BvS The Official Zack Snyder Directs Everything Thread - Part 2

I'm assuming this was directed at me? given:

No, it was directed at the overall tone of this board, which you confirm with the bolded part below in one of the other parts of your post I quoted, and will now bold.

I liked MOS, but it's a flawed movie, I would say its box office and ratings (which are all we have to go by tbh. not RT critics, but fan ratings) pretty much show it was a good-not great movie. As to BvS, same situation really.

At no point did I do anything other than state my opinion. I do not feel it is universal, though I can point to things and say I sure aint alone.

Look at the bolded part of the post I initially quoted:

Whats sad is I think the introspective/alien/doubting supes angle couldve worked amazingly well in making him relatable to present day audiences, but it was done poorly in MOS and then dragged out and drilled to death in BvS.

That's just kind of a given on a you know, discussion forum. Maybe you need to stick to the positivity thread?

No, it isn't a given. In regard to the bolded, that's precisely what I meant when I made the previous post you thought was aimed at you. I'm not thrilled with this movie, but I found a lot of thing s enjoyable. When there is a single thread that reasonable/positive people can go to because the rest of the threads consist of frothy-mouthed fanatics, that's a failure on the part of the mods to make sure the civility that's supposedly encouraged here is being adhered to.

Every other thread is dominated by hypberolic negativity and made untenable to participate in unless you share extreme views.

Henry Cavill IS Superman thread:

1: "I liked his performance, I would've liked if he was more hopeful but he did well with what he was given"
2: "JESUS **** Snyder doesn't get this character MY GOD!!!!!"
3: "I KNOW!!! Mopey Superman again? What the ****!?!?!!??!"
4: "WHY THE **** DOES SNYDER STILL HAVE A JOB!!?!?!?"

Ben Affleck IS Batman thread:

1: "Those action scenes looked great, Ben's definitely done a great iteration of the character"
2: "Are you ****ING HIGH!? This Batman KILLED!!!!"
3: "Batman NEVER kills!!! Snyder HATES this character!"
4: "Snyder hates the character, AND he hates the fans!!"

Box Office Thread:

1: "So do you guys think it'll break $1b?"
2: "Jesus, I hope not"
3: "The only way they'll fire Snyder is if this makes only $700m, I hope nobody goes and sees this, it's the worst thing I've ever seen!!!"
4: "It's worse than the worst, the only way we'll get the JL we'll deserve is if Snyder gets the point...I'm going to go and make a petition for Snyder to be banned from Hollywood"

Ad infinitum in every other thread. Bar one. Just by reading anyone's user name, I can tell you how they feel about BvS, MoS, Snyder, Cavill, Affleck, and almost any other topic related to the DCEU - because I've read the same thing from everyone like twenty times. We can lock all the threads right now and no new discussion or information will be added for the next three months. That doesn't sound like a "discussion board" - it sounds like mindless repetition.

dude, is every post supposed to carry a disclaimer for you? Because unless people are talking about things like the water is wet and the sky is blue this whole board aint nothing but opinions.

*The preceding was simply this lone posters opinion and in no way was intended to stand as the universal view point for the entire movie going public. If you agree with the views presented in this post it is merely a coincidence and maybe you two should hang out.

Just going to dodge everything else and throw around some rhetoric?

well lets approach it logically, if every thread has posters with negative opinions of that aspect of the movie, and if the negative posters outnumber the positive posters then what can we deduce about the quality of the movie...

I mean the mods are here to keep things civil, not to shape the conversations so that each point of view is adequately represented.

Except I'm not trying to extrapolate the quality of the movie from the ratio of positive:negative posts. I know the movie has a fair number of technical flaws and has questionable objective quality, I've mentioned them before and I agree with other people who have reasonably noted them. I'm not saying the movie was fantastic and I find the negativity out of whack.

What I'm specifically talking about is the amount of repeated, hyperbolic and unreasonable negativity. Usually when people start retreading known ground and a frustrated circular discussion develops in other threads on other boards, the mods come in with your standard issue "Guys, we get it, move on". Here people are almost having full blown meltdowns and it's just swept under the carpet.

