The Real Deal Oscar Predictions - Part 3

I haven't seen the movie but just those clips were enough to show he turned in quite a performance.

and Thread Manager strikes again...

Come to think of it did anyone see Leo DiCaprio or any of the Inception cast for that matter?

They were all M.I.A...

As happy as I was for Wally, it's kinda painful to think Deakins still has failed to get a gong. I was really expecting Deakins to get this one and Wally to get his for whatever film he's next nominated (probably TDKR).

I mentioned this in another post, but I think Deakins is a victim of being so prolific. 2007 was a perfect example with Jesse James and No Country both in the running. He got a split vote and it cost him the award. Both of them had amazing cinematography, as did winner There Will Be Blood. You had people voting for Jesse James because it was probably the best work of his career, and then you had people voting for No Country because it looked really good in its own right and also because it was their favorite movie of the year (Best Picture winner, after all). With the split vote for Deakins' two movies, TWBB ended up with the stronger overall support.

It was surprising not seeing Leonardo DiCaprio there. I'm so used to that.

Yeah he's become somewhat of a staple seeing him at the Oscars with his radiant tan. Strange that not a single other actor from that movie was there or maybe the camera never did a close up on them...

Weird.

Is there any way for us non-U.S folk to watch the Oscar ceremony online? I'd rather watch it on my computer than sit through the whole thing on TV.

So I'm watching The Social Network right now, and something confuses me.

When they find out that Facebook is expanding to Stanford, Cameron asks "Why Standford?", to which Div says "Why do you think?"

I feel like an idiot. What's the reason?

what i really think was sad, is not one word of support for worker's rights from a group with one of the most successful unions in america. lack of solidarity with ordinary working and film going americans is shocking..

^The reception for Inside Job winning worried me to.

They started playing the music as soon as he said "Not a single banker (multinational gamblers) responsible for the economic collapse (a staged economic ploy to play with stocks and dividends) has gone to jail."

Gee I wonder why. Oh wait is that a "sponsored by JP Morgan" ad I see before we go to commercials. Oh I get it...

I try not to be a spelling Nazi too often, but it's Stanford. The reason implied in the movie is to talk to Sean Parker, but in real life that wasn't the reason. I would think the real reason was because Stanford is one of the most prestigious schools in the country, just like Harvard. And unlike Harvard or any of the other elite East Coast schools, it would give them a presence in the Western U.S.

I figured it was because Stanford is in Palo Alto and that is the center hub for tech companies and it would get them noticed there and try to get financing from the big firms down there. But I may be wrong. It's just what I took out of it. It's in the heart of tech central.

Well I think Inception got robbed for Best Score, but I am happy with the awards it did win. I'm also really glad that The Social Network did NOT win Best Picture.

But wasn't the Stanford thing suggested by Eduardo, who incidentally was NOT interested in talking to the big money venture capitalists in the Silicon Valley? He was in New York trying to get advertising deals the old fashioned way and even scoffed at the notion that Sean Parker could get them in the front door with some big time financiers in Silicon Valley.

And I got the impression from the get-go that Eduardo didn't want to deal with Sean Parker.

based on the nominees, I don't think anyone got "robbed" but if we're talking about the films that didn't get nominated, well that's a different story.

Christian Bale and Jaiver bardem in a movie together? Is this the same movie they were attached too before about the drug lord Pablo Escobar?

I still figured it was because of the fact that it may get recognition down there. HE was trying to get stuff in New York, but I think he scoffed at Parker just because he did not like him. I think if he had opportunities to get into Silicon Valley he would take it. It was my interpretation of that, because it is in the heart of the tech world. And to me I just saw it that way.

i had this paragraph about how TSN wins best score by using the same things I use to create music when Zimmer and the likes of Daft Punk get overlooked... but the other page closed and my house has is full of arguing maniacs so I'll just say bad choice...
