Good lord Snyder. I didn't have a problem with that in the TDK Trilogy, or the MCU or Superman 1 & 2, or heck Burton's stuff. What is your deal?

"I kinda came to the conclusion also that they couldn't really talk in their suits, um, with any credibility..."
"... more than four or five lines and you start to notice, like wait, these are two guys ... one guys dressed up like a bat and the other has a big red 'S' on his chest, and they're being super serious about how mad they are at each other..."

This is the stupidest thing I ever heard. This guy has no business directing any superhero movie.

I can't wait to see how the Snyder defenders rationalize this as a good thing.

They, like life, always find a way....

Mark Hughes was right, Zack Snyder LOVES Batman and Superman. He totally loves the DC Universe.

:o

Did you guys ever think that maybe he gets the character, you just don't like his interpretation and vision for that character? It just seems alot of times people say he 'doesn't get the character', because he's not finding the fun or the more positive sides of Superman, but isn't that less about the character and more about the depiction OF that character? As far as I can tell Snyder completely gets Superman as a three dimensional character and person moreso than alot of fans who treat him as some utter ideal. Snyder treats him like a person and shows that in what he represents in his story. Then it's all explored in the world Snyder finds interesting to place him in and interact with.

Snyder hasn't earned the good will and trust to push the characters into those directions.

It seems like Snyder doesn't want to even make superhero films. He's just there because they couldn't find anyone else so he sold out and took the money.

So…are people going to just keep bringing up old Snyder quotes, taking them at completely face value and being derogatory based on this?

With this latest sound bite, he says nothing about this being why Superman is a man of few words.

He is referring to Batman and Superman discussing their conflicts with each other, and how much of that they wanted to show of that in the film.

He specifically references HEAT. It seems to me that he means that it would be a bit ridiculous to have a super serious ideological conversation about themselves with each other in costume. Which it kinda would. It would get real preachy, real fast.

Who says they needed to be in the costume?

He essentially says that neither character can talk with credibility when they're in their costumes.

Don't you get how awful a thing this is for the shepard of the DC universe to be saying?

Guys dressed up as a bat and a clown talking to each other is like the pinnacle of CBMs. But okay, Snyder.

Except that this is not the context of his statement at all. He is specifically talking about them discussing their conflict with each other in costume.

Not talking in costume. Talking about their conflict with each other in costume.

You can't just remove half the content of his statement and interpret it. Communication doesn't work that way.

I think he understands the characters just fine. He is just more interested in pushing their limits and characters and challenging them, without feeling obliged to cater to what fanboys want. He'd rather push them as well to see their characters put in tough spots and make compromising choices. If it were any other character where fans/audiences came in with such pre-conceived characterizations, I think people would be way more down with the film. Most of the complaints from the fan world have more to do with the characterization being different than their own personal version because of x, y and z. Not that the film was without flaws, but those tend to be the things I've seen most discussed - Batman wouldn't do this because blah, Superman wouldn't do this, Lex wouldn't act like this....

I agree with this.

Snyder likes to push boundries, and it has it's time and place. He just doesn't know when to let off the gas sometimes.

No, I realize what he's saying. It just still sounds dumb.

Sometimes I feel like all he says is due to the perks that come with being so positive about it.

Unless the person is a known liar you're supposed to take words at face value.

The best example has already been mentioned, Batman and joker. It's not impossible. If the scene fails then it's not being executed properly. Maybe it's just impossible for Snyder.

Which is why I've pointed out he's speaking about a specific issue between the two.

Batman and Joker...I assume you mean THE DARK KNIGHT? The scene where Joker says a whole, whole lot and Batman just kind of sits there and lets him rant with a few one liners and questions about where people are peppered in?

"You wanted me, here I am".
"Where's Dent?" (twice)
"Then why do you want to kill me?"
"You're garbage who kills for money"
"I have one rule"
"Which is?"
"I'm considering it".
"Where are they?"

The scene where Batman sits there silently for like, 85 percent of the scene and The Joker more or less discusses Batman ideology for him? That's not two characters discussing their ideologies in any real sense. That's one character discussing the other character's ideology. There are actually two scenes of this in the film. Batman barely says anything about his own ideology with The Joker.

And The Joker is one of the few characters who can get away with being wordy. Because he's pretty much nuts.

I agree with what Snyder says, it does look stupid seeing guys dressed in funny suits.

Seriously reaching here mate.

I don't know why Snyder keeps digging this hole for himself. Every time he does an interview he comes out with some weird stuff.

I watched some JLU episodes yesterday and I agree to a point. It was weird and funny seeing Superheroes eating food/talking in a cafeteria on the Watchtower. Especially Batman, WW, Hawkgirl and GL.

To be fair it was during the press junket. He had to sit through hours of interviews trying not to spoil things and talk about the same topics as the last interviewer.

The whole idea of superheroes is patently ridiculous, but that doesn't mean it can't be done convincingly on screen.

To be fair, people will take anything he says and try to spin it however they can in order to make him look bad.

Hard to spin something that's right there in the open.
