The Dark Knight Rises The Official "What Do YOU Want in the Sequel?" Thread

Why would retconning be necessary to include Leslie?

Well, in the comics she met Bruce when he was a kid, right after his parents were killed. She comforted him, and looked after him.

Leslie was notably absent from Begins.

If The Riddler is in the movie, I'd love to see the third Batman film be constructed like a riddle, the same way that The Prestige is structured like a magic trick or Inception has dream-like elements. After the relatively linear Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, a movie that gets really ambitious with its structure in a way that gives us a sense of steadily unwrapping an elaborate puzzle could make for thrilling cinema.

Exactly, her biggest connection to Bruce Wayne is how she relates to his childhood. Since she is absent in Batman Begins, she should not just pop up now. It would serve little purpose.

Begins wasnt linear. It wasnt as complex as the Prestige, but still...

That's kind of why I don't want Talia to be in the next film. They never showed her in BB when Bruce was training with Ras, and to put her in as his daughter all of a sudden would be kind of forced.

What do i want in the sequel? Robin. I doubt i'll get my wish though.

I don't really see a problem with showing Leslie comforting Bruce after the death of his parents.

It's not like his origin didn't exist for years without her, and then she was revealed.

I doubt we'll see her though. In a franchise where we get Stephens and Ramirez and no Bullock and Montoya, I don't hold out much hope.

It could be done, sure. He could aso meet her now. Say he's hurt and crawls to her clinic, she helps him and becomes his ally. Bruce finances her clinic from then on.

I just imagined Christian Bale in the batsuit literally crawling into a clinic...I couldn't stop laughing:woot:

"Nurse, there seems to be an injured officer in the lobby!"

*Batman in the background* "DO I LOOK LIKE A COP!?!" :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

It's infinitely easier to do that kind of thing in a fluid, continuously ongoing story like the ones found in the comics than it is a finite trilogy of films. Nolan might could pull it off, but I think it would be better not to focus on Leslie Thompkins' past with Bruce if she were to be worked in, along with any other character like Hush who has ties to Bruce's childhood.

Excellent thoughts.

I doubt we'll see her, but I don't really see why adding Leslie would ruin anything. I mean, whether the mediums are different or not, the character suddently was made part of his past in the 70's, and no one blinked.

And we saw like, five minutes of Bruce's childhood and the aftermath of the murder of his parents. Surely, there was something else that happened in his life to influence him, even if he doesn't think about it every day. I would present Leslie as something Bruce has all but forgotten, and remembers, and it really affects him moving forward. I really don't think showing some scenes of Alfred, Leslie and Bruce in the past would feel all that forced in context.

This wouldn't be a "SPIDER-MAN 3" revamp, just more of Bruce Wayne's compelling story.

What I would do, and this isn't exactly foreign territory to comics readers, is have Bruce realize that his war on crime needs to involve stopping crime at the source, and bettering the lives of Gotham's unfortunate to prevent the breeding of criminals, and I would use that to improve his public image, which was tarnished in BEGINS, and starting to become a bit more respectable in THE DARK KNIGHT. Leslie Thompkins would be tied to that, as would Selina Kyle. Heck, I would tie Hugo Strange to it as well, if I had my druthers, and have done so in a script or two.

Now that you mentioned going back to his origin, i'd have liked to see a movie like the Zatanna episode of BTAS (her father trains Bruce in escape arts and later as Batman he teams up with her), or generally some flashbacks to the rest of his training which we didnt see.

Yes, yes. I'd adore that. It'd be nice to see other areas of Bruce's skill development explored than just his stealth/combat training. The escape artist stuff he learned in that episode would be great for some of the Riddler's traps I imagine, and Leslie would be a great new confidante after what Bruce had been through and continues to go through. Plus there's a spot open for a new female presence since Rachel is now gone. I like Guard's idea here.

Very appropriate, both of you. Would give B3 some of the heart that Begins had that TDK was somewhat missing.

Thanks a lot and i totally agree with the part in bold.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but what would you guys say to Vicki Vale?

"If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?"

I get the feeling this may just be a big of an obvious thought, with how TDK ends but....I want to see the worst imaginable things happening in Gotham/to it's citizens....I want to see Batman overwhelmed and sunken to his lowest point....all so that Gotham can see why it needs Batman...anything else will just be candy from Nolan. I just hope no Hugo Strange. :/

Same here. Some people want the next film to be a little more upbeat but I say make most of it darker than TDK until the last act where Batman can redeem himself.

Something like this...

:awesome:

I want to see either Deacon Blackfire from the graphic novel Batman: The Cult as the villain. Him or the Reaper from Batman: Year 2.

As Batman Begins was an action adventure, and TDK was a crime thriller, I'd like to see The Dark Knight Rises have a different genre than the prior two films...not more of the same...

More specifically I'd like TDKR to become a suspense/horror type of film (horror does not have to be supernatural).

Batman: The Cult was very much like a horror film, something along those lines. But most importantly...

a different genre...

I would also like to see a vehicle chase on a new road that doesn't include Chicago's lower Wacker drive. It looks like BB and TDK had a vehicle chase on the exact same road/spot. Makes Gotham feel like it has one road.

^ Horror? Yikes. I could see something teetering on psychological thriller, but even that seems unlikely.
