The Phantom Zone: Superman 🚨SPOILER🚨 Discussion (NO TAGS)

One of the best scenes in the film. Not sure I would believe that's Clark's apartment though. On a reporter's salary. Perry must be paying the big bucks for those Superman interviews Kent is able to get :o
I kind of thought the same thing!

Honestly I thought at first based on the set pic that it would be Lois’ apartment since she’d surely be paid more, but now seeing it in the film, it actually looks pretty tiny and sparse, especially compared Lois’s, so I think those tall windows might just be deceiving.
But with that view in a big city? Still probably too much for poor Clark. I actually kind of liked how it end up being Clark's and was extremely sparse. Kind of implying that he probably doesn't tend to spend a lot of time in the central living area when he's not being Superman. It's a nice contrast to Lois' place being nice and lived in.

  1. The cussing was one of my favorite parts. It wasn't edgy or cool or for no reason. It's how plenty of adults speak. We use curse words in conversations.
  2. I didnt feel like the talk was out of nowhere but again...is something that we do in everyday life.
  3. Personal opinion so no real feedback. (though this iteration are my least fave)
  4. Was he a pimp? Even though I dont see Jimmy that way, it was more of a funny thing of the "nerd" being a ladies man vs the tall hunky nerdy Clark.
  5. Id probably have to watch it again but I didnt feel like it had that horrible of cuts/edits.
I feel the film had a lot of heart to it.
I have to completely disagree about the cussing and Gunn's crass humour. That may be how many adults speak, but this shouldn't just be a movie for adults. A light-hearted, campy Superman movie like this should be more accessible to children. I'm annoyed by that stuff because it means it is going to be a while before I can show my daughter the movie, which is sad because she loves Superman.

The cursing seemed really mild to me. Like, nothing worse than "s**t" was said and I think it was only said maybe two, three times? Idk, I'd probably show it to any kids 6 or older as they've definitely heard that word plenty by then, but I'm also not a parent, so idk. 🤷‍♀️

EDIT: The one part I'd consider a "kid deterrent" is the Russian Roulette scene. That was probably a little much for some youngsters.

Not so much the cursing alone (it was quite mild) but combined with the crass humour and certain misogynistic elements and stuff. It adds up and really gives the movie a flavour that pushes towards the upper end of PG-13.

I don't know about you but I don't want to be explaining to a 6-year old what a harem is! :funny:

EDIT: Yeah, the Russian Roulette would definitely be an issue for younger children. It was very evil and very Lex, but it did come off a little mean-spirited to me as well.

That's when you take her for a bathroom break, DK! :hehe:

No but I get you, it does add up. I just think about some of the stuff from the 80's and 90's I grew up on (and a lot of it just straight-up went over my head) and it seems fairly tame by comparison, but all kids and parents are different!

Plus didn't Supergirl call Superman a ***** or something at the end?. It's just annoying hearing stuff like this from people you're supposed to aspire to be. Comes off cheap. Plus Superman commands no respect in that instance either. Makes him look weak in his virtues

Fair warning, Kara curses all the time in the Woman of Tomorrow comic her movie is adapting. Her behavior here fits that version of her character to a "T" and in my opinion, it's by far the best version of Kara we've ever gotten. That story is not meant to be particularly kid-friendly. Very PG-13.

I dunno, it seemed a lot more noticeable than stuff like that I remember in four-quadrant movies from the 80s/90s like Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, or Jurassic Park.

I think it is because of the way Gunn handles it. He kinda puts an exclamation mark on that stuff because of his juvenile sense of humour/tone. Whereas when Malcolm curses at the first appearance of the dinos in Jurassic Park, it's kinda under his breath and you barely notice it.

Kara says "Later, [b-word]!" at the end, but I could've sworn Lois or someone else drops an A-hole or A-wipe somewhere around the halfway point of the movie.

Eh, I didn’t have a problem with the swearing. The misogynistic elements felt very reflective of society at the moment.

Brain dump of other cool details that I enjoyed:

- One small moment that I loved & wish we had a few extra seconds with: Lois telling Jimmy what to write for the article as she’s piloting.

- Kryptonite resulting in allergy like symptoms in Superman (puffy face, difficulty breathing, etc).

The JSA mural in the Hall of Iustice was the coolest catch! JSA confirmed in the DCU! I saw wildcat

Is anyone else talking about this, haven’t been following closely

the mural in the Hall of Justice was JSA themed which leads me to believe the hall was the JSA’s first.

The murals were really cool, I live in Cincinnati so I’m very familiar with the regular mosaic murals in the building. They changed it for the movie, and all I could see was Wildcat. But there were more heroes for sure.

Im not seeing anyone talking about this on the internet but I didn’t look hard

It's pg-13, that is just as accessible to kids as mcu is. Kids hear cursing everyday. I don't think any superman movie should ever be Rated G or PG. Comics are spicier than that

I lol'd at how many times the name justice gang was used followed by a but that's not our permanent name.

Side note. Back in 96 I took my then 2 year old daughter to a dept store with me to find a nice shirt for my grandmother's funeral.
I couldn't find my size, right color etc, so I got frustrated and muttered shet under my breath..
For the next 5 mins all I heard from my daughter was shet shet shet shet.........
Talk about getting some dirty looks from other shoppers .
I laughed and it really helped me in that sad moment.

I jumped out of my seat lol

I don’t think that’s true; if I recall correctly, all the renovations were covering up ticket counters and train platform signs. I think the JG are the first tenants

I couldn’t hear a word during the Peacemaker cameo because my theater lost its mind during that scene (in a good way). Anyone remember the gist of his interview snippet?
