Let's say the Fantastic Four are allowed in the MCU post-Infinity. With that, Marvel has a great oppurtunity to set up Dr Doom, casted as....Robert Downey Jr.

Obviously this is not how it originally was in canon, but at this point I think the character of Tony Stark has been perfectly set up to become Dr Doom in a later phase. In fact, the character of Dr Doom has always had motivations very similar to what Tony Stark's are right now in the MCU.

Then there is the Iron Legion, which could easily evolve into Doombots. Iron Man wears a suit of armor, like Dr Doom. All it would take is Tony to encounter the mystical elements of the MCU and begin training in them.

My dream scenario would be a film set in Shanghai against the real Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom. This film could also function as the introduction of the Fantastic Four. To defeat the Mandarin, Tony builds a special anti-magic armor, a dull grey in color. After defeating the Mandarin, Tony takes the ten rings and the Mandarin's green cloak and becomes Dr Doom.

That's just a rough outline, but I think it would be extremely awesome. And, in my opinion, there is no one more interesting to become a villain than RDJ. He is the cornerstone of the MCU. I know it's a longshot, but it just works so well in my opinion, and I'd love to see it.

This idea is how you get skewered by everyone. If Doom comes into the MCU, Victor will be behind the armor. Period.

As for who should play Doctor Doom my pick would be Rufus Sewell or Mark Strong

Simon Kinberg, nice to meet you.

Doom is a tough character to do correctly - partly because he's just a little bit
ridiculous, I mean he takes himself utterly serious, but come on the guy refers to himself in the 3rd person.

If an FF movie was done with a light tone, Doom could be great fun - provided the right casting.

Alternatively, a totally serious Doom could work if cast right and given the same kind of treatment that Zemo got in Civil War - remove the ridiculous trappings and make him a human being. Because the mask is such an iconic part of the character, I don't think you could drop it altogether (unlike Zemo, whose comic book mask really is ridiculous).

Castings for Doom in a a lighter toned FF film:

Matt Smith

Daniel Radcliffe

Christoph Waltz

Castings for a totally serious Doom:

Richard Armitage

Matthew MacFayden

Cillian Murphy

I like this Doom. He's alot more restrained

The way I see it...a name is just a name. I can see Tony doing all the things that make Dr Doom who he is as a character, which is more important I think.

After Thanos, show him abondoning The Avengers and doubling down on his Iron Legion and AI somewhere in exile. Maybe in the castle near Sokovia, to remind him of his past failures. For the Fantastic Four, you just got to have Tony get permanently scarred in an accident he can blame on Reed Richards and some sort of flirtatious relationship with Susan Storm and you've got yourself an arch nemesis.

Cillian Murphy or Matt Smith as my next choices for Doom

No...

Matt Smith doesn't have the voice for Doom, it's all in the voice.

This sounds more like the perfect Fox Doom for their next go round at trying to do another FF movie and bastardise the character.

It's a unique idea for sure but I feel like they would never do this and I don't even think RDJ would want to do this honestly.

I don't really want a boyish doom. He has to be older, more experienced. Anthony warlow would be cool

This is the perfect Doom.

There's no way he's not making fun of how Tony Stark hogs the limelight.

I kind of get what you are saying but let me just say I don't like this idea at all.

Without straight up bashing the idea it is an interesting concept but it just doesn't fit at all with the evolution of the Tony Stark character we have seen. He has gone through these phases in IM3, AOU and Civil War and it doesn't make one lick of sense to revert back to that stage in his life. And Im not even referring to him becoming Doom but just a villain in general.

It would also be the greatest injustice to the Doom character. Even worst than any of the Fox versions.

Latveria forms out of the ashes of Sokovia. Victor Von Doom, former classmate of Reed Richards and Latverian noble, was injured in the destruction and put on the armor to survive.

Prior to the incident he adapted military tech developed in response to the Iron Man suit hammer drones etc. Including advanced cybernetics. The metal used in his final cybernetic form came from a meteor that crashed at a Tibetan monastery. Doom was fascinated by the dark arts and believed this metal to provide some other kind of mystical enhancement making his armor superior to that of the "Iron Man".

He rose to power on the idea of a sovereign state, and made himself dictator. The accords prevent The Avengers from going in and throwing him out.

I have been thinking this over since writing my post and, having watched a little MCU today, I don't think it would be believable enough for Tony to become Doom. The motive is there, and the oppurtunity, but when it comes to personality I just can't see it.

Something that irritated me about AoU is that Ultron's personality was just wrong. Being joking/sarcastic felt weird to me...Earth's Mightiest Heroes did Ultron way better. In the same way, Tony just doesn't have the right personality to play Doom correctly and I would hate to see him turn out like Ultron in that way.

So what about Victor being Tony's son instead?

We all know Tony was a party animal in his younger years, so it's not hard to believe that he could have a child that he doesn't know about. Growing up, his mother could be open about the truth, which could lead Victor to see Tony as a role model, someone to strive to earn the approval of. His more immediate father figure would be Mephisto, who visits occasionally in a human form, as Victor's mother has made a deal with him. With the intellect and savvy of a Stark and the shrwed mystical training of Mephisto, Victor soon makes a name for himself and is noticed by The Baxter Building. He is given a scholarship to attend and, years later, he is eventually made to share a room with Reed Richards.

Victor leaves The Baxter Building after receiving an offer to work at Stark Industries and is rising up the ranks there when Tony is captured by the Ten Rings. When Tony returns as Iron Man, he admires Tony's humanitarian change of heart.

But then, Sokovia happens and Victor finally becomes disillusioned with Tony. He sees how Tony does not take full responsibility for Ultron, and how he simply abandoned the people of Sokovia after Ultron was defeated. In the turmoil, Pepper seeks distance from Tony as well and steps down as CEO of Stark Industries, appointing Victor as her succesor. Finally, after decades of waiting, Victor finally feels worthy of telling Tony who he really is...but no longer sees the point.

Instead, Victor decides to take Stark Industries to Sokovia. Perhaps, by moving the headquarters there, he can provide jobs for all the people who had their homes destroyed, and start the rebuilding. Over the years, he builds armor out of Ultron's adamantium, becomes the new leader of the Ten Rings, and studies his father's robot tech to build his own legion of Doombots. This is where we should meet Doom in the films. A king, a master sorceror and warlord, protecting his soveriegn land with the cutting edge of weapons tech built at Stark Industries. Loved by his people, and hiding a secret that connects him to the one who started it all.

I don't want Doom related to Tony or having anything to do with him.

This fan film that Goblin Scrier posted in the Keep Hope Alive thread shows a great portrayal of Doom even on a low budget.

I think they've captured the essence of him well, and this is what I would want to see, not anything related to Stark.

The Stark family have done enough in the MCU. Doom's story is interesting enough without that connection.
