The Real Deal Oscar Predictions - Part 2

Fincher losing was shameful

Inception winning for best Sound Mixing was sad as well. A slap in the face to any movie with even half decent sound mixing.

I hadn't really seen many of the films and performances that were up for awards this year, and I doubt nay of them would have topped Inception or Toy Story 3 for me.

Glad Portman and Bale won, both their performances and speeches were great. Melissa Leo was acting all the way with her reactions and speech. Sandra Bullock brought things back down to Earth.

I didn't see what Franco and Hathaway did for the opener but Franco looked bored for the most part throughout the evening.

looks like kirk lazarus was right. you never go full ******, then you have a chance to win an oscar...

I hate Bill Maher... with a passion. I don't necessarily disagree with the stuff he says, he just says it in such a condescending and cruel manner.

I didn't notice Nolan crying unless I missed it.

Franco had a "whatever" vibe to him.

Well, it was a good year for movies. I'll have to check my predictions as I know I got a lot of the early ones wrong as I predicted a sweep for TKS which wasn't happening. So, I was really hoping that meant I was wrong and TSN would win BP or at least Best Director. But nope, at the end of the day the Academy went with the safe predictable (and forgettable) choice over the truly innovative visionary films again. TSN is regulated to just technical awards and a solitary major win for Aaron Sorkin. Inception stayed in the technical categories and if Portman hadn't won, BS would have been shut out. But I am supremely happy she did win.

Highlights:

1. Natalie Portman winning Best Actress (loved the nod to Luc Besson for Léon and Mike Nichols, also the omission of George Lucas :hehe: )
2. Tribute to Lena Horne
3. Christian Bale winning Best Supporting Actor
4. Inception's surprising win for Best Cinematography
5. Kirk Douglas milking the spotlight, torturing the Best Supporting Actress nominees and hitting on Anne Hathaway.

Low Points:

1. Tom Hooper's highway robbery win of Best Director over David Fincher...and Darren Aronofsky for that matter....ah shucks, I'll include the Coens and David O. Russell here as well (and the not-nominated Christopher Nolan)
2. James and Anne's affable, but ultimately bland and unfunny hosting job.
3. Tom Hooper winning Best Director
4. The King's Speech winning Best Picture
5. Tom Hooper winning Best Director

Anyway....loved seeing films like TSN, BS and Inception getting a lot of recognition this year. But when it came to the big overall awards they mostly got shut out. I liked TKS and think Colin Firth deserved his win. Not much else though. It is one of those feel good movies that wins and is forgotten as time goes by (nice call by President Obama btw). Inception, The Social Network and Black Swan are destined to be cinema classics.

My two cents.

Yep. Hell froze over when that happened.

And did I see Mila Kunis have tattoos in her chest area?
That was just a lacy part of her dress. I had to do a double take the first time I saw it because I thought the same thing initially.

She's defintely got it going on. Makes me that much more excited for First Class.

I am so gonna have to keep an eye on her from now on.

I noticed quite a few people here who are crying foul about TKS winning best picture haven't even seen it.

My final word on TSN, I don't think it "defines a generation" or however people put it, but for me it was in fact the first time that I really saw people that I know, much less my own age reflected in film.

We can always debate if any film is able to "define a generation" but The Social Network does come close. In almost the same way as Fight Club

I give Hathaway props for trying to save that sinking ship. Shame on Franco for leaving her alone 90% of the show, and doing nothing to seem interested the 10% he was actually on.

Yeah....I dont think that generation was full of people with mulitiple personality disorders, who beat themselves up.

i really thought inception will be the big loser but didnt expect the social network to be the big loser. poor fincher. he almost had the oscar in his pocket..

Fully agreed.

I had a funny feeling she'd be the one trying to pick up the slack.

Even Fincher disagrees with you all....

I didn’t really agree with the critics’ praise. It interested me that Social Network was about friendships that dissolved through this thing that promised friendships, but I didn’t think we were ripping the lid off anything. The movie is true to a time and a kind of person, but I was never trying to turn a mirror on a generation."

Yeah he left her hanging most of the time, they should have paired her with Jake Gyllenhaal as they seem to have good chemistry.
