The Phantom Zone: Superman 🚨SPOILER🚨 Discussion (NO TAGS)

I believe I saw Helen Slater in the theaters but I honestly dont remember the film at all!
I definitely didn’t as that was released the year before I was born, and if there was a re-release it never hit my radar. I’ve seen it at home once. Honestly expected worse lol.

I thought the leaks worked out pretty well. The interview with Lois was iconic. No soft balls. Super sh$&@t. :censor: :woozy:  :-) :astonish: Pissed Superman off. Really funny moment. Clark was so cocky going into that interview. Social media is tough man. Even for Big Blue. I wonder how much of the interview did they cut out. I hope the full interview can be released one day.

Surprisingly enough, Peacemaker's cameo got one of the biggest reaction during the screening I was at. Even bigger "woahs" than Supergirl at the end.

Bradley Cooper would not be my first choice to play Jor-El. And yet, it felt like perfect casting. Sure, it was a small role with barely any acting. But visually, he looked like Kal-El's father.

"You know that one specifically irritates me!!" and "Where's the button?" had me rolling.

This got a huge reaction in my screening too. I think I'm the biggest Peacemaker hater there is. Enjoyed him in TSS a lot but thought him getting killed off should've stuck because it was better narratively speaking. I liked his show overall but yeah I'm so over the dude that I rolled my eyes hard at his cameo. If we were to get a DCEU cameo I would've rather seen Waller, Rick Flagg resurrected, Margot Harley, or hell Blue Beetle.

Waller should've been in the meeting room vs Flag sr.

The contrast between her and Lex would've been nice

Between the numerous scenes of people swearing for no reason other than to be edgy and cool

Clark sitting down, talking about something serious with Lois and then both going off on this tangent about punk rock out of nowhere(why?)

The first scene with ma and pa kent when talking on the phone to clark, where ma sounded like she genuinely had a disability and terribly overacted

Jimmy the pimp, which as hard as you can try to explain it to me, just doesn't make any honest to God sense and holds no place in a story like this

These horrible cut/edits that jump from one topic to something completely different with no real proper transition

I just can't grasp this film and what it was trying to do. That initial teaser felt epic and mythic and so true to Superman. It felt emotional. This film just feels like it was made for 3 year olds with tic tok brain.

No I'm not a Snyder fan. Hated that crap, but thus was just to......off, is the best way I can put it. It's honestly left me so confused.

Can anyone help me to understand this?

  1. The cussing was one of my favorite parts. It wasn't edgy or cool or for no reason. It's how plenty of adults speak. We use curse words in conversations.
  2. I didnt feel like the talk was out of nowhere but again...is something that we do in everyday life.
  3. Personal opinion so no real feedback. (though this iteration are my least fave)
  4. Was he a pimp? Even though I dont see Jimmy that way, it was more of a funny thing of the "nerd" being a ladies man vs the tall hunky nerdy Clark.
  5. Id probably have to watch it again but I didnt feel like it had that horrible of cuts/edits.
I feel the film had a lot of heart to it.

I didn't think the swearing was trying to be edgy or cool...most of it just felt like honest reaction. If I saw Mr. Terrific go off like that I would have said the same thing Lois did. (probably louder and with an F word throw in) Guy using harsh language and middle fingers is 100% on point. Plus it makes Superman look even more wholesome when he says stuff like "What the hey" cause he is too nerdy to say "Hell".

Clark and Lois going on off tangents mid interview is how conversations with my gf and I go as well especially when it is getting heated as that one was. As you get more frustrated you look for something to jump off on so you can stop their train of thought or where the conversation is going and it just leads down a rabbithole some other way. Heck the "punk rock" convo is very similar to one she and I had in a fight once almost to a T. We both had a great laugh at that.

I dont get why you think Jimmy having a social life doesn't fit so I cannot help you there. If you dont like the idea of Jimmy attracting women because he is usually a dork I can understand that but then the dorkiest people I know had the least amount of problems getting women (and arent tv/movie stars) so it rang true for me.

I dont know what you mean by the topic changes and jump cuts and edits. I guess I didn't notice it but will watch for it today. Not criticizing you just didn't notice. I dont have tik tock brain (never even used it) and it appealed to me so I dunno.

Please take none of this as criticism of your questions or takes...even if I disagree your opinions and takes are valid and I am just trying to help :)

For anyone that's already seen the film, could you provide some context on what's going on with the scene shown below?

It’s a background battle we never properly see. This movie goes hard on the notion that this kind of stuff is like a daily occurrence in the DCU, and this one’s on the mundane side. There’s a DOJ warrant out for Superman’s arrest at this moment, Lois asks him about that thing out there and he’s just like “it’s just an interdimensional imp, they’ve got handled.” And you can see the Justice Gang handling it in the background. That’s about it.

It was kinda jarring to be honest. The other heroes were taken care of it, and superman wasn't a bit concerned about it. They called it an interdimensional imp.
I guess superman had faith that they could handle it.

On another note:

I meant to ask this the other day...but was that a White Martian that was piloting Lex's little boat in the pocket universe? I mean it really looked like one and Lex did call Superman a "Martian" in that scene.

I’m don’t think so. Gunn talked about that in another interview. “Mr. Handsome” is a creature Lex made in a lab…probably while trying to get Ultraman right.

Like everyone said - Interdimensional Imp that the JG is taking care of. Clark was already at the scene and knew he wasnt needed.

This scene got A LOT of laughs

That's surprising to hear since I always got the impression that the scene was going to be an emotional one just by going off the trailers.

It is both. Emotional and funny. Gunn likes to do that.

Yeah it is surprisingly emotional considering. And yeah lots of laughs!

I figured it wasn't a White Martian but it looked like one ;)

BTW at some point The Injustice Gang and Crime Syndicate are coming right? I mean come on between Guy calling the JLA The Justice Gang and Ultraman going through the Black Hole they have to right?

One of the best scenes in the film. Not sure I would believe that's Clark's apartment though. On a reporter's salary. Perry must be paying the big bucks for those Superman interviews Kent is able to get :o

Honestly I thought at first based on the set pic that it would be Lois’ apartment since she’d surely be paid more, but now seeing it in the film, it actually looks pretty tiny and sparse, especially compared Lois’s, so I think those tall windows might just be deceiving.
