The Dark Knight Rises The Official "What Do YOU Want in the Sequel?" Thread

I want to see Bruce establish a friendship with Gordon. Due to Batman's status as a wanted criminal Bruce will obviously want to make up for his lack of activity as Batman by funding projects in Gotham. Through this I hope friendship will grow between the two.

I want to see Bruce's faith in himself restored by the presence of Black Mask. Something I've noticed from the last two films is that Bruce doesn't really want to be Bruce, he only wants to be Batman. Through observing Black Mask Bruce should realise that it's his character that makes him who he is.

That'd be pretty cool actually. Gordon had a much more prominent role in TDK. I hope it grows even further in the third movie.

Props to Nolan, he makes good use of Batman's supporting cast.

My idea is that Bruce Wayne is avoiding dealing with the death of Rachel. He throws himself into his role as Batman, being more aggressive and brutal than he would normally be. This leads him to begin making little mistakes, something which the next villain could take advantage of. Alfred is growing concerned over Bruce's reckless behaviour. Bruce tries to prove to Alfred that he is fine and begins dating Vicki Vale, who it turns out is doing a newspaper article on Batman. Vicki also seems to have some personality characteristics similar to Rachel, something which Alfred picks up on. Bruce takes Vicki out on dates and they do what normal couples expect to do although there is no feeling behind it on Bruce's part. Alfred disapproves of Bruce using Vicki the way that he is and feels that it is necessary to reveal the contents of Rachel's letter. Vicki becomes increasingly aware of Bruce's detachment to the given situation over the course of the movie and eventually calls him out about his feelings. Vicki and Bruce break up and Bruce begins to deal with Rachel's death. Bruce then visits his parents and Rachel's graves. A few days later, Bruce throws a fundraiser to celebrate the creation of the Thomas and Martha Wayne Foundation Trust, a charity in memory of his parents which helps provide money to improve the disadvantaged areas of Gotham. Vicki attends the fundraiser as she is covering the event for the newspaper. She wishes Bruce well for the future and hopes that he finds someone who can make him happy. Bruce then talks to some other fundraiser guests including a woman named Selina Kyle.

I'm surprised I like that as much as I do! But those seem like really great ideas. I really would want Catwoman to be the main villain, but I would be totally happy even with something like this. Good job, man!

has anyone mentioned batman?

i kind of want batman to be in the next movie.

There are two scenes from Mask of the Phantasm I would like to see, if possible:

-the scene in which Bruce puts on the cowl for the first time:[YT]t3EAwaX17sw[/YT]. Obviously, it wouldn't be the first time, but it would show that Bruce has finally accepted that he will be Batman forever.

-Batman chased by the GCPD: [YT]roeZt13ARSU[/YT]. It would need some changes (for example, change the whole end, from the moment Batman makes the cape and cowl decoy, it would never work in a movie, then the fall he makes, completely unrealistic.)

I know there is little chance it will happen, but still, it would be nice...

Maybe you are being sarcastic, but what about in BB when Bats falls off the apartment in the narrows or even worse when he goes out the penthouse window?

My bad, I was thinking about falling without the cape, sorry. Another thing that disturbs me is that no one recognizes Bruce Friggin Wayne. Can someone explain this one please?

hahaha no actually I was just wondering that today while I was watching it.

Agreed. However, I really don't think of Catwoman as a villain. Infact, I think she's just neutral; I mean, she's an expert thief and hops on both sides of the law. Mainly stealing or making dirty money from the mob sometimes; but at other times too, she has it for both Batman and Bruce Wayne and does what she can to help him out. Or at least to some degree. LOL Like I said though, neutral; doesn't really have the title hero or villain. :oldrazz: None the less though, since Batman's being hunted by the police now and wanted for supposed murder, it's going to be hard for him to rebuild everything from where he started. I want to see Wayne Manor finished, as well as a more advanced Bat Cave; gotta have a little something to get up and running. LOL But just with Batman focusing on building Gotham back up again, mobs and crime everywhere, including more theatrics from the Freaks side like Riddler, Black Mask, ect. And in doing so with that, Batman finds Catwoman who's your typical thief who's plain hard to get and rubbing Bruce in both good and bad ways. :cwink: Just that balance on it's own of trying to trust someone who's unpredictable with breaking the law or attempting to lure him with with temptation would be a great conflict Batman would have; and not to mention not being aware of his new love interest Selina Kyle is a masked vigilante too, and trying to just take everything in after Rachel and Harvey, and moreover the impact Joker had on Gotham and how the streets are going to be even harder to clean up. Not to mention it's going to be difficult for Gordon to be siding with him more often, now that he has to appear to be going after him with the rest of GPD and without any help of Harvey Dent doing criminal background checks or openly promoting Batman on the news. What I really want to see is Batman struggling even more after his losses and trying to take on this city all by his own.

