The Piracy Threat...?

Why not just go to the band's website and listen to the samplers?

Not all bands have samples on their websites, and some only have their hit songs. They are trying to sell themselves, so It's not an accurate example of their band.

Yes, I like them and have them too. And I would buy them if I lost them. But I'm not going to pay for a $18 for a CD if I don't like it. And I won't know if I like it unless I download it or get a copy from a friend. It's not about being owed anything. I don't know where people are getting that from. They're just making it up in their heads, like Wilhelm.

No it's just a number of posters in this thread in the past kind of had that attitude. That if someone can't afford something they still "deserve" it because others have it, and that wouldn't be fair.:whatever:

That and the ever increasing number of people who are constantly trying to download music, books, games and movies for free, a good number seem to have that ideology. That they don't want to pay for it, so they'll just steal it instead because they just "have" to have it.

How many of you people have taken a CD that you've purchased and ripped it to your iPod? That's illegal too folks. How does it feel to be bucked off of the high horse?

How is that illegal when it's still "you" that has it?? If in fact your just talking about using it on your personal iPod say if you go to the gym or are out walking/jogging or something of that nature were you don't have a home or car stereo available.

Now ripping it to your iPod and then transferring it to someone else's would be illegal.

That would make sense since I haven't bothered to read the FBI warnings in probably over 10 years.:woot:

When they updated it, it was to include the making money off it factor right apart from just non profit distribution? As in, it stands alone with the distribution part. So it would say something like "illegal for distribution use as well as profit"(badly worded, I know:oldrazz: )

It basically says making any unauthorized copies, whether or not for monetary gain, is violating copyright infringment regulations

I don't own an Ipod....or an MP3 player....

It's fair because it's not too expensive and it's what new CDs go for, so older one should also. I'm not paying $10 for a crappy CD, and the way I avoid that is to find out if I like it or not.

but thats extremely subjective.....its your opinion of what is expensive and what isn't. 10 dollars, to me, is not a lot of money at all

I can't believe that not one of you anti-downloaders have never burned/taped a copy of an album for a friend or had a friend do it for you.

You asked me my opinion on what is a fair price for a cd.

I guess you could afford to pay for a regular length cd for $30 and be content.

Same. Hell, I'm going to see the film I Am Legend on the Imax instead of a cheaper regular screen. Paying close to 4$-5$ more simply because before it there is going to be a sneak peak at The Dark Knight. Now some may say that's stupid and or insane, but 4$-5$ isn't a lot to me. So I don't mind paying that.

Nope....the one burned copy of a DVD I own is something my ex left in my 360 when we broke up.....every other DVD or game I own is bought, either new or pre-viewed, and paid for.

How do you anti-downloaders feel about Sony putting an anti-piracy software in their CDs without letting people know? They tried to fight illegal coping with illegal software.

Most CD's I see in the stores where I live range from 8 to 30 dollars...but usually the 25-30 dollar range ones are double disc or a special edition. New releases are usually between 15 and 19 dollars, depending on where you shop. I paid 28 dollars for The Police double disc as a gift for my mom....thats the most I've paid for music in a bit.

I've always thought a fair price to be whatever the market can sustain.....

...and I can't speak for anyone else but there are bands I'd pay 30$ for.....and there are many more bands I wouldn't...doesn't give me the right to steal em...

I have had a friend do it for me, and I handed the CD back to her and went and bought the CD, I enjoy it every Christmas.....:yay:

When we edit anything as far as our classroom usage we get the permission of the production company before doing it. I have never been turned down, BUT we bought the DVD or it was sent to us from the production company to be used in our classes. Its very simple to do, and it keeps it legal. Its a simple phone call, and letter put on file.

both Sony and Microsoft have the same software in their game discs.....If Sony is producing the discs, don't they have the right to protect the content they are distributing.....?

Well, you should throw out that DVD. It's illegal to be in possession of illegal material.

Besides, I'm talking about CDs not DVD. Two different things.

Not really...all the content falls under the same laws and regulations. I can't comment too much on the CD side of things, I'm not into music all that much, I own like 10 cd's if that....well the DVD doesnt have the directors commentary, and ive seen the movie on sale in Blockbuster for like 10 bucks pre-viewed, so I might replace it.....

But they don't have the right to secretly install software into your computer.
