred can screw with, and even destroy, yourself. This hatred will cause you to lose your - and, additionally, something Batman must fight for - identity.
Afterwards, Batman fights against The Riddler - who was mainly anonymous and "behind-the-scenes" prior - who claims to know his identity. He also, sometime before, split off from the mob's control after discovering Batman's identity thanks to his growing ego (which could also be fueled by his other discovery: Two-Face). He influenced Gotham to hate Batman even more thanks to numerous crimes he was responsible for. Batman would then defeat The Riddler - however that would be - sealing Gotham's trust with Batman: something they might not like, but something they need.
At the end, Batman eventually finds out about an escapee from Arkham Asylum: The Joker. Thus, Batman continues his legacy...