I'd like to see several villains in part 3, with none of them hogging the spotlight.

The mafia hit rock bottom after TDK, and the last two films have focused on escalation. I can see the freaks fighting over who gets to run Gotham, especially after the influence Joker had in TDK. The story should focus more on Batman being a fugitive, and how he learns to accept his role as Gotham's protector.

If Nolan really wants to do something original with part 3, he should do the story without a main villain. Every comic book sequel has to focus on one or two main villains. They should do away with that.

Maybe one approach they could try is something similar to the 1979 movie "The Warriors". Have gangs of theatrical types. No need to focus on origins. They're all established in the underworld, and they all share a common goal, namely turf and power. This way they could still tap into Batman's rogue gallery, but keep the story focused on Batman.

Here's my wish list:

-a training scene ala Batman:War on Crime;
-a cloth over armor costume;
-Gotham City and not Chicago;
-a bulkier Bale;
-the Batmobile replacing the Tumbler and the Bat Pod;
-Bruce relying less on Fox and Alfred and more on himself;
-the Bat Signal restored at the end of the movie;
-a proper Batcave;
-more gadgets;
-Batman using his glider cape around the city;
-Adam West as Gotham's Mayor(come on,he deserves a cameo!);
-a scene where Batman is chased by the police(think Batman:MOTP);
-better fighting scenes;

-Batman using his glider cape around the city;
-Adam West as Gotham's Mayor(come on,he deserves a cameo!);

1. I didn't even realize how little Batman used the Gliding technique from BB in TDK.... weird.

2. I couldn't handle an Adam West cameo.

Oh I'd love it. Just don't make it too OTT like some of Stan Lee's cameos in the Marvel movies.

I loved Senator Patrick Leahy's cameo in TDK. "We're not intimidated by thugs".

What I'd like to see:

1. The Riddler. I know, I know. The usual suspects as far as villains go are so far Riddler, Black Mask and Catwoman. But honestly, there's a chance we may not get all three or whoever Nolan has in mind is not who we here think will make an appearance. So really, if it came down to the wire then I'd be fine with just two - but I really want to see Nolan's interpretation of Riddler. The possibilities are endless.

2. The obvious choice like some already mentioned...More Batman. I also want to see more detective work. TDK had that to a certain extent but I'd really love to see it flourish more in the third and see Bat's utilize his smarts to the fullest. Especially with a potential foe like Riddler.

3. Nods to certain villains, cameo's or even a mentioning. I was thinking about this the other day - well mainly because I had some spare time and decided to reread The Long Halloween - and I'd love to see atleast a cameo or mentioning of Calendar Man. The way I envision this is two ways:

One) The Gotham news is shown and the telecast reads "Authorities finally apprehend the notorious Calendar Man also known as Julian Day. Day, who is most recognizable for his horrific and calculated crimes surrounding the yearly holidays was found and caught by police after evading capture for almost a year." (Something like that) And then they could show his picture while in cuffs.

Two) This idea I'm only mentioning due to the fact that I'm quite fond of it but I don't see actually happening because of Batman's current status after the events of TDK. But had things been the other way around, I would've liked to see a scene where it's Christmas time in Gotham and it's snowing. Calendar Man is already known for his holiday related crimes and eventually is captured by Batman. The way I imagine this scene is that Batman has his tied up in front of the Gotham Police Department with a note on his chest that reads "Happy Holidays". Again, just an idea.

Another idea I've been tossing around is a mentioning of Penguin, but only if he isn't slated for a bigger role in the third. Again, the news is on and one of the reporters states "And after months of construction, Oswald Cobblepot's Iceberg Lounge made it's grand opening tonight." Or, Bruce could always have a date there depending on the love interest.

4. Simply put - THE BATCAVE.

5. I'd like to see the series of bat-vehicles continue. In BB we had the Tumbler, TDK was the Bat-pod. So for the third, I don't know, maybe we'll see the Bat-plane or Bat-boat? Again, just another thing to possibly look forward to and I'd be all for it. I'd also like to see more gadgets.

I agree with you on everything. They finally put Scarecrow and Ras in a movie and Joker and Two Face are two of his biggest villians that the general audience knows. If Catwoman is in this I wouldn't want her as a villian but a moral middleground like in the comics that Batman is trying to figure out what to do with her.

Basically like you said, I want the freaks to be fighting over areas of Gotham, we've had enough of the mob. Batman started taking them all down and Joker put the final Kabosh on them. In TDK Lau even tells the mob that he's the only option left since Batman/Dent took care of all of Lau's competitors...and Joker takes out Lau. With Joker killing the majority of the heads of the different factions in the mob and the high probability that Maroni is dead this should leave all the old mob territory up for grabs.