In the space of less than a week it's already become a meme that people are reproducing and buying into. Since we're doing disclaimers, though:

*I'm not trying to tell people what to say or think. I'm just commenting about the way Hype members are interacting with one another and how a lot of them are making sweeping statements about how things "should" be without engaging with the subject matter reasonably.

I mean the mods are here to keep things civil, not to shape the conversations so that each point of view is adequately represented.

Precisely, we agree on that at least. Hyperbole and derisive discussion, on both sides, doesn't really make me think civility is rife around here.

But thats the thing here though, that's their opinion and ultimately who are you to tell them its unreasonable? You are attempting to police their opinions because they dont align with yours, and saying they're silencing others in the process (lol). Get some perspective guy.

Nah, that's precisely why I said I'm not interested in the content, I'm saying the WAY people are expressing their opinions is over the top and unreasonable, not that their actual opinions are unreasonable.

NO GIF FOR YOU!

That's totally unreasonable :oldrazz:

Time to change the thread title to Snyder ain't directing anything anymore.

I think its really sad that thinking so far outside the box like what Snyder has done has been rejected by fans and critics while being nitpicked to death.

Whereas movies that play it safe like The Force Awakens are almost universally applauded, with its issues like an absurd Mary Sue main character, a plot that revolves around a macguffin (a map to luke, really?) and 5 planets being blown up with zero tension or consequences are gleefully glazed over - because they got what they wanted - more of the same - something that really irritated George Lucas and me.

Zack is a visionary way ahead of his time. And to be fair it took me a couple of viewings to 'get' BvS, and respect what Zack did with the characters and story. I just feel people will not budge from whatever it was they wanted or expected from this film to simply accept what it was that we got.

I cant but help feel down that in an age where theres so much complaining about sequels, reboots, etc, that when we get a really fresh take on an old concept people (even me until the second viewing) turn their nose up at it. In all actuality, I think we as a general movie going populace have been trained to like the sequels, to like the reboots, and thus when we see familiar formulas and concepts we embrace them instead of wanting something new.

Its really sad. I hope Snyder gets to finish Justice League because his first two films in the universe are anything but bad movies.

He probably won't, and if we want the prospect of an extended DCEU to survive maybe he shouldn't.

I really enjoyed BvS, but from an objective perspective these movies need to be better executed and more accessible if they're going to finance a whole universe.

Here's the thing, ambition only goes so far. TFA is, just a better made movie that's more enjoyable and hold together better. And really, when it comes right down to it, this movie is riddled with clichés and stuff we've seen before as well.

Captain America: TWS or even the Punisher parts of DD Season 2 are good examples of how you can do this sort of hero vs. hero thing, competently.

I want to take my vote back. After seeing the movie, Zack knows what he's doing with the characters.
About to go see it a 2nd time this time in Imax. So far before the second viewing I still give it a 9/10.

So says the guy who called my post insane and ridiculous. Please tell me what is so ridiculous about the idea that people may actually want Superman to be Superman?

I really hope so. Simple Zack the Hack has had a career based on WB's blind support for a decade too long. He is also a self-absorbed pompous ass who talks down to fans and critics and smack talked Marvel who is doing circles around him at the BO. I hope his career is over.

Why would you vote before seeing the movie?

That's a little harsh, don't you think?

Don't get your hopes too high. He will still direct JL.

The Force Awakens didn't play it safe. It was exactly what it was supposed to be.

The Force Awakens wasn't meant for you or me.

We had our Star Wars.

The Force Awakens was made for the next generation of fans. And the next. And the next. It's their A New Hope.

The fact younger audiences reacted to strongly to The Force Awakens AND it offered fun nostalgia for longtime older fans makes it a tremendous success.

I wish more people understood this. I wish WB understood this. The Force Awakens was to Star Wars what BvS should have been to Superman and Batman.

I don't think i have ever read anything so irrational in this forum until now. Don't you have anything better to do with your life than being so hateful?

Anyway, his career is certainly not over, so do yourself a favor and don't get your hopes too high.

It wasn't? I wish when i went to buy the ticket somebody had told me "this isn't for you".

Sorry. BS. Pure and utter BS. It was a nostalgia remake to heal a goddamn fan base they basically drove out its creator because they whinned like little children.

This was not for a new generation of fans. It was for the old ass ones. The Prequels were for the new generation. Fact.

There's no need for this bro