I do want the Riddler to be in the third film but I don't think they should solely focus on him as the main villian. They should involve a number of other popular villians from Batman's rogue gallery and each one could bring out different elements/sides of Batman. Some examples would be, Riddler would obviously bring out even more of his detective skills, with someone like the Penguin he could finally use Matches Mallone to get in close since Penguin would be the closest freak type villain to the old mob. Someone like Killer Croc would involve Batman to use not just his wits of course but it would be an actual physical threat.

Overall, I trust Nolan for the most part and will be pretty damn happy if he brings back Wayne Manor, the Batcave and hopefully a new vehicle or costume.

I still think a new way to use the Penguin would be to be Batman's informant. He owns a club and tries to be legit, but he does have affiliations with the underworld and what is going on. The only reason Batman hasn't taken him away is because he gives him good information. Give him a broken nose played by Ray Winstone and abra ****ing kedavra it's great.

I was with you until the last sentence. The rest doesnt sound like that big of a stretch to be a problem though.

The broken nose part? Yeah, I was kind of unsure about that myself. I'd make him like like British thug who tries to be on top but can't get quite there. He tries to act it but isn't really. He has a dirty personality but with nice clothes. Winstone's Mac in KOTCS is how I see it. Something like that. The tent scene when he's drunk talking to Indy is how I see him.

Winstone would be awesome though. He's the only guy who I can see playing him.

:huh: Really? I understand why Winstone but I dont see why only Winstone

Although I think Winstone is really wrong for the part. Winstone is too intimidating. Penguin is intimidating because he has money and pull and henchman. You take those things away from Winstone and still appears to be a force to be reckoned with.

I think he should be more snooty and overprivelaged.

And the broken nose thing. I ve seen people with big noses. Why Nolan thinks he cant work is beyond me.

In a perfect world (IMO anyway) it would be like David Suchet from the movie Foolproof

Not sure if I can see Winstone in the role but I like your idea of having Penguin be an informant of some kind.

Just curious. What made you want him to be a character trying to be legit?

Well, I was thinking up a Batman story for a film that would be more of a detective film and the idea of him being like that came from that. I was just trying to find a new angle for the character. The snooty privleged type is boring to me. The idea seems to fit in Nolan's world more. He's one of those characters where I don't mind if there are changes to. I like the rougher type and Winstone can do it. Sophisticated Penguin doesn't do it for me.

Plus Winstone just popped into my head when I thought of that type of character. Especially the way he was as Mac in KOTCS. Or if we're talking more of the gangster type, his character in Sexy Beast. Imagine him as the Penguin sitting at a desk or in a night club trying to act like a big boss, but he still has this dirty personality. You kind of like him, but he's still scum. Batman will get info out of him if he won't talk as much as he wants him to. Maybe Penguin can even help him out a bit with a crucial piece of information. I'm just trying to make him more interesting. If I were the director, that's the direction I would go.

The Penguin is a codename he uses for picking up arms and such from the black market. Plus, Winstone would make a great fit in a Nolan film. Just imagine it.

Personally i dont think they should ever come closer than they already are. In the comics Gordon probably knows but blocks it out and pretends that he doesnt. I would only like them as friends in the distant future, like how in Batman Beyond he and Bruce would meet every year in old Gotham where the GPD headquarters used to be (now its an abandoned building) and have a cup of coffee.

So, what would i like to see?

1) More comic book atmosphere to the whole movie, like the one we had in Begins.
2) That would reflect in the BATCAVE: Huge, with catwalks over the abyss, with an underground river/lake, with many bat vehicles, a huge computer, a room for memorabilia, and of course the T-Rex. There best be a T-Rex there Nolan!!!
3) A better batsuit that isnt robotic.
4) Bruce in front of the bat computer in full costume, but with his cowl pulled back, like how NiteOwl did at the end of Watchmen.
5) Tumbler 2.0, Batwing and Batboat. Even if he doesnt use them in the movie, have them parked in the cave.
6) Firefly as a secondary villain (i dont know which one i'd like as the primary villain) and a big aerial fight over and between skyscrapers with batman gliding and using his grapple gun vs Firefly flying.
7) Akham Asylum opening again and Batman visiting. Joker and Crane cameos. Even if its just a laugh and a shadow from the Joker.
8) MOVIE REVOLVING AROUND BATMAN!!!

1. Good fight scenes that demonstrate Batmans martial arts prowess. Preferably a villain who can challenge Batman physically. Someone he can have an epic one on one hand to hand fight with.

2. Actual detective work.

3. More predatory instincts from Batman. Like in Begins, lurking in the shadows, leaping out and grabbing someone, skulking back to the shadows. Batarangs, smoke bombs, flash bangs. Y'know, Batman stuff.

4. Wayne Manor and new Bat Cave.

5. A mention of his parents. The whole reason Batman takes up his crusade didn't get a single mention in TDK. Maybe a scene at his parents graves a la Mask of the Phantasm or something.

6. Snow.
